Excellent Text Book For Accounting

I used this book for an on-line class. The general ledger software was so helpful in reinforcing what the book teaches. I liked that many answers were given for the problems so you could see if you were making an error (sometimes the same one over and over!) so that you could figure out your mistake(s) and get to the correct answer. One of the best text books I have used.

I used this book in a class at Pasadena City College and it was quite helpful. I received an A in the course. I recommend that students who use this book look up the definition of the words since it is very helpful on the quizes and tests. To professors -- this book is sometimes ambiguous on some concepts and could do a better job at it, but overall it is a good textbook to use.

Commandos

Review Date: 2004-11-30
I read the book Commandos of World War II by Hodding Carter. This book contains several stories about World War II. The book is very interesting. Every story was filled with action and suspense. However, there was one story that was not that interesting. It was the first story and it was about a short war where the American soldiers went to attack the Germans. The American troops were being overcome by the Germans; therefore, the American troops retreated. One of my favorite stories was about an invasion by the Americans of an island. The Americans arrived by boat during three different voyages. When the first boat load of American arrived at the island, they were ambushed by the islanders and virtually all of the American soldiers were killed. The second American boat arrived at the island and found a few American survivors. The American soldiers climbed a mountain without being seen. Once they arrived at the top, the American soldiers set mines in cement buildings. Once the mines were planted, the American soldiers left the mountain and returned to the one American boat at the dock and set mines on the boat. The American soldiers boarded the second boat the sailed away. The islanders thought they had won, but the next day the Americans set off the mines on the mountain and in the boat causing the whole island to blow up. This book is very educational on the subject of the Holocaust and the Nazi leader Hitler and other leaders of the Nazis that are not really well known. I learned how the Nazis entered the Jewish lands and captured the Jews. The book contained maps of the voyages and were very interesting to look at. I recommend this book to all people who are interested in learning about the Holocaust.

During WWII, there was an elite group of soldiers fighting for the allied cause. These men were fearless, relentless, and wouldn't let up until their job was done successfully. These elite fighters went by the name of commando. How much do you really know about what went down behind enemy lines during WWII? The Commandos of Word War II by Hodding Carter is all about who the commandos were and what they did during WWII. It starts off with the forming of the commandos, and goes on to explain ever mission they went through during the war. This is a great, very informative book on an issue that many people don't know much at all about. It is very interesting and held my attention throughout its course.

One thing the author did in this book was use very descriptive vocabulary in important places. An example of a wonderful a use of vivid vocabulary is when the author writes about the conditions on a submarine before an invasion took place. "The tiny interior soon became foul soon after they submerged, and the raiders and the crew had to struggle for each breath. As the oxygen level fell, the two men, trying desperately to put on their rubber suits, suffered hallucinations. As the walls dripped moisture and the stench worsened, the exhausted coppists grew feebler and more irritable." This is the kind of description I like to see in a book.

I like the way the author used man different short stories on different missions that the commandos performed, rather than making each one too long to read and comprehend. The stories were short, but very descriptive and precise. The author wrote about 15 different missions that the commandos performed, and varied each one of them to show the real strength and effect the commandos had on WWII.

One particular aspect of this book that I liked, was the use of different real stories of people, not just an overview of how everything went down. The author actually uses names and quotes soldiers during battle, giving the reader a much more life-like image of what it was like. A specific example of this is when the author is describing a commander by the name of "Mad Jack" Churchill as he takes over German infantry. " In a moment they were back at their posts. Whirling his claymore (Scottish sword) over his head and screaming " Hande Hoch!"(hands up). While the corporal guarded his prisoners, Mad Jack went prowling sentry posts with his sword." This really showed me that the author knew what he was writing about, and did good research before writing.

Overall, The Commandos of Word War II by Hodding Carter is a good book that should be enjoyed by people of all ages and knowledge of WWII. It is a great read for all.

This small wonderful book cover all important aspects of the four disciplines appeared on its cover (Pilates, Yoga, Meditation & Stress Relief). I have had some Yoga classes before so I found this book a very good refreshment for my previous experience. However, its clear explanation and illustration will be equally helpful for the beginner. I also found that the stress management and meditation parts are very helpful.

If you are perfectly happy with your life and feel that everything is under your control, you may not need this book. But if you feel that everyday is filled with stressed, you are always tired (like me!), and your works are somewhat overwhelming, this small book might be a good thing to look at!

GREAT! book I ever read

Review Date: 2000-06-23
The book's clear instructions and color photographs are excellent. However, procedures used are extremely time-consuming and require a lot of hands-on work. Basically, they're industrial techniques adapted for home use. Entirely different from making cold process bar soaps. Even for experienced hot process soap makers, at least 3-4 hours are needed to complete the initial phase. In the recipes, you have to be comfortable with using solvents and thickeners. Neutralizing and sequestering agents too. pH control and preservatives can be significant issues as well. Aside from that, you won't find a better consumer-level book on this interesting subject. GREAT book!

I'm quite confused by the reviewer who indicated that this book is filled with extremely difficult and time-consuming industrial techniques. I think she may be reviewing an entirely different book! On the contrary, the recipes here are easy, accessible, and suitable for beginners of all ages and skill levels. In fact, the instructions for the vast majority of the recipes are along the lines of, "Combine the ingredients in a prepared container and blend well." The most "complicated" of all the recipes merely involves melting ingredients in a double-boiler or microwave. Many other books with do-it-yourself recipes are challenging; this really is not one of them.

As an aromatherapy educator, a natural health and beauty product fanatic, and a make-your-own products junkie, I love this pretty book filled with simple recipes and beautiful treatments. I must have a dozen books on creating natural beauty products at home, but I find myself turning to this one again and again, not only for the variety and simplicity of the recipes but for the gorgeous, pampering results!

The book is organized into groups of recipes for the face (masks, toners, moisturizers), body (cleansers, scrubs), hands & feet (creams, balms, nail conditioners), and hair (shampoos, conditioners, herbal rinses). The "face" section also features a wonderful assortment of fun and easy tooth powders, mouthwashes, and lip butters, too.

A chapter on getting started introduces ingredients, preparation techniques, and gets the reader comfortable with the highly addictive process of creating all-natural alternatives to chemical-laden and outrageously priced commercial lotions and potions. A glossary defines terms, and a list of resources provides ideas for where to purchase the items called for in the recipes, although this should not be a problem. Most items are very easily found at grocery or natural health stores (spices, herbs, essential oils, oats, sweet almond oil, witch hazel, rose water, and the like).

Some of my favorite treats include Almond & Jojoba Lip Butter, Cinnamon & Clove Mouthwash, Sweet Citrus Body Polish, Sandalwood & Lavender Hair Treatment Gel, Lemon & Rosewood Hand Oil, Rose Geranium Bubble Bath, Herbal Bath Sachets, and many, many more.

Your skin, hair, and nails will thank you for getting this book.

Editors Simon Evans, Sarah Carter, and Bill Yeo successfully collaborate to assemble a compendium of truly informative and insightful essays in Cowboys, Ranchers and the Cattle Business: Cross-Border Perspectives On Ranching History. From Terry G. Jordan-Bychkov's "Does the Border Matter?: Cattle Ranching and the 49th Parallel" to Simon M. Evan's Tenderfoot to Rider: Learning 'Cowboying' on the Canadian Ranching Frontier during the 1800s", to Lorain Lounsberry's "Wild West Shows and the Canadian West", the contributors bring their unique perspectives and researches to bear in a series thoroughly accessible, "reader friendly", illuminating, highly recommended perspectives and histories of the ranching business on both sides of the longest, unguarded border in North America from the days of the independent wild frontier down to the present "agribusiness" and global economy environments.

Highly recommended reading for western history buffs.

Cowboys, Ranchers And The Cattle Business will appeal to any student of American ranching and Western history, covering the work of cowboys and ranchers from early to modern times and providing different, cross-border perspectives on ranching history. The focus contrasts Canadian and American ranching history and developments and provides some intriguing facts in the process of comparing the two countries for differences and similarities.

This book is a "must read" for anyone seeking to be used to further God's kingdom. Kyle understands the struggles that Christian leaders face today, and addresses them with personal reflections and most importantly Scriptural references. This is a book that you will continually refer back to after your first read.

An excellent book! This book forces leaders to examine themselves very closely, and look at their motives, leadership styles and techniques. I started reading it on a plane, and tapped my wife's shoulder telling her about something insightful after every page. This book is a must read for any leader who thinks that they have it figured out.

"Last Kiss" by Dominique Adair. At a party Elaine meets Count Alex Romanov, whom she has dreamed of for years but never met before. He believes Elaine is the reincarnation of his lost love. In a short period of time, they fall in love. However Elaine has not much time left on this earth unless Alex can find a way to keep her with him through eternity. "Last Kiss" is a very graphic and sensual erotic paranormal romance that enables the audience to feel the intensity of feelings between Alex and Elaine.

"Night Flight" by Margaret Carter. To stop the steady reduction in their numbers, the vampire council instituted a breeding program using human DNA. Gillian, who is one quarter human, goes away with her friend Paul for the weekend. Paul is shocked when he sees her change. Once he recovers, they engage in a sexual marathon. Afterward Paul wonders if he is in love or is being hypnotized to feel that way. Margaret Carter has written a very erotic vampire novella that makes the species vampire seem veryreal.

"Heart of Midnight" by Kit Tunstall - Blind and unable to have children, her uncle and aunt sells Catriona to a brothel in Lasenbourg. The vampire Quintos rescues Catriona from a sadist on her first night. He takes her to his estate where she discovers he's a psychic vampire who feeds off emotions. She wants him to make her a vampire so she can regain her sight but he refuses, fearing that she'll leave him once she sees his scarred face. HEART OF MIDNIGHT is an erotic vampiric version of Beauty and the Beast

This is a wonderfully selected of stories from Ellora's Cave and I think the title Dark Dreams sets it out beautifully!

LAST KISS by DOMINIQUE ADAIR is a vampire of the times. Alexei has lost his love and continues to try and find her over time, once he does he does not want to let her go. A very romantic tale.

HEART OF MIDNIGHT by KIT TUNSTALL sets her vampire tale back in time and by no means is this duo perfect! And yet, their love for each other is blind to any and all misfortunes.

NIGHT FLIGHT by MARGARET CARTER writes of a vampire who has conflicts with how she is supposed to get on with her own kind and humans as well.

All are written beautifully and the grouping work perfectly together. Definitely a must for any vampire lover :-)

Small and light (great for backpackers) cheap (great for everyone) and best of all, it gives what the title says. A great day-hiking guide for the park, offering some of the lore and background history of the Tetons, information concerning the park's geology, biotic communities, native wildlife and weather conditions. You'll never find a book on the subject that gives you more (or even close to as much) for such a low price. Can't be beat--a must for anyone planning a trip to the Grand Tetons.

Whether you want to see breath-taking scenery, waterfalls, unique geology, interesting history or find some good fishing, this book has it. The twenty hikes are divided into five each of short, half-day, full-day and overnight hikes. Each trail description includes the start and end point, distance, elevation changes, time required and comments.

Although we didn't try any of the overnight excursions, we did try at least one of the other categories. We especially liked the full-day hike (#14) to 7 Mile Hole. The side trip to Washburn Hot Springs is well worth the effort. Overall, we found the descriptions accurate and relatively easy to follow, although natural changes can effect some of the descriptions (for example, fire damage).

The book contains several good resources for inexperienced hikers, including good rules for hiking and essential equipment lists. A chart lists the type of features (waterfalls, geysers, wildflowers, etc) found on each of the hikes. Small sections of the USGS maps are included for many of the hikes, although purchasing a TOPO map is recommended.

The book is physically small so it fits well in a pack. It weathered our hikes well, too. We'll use it again and again.

Experience counts.

The twenty-five years of cumulative ranger experience of the authors really shows. Yellowstone hiking guides by Bill Schneider and Robert Stone contain more hikes (with much briefer descriptions) and guides by Tom Carter and Mark Marschall are fine books rich in description but the Andersons' book of 29 hikes is the "gold standard." It combines accuracy, useful topographic maps, interesting naturalist information, and excellent color photographs at a great price. It even makes a good souvenir to keep after you've hiked.
