This is a lovely book that I would recomend to anyone with small children. The story is a simple one, about a tortoise who
delivers the mail throughout the forest, but the animals begin to get impatient with him and wish to have faster service.
The Tortoise only wants what is best for the animals, so he agrees to let another animal take the job. After several animals
do the job in a sloppy and careless mannor, the animals of the forest ask Tortoise to deliver their mail again. It gives
you a chance to talk to your child about patience, kindness and forgiveness. A fantastic choice for any child!

An excellent book which fills out the, to some, unexciting era of the Navy between the wars. Good breakdown of the Washington
Naval Treaty of 1921, and its subsequent modifications - not to be found elsewhere outside of scholarly doctoral-type theses.
A superior book for those who grew up between 1920 - 1940, but who were too young to be in the Navy during those two decades. The annual Battle Problems are excellently described, particularly to those of us "Navy Juniors" who were aware that our fathers were away, but not why or where. The postcards or letters from "exotic" locations like Panama, Chile, Brazil, Guantanamo Bay, Lahaina, Pearl Harbor etc, along with the Battle Problem discussions, to me filled in a lot of my father's three battleship, one cruiser and three destroyer "cruises".
Accurate history (like why the Battle Fleet was in Hawaii on several occasions) interspersed with "sea stories" of those years, make this book a delight to read. Additionally, as a plugged-in Marine, Col Hammond covers the Caribbean "wars" and the development of amphibious warfare, which was so important in our march across the Pacific in WWII. Extremely readable, detailed in a manner which makes one realize that dusty academic tomes don't contribute much to an understanding of the sacrifices that navy men and their families went through in the 20's and 30's.

great life settlement piece

I know this author very well - he is a CPA with a wealth management firm that has extensive experience in the life settlement
field. The piece ran last year in the premier magazine for accountants and financial professionals, The Journal of Accountancy.
Author Jim Warring consulted with one of the top life settlement providers, Maple Life Financial, to author this piece that
spotlights the many uses of life settlements. For those who are unfamiliar with the financial service discussed in this article,
a life settlement allows a senior citizen to sell a life insurance policy that they no longer need or want and receive a lump
sum cash payment greater than the surrender value. Although life insurance agents have been offering this service and making
a substantial residual income from existing clients for some time, CPAs and other financial planners are now beginning to
take advantage of this valuable option as well. This is definitely the place to start investigating this topic.
HOWEVER...why pay $5.95 for it when you can view the article for free elsewhere? I doubt the file here is a high-quality PDF stripped of advertorials that ran alongside it in the magazine, and if you need something of that high a quality, you will need to order it from ReprintBuyers online anyway. Just do a Google search for the title and enjoy the article!

The second sentence in this book pretty well sums up the entire story of the Bren Gun Carrier: 'Designed for a role that it
never really fulfilled, it was adapted to dozens of others for which it was never entirely suited and was still in service,
in vast numbers, long after it should have been pensioned off.'
In effect it was something like a tracked version of the Jeep. It was armored (sort of, about 1/3 of an inch), and because of the tracks had very good cross country mobility. It was reasonably reliable (in later versions) and cheap. It was made in several factories in the UK as well as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA.
This book is another of Osprey's specialist books describing a single line of vehicles in great detail from its history to cut away drawings, dozens of variations, a magnificant set of photographs. It is probably the last word on Bren Gun Carriers (a name by which they are universally known, that was totally incorrect).

This is a detailed history of the 8 pre-WWII carriers, published by squadron/signal publications. It is a great value, full
of black and white pictures and a detailed narrative of these first American carriers. It contains a few minor typos, but
is quite reliable as a source of information on the carriers that started it all, and the reasons why.

This a great book in terms of pictures and the history of the USS Saratoga. It is about as complete a book on this ship that
you will find. From the moment she was created to the day she was sunk in Bikini Atoll's lagoon by the US weapons tests,
this book covers it all in GREAT detail.

The Values Driven Family is to the home what the Purpose Driven Life is to the church. This is an excellent book for laying
(or firming up) a Christian foundation for families. It covers vision, training, love, and discipline, as well as practical
matters of family life such as budgeting and scheduling. If you are looking for an excellent overview of the Christian home,
look no further--this is it.
I especially liked the section that covers twelve critical character areas. I think this is a great resource for parents who are trying to define what strengths their kids need to develop as well what they need to reinforce in their own lives.
The Carriers do a fantastic job laying a biblical foundation, using an amazing arsenal of Scripture. As a result, one of the things I like the most about it is that it's balanced in all areas. It carries a very strong biblical emphasis without taking extreme positions based on Christian cultural or personal preferences. It's the type of book you can feel excited about giving to a friend without adding disclaimers about the parts that are off-base or offensive.
