Wow, I'm really sorry to see that there were 2 reviews only for this novel, and they were all less than overjoyed. I actually loved this novel. It's a shame that it often appears only people less than satisfied with an item will review it. I myself am guilty of not always reviewing a book or CD I loved.

The book dealt mostly with the life of a fictional character Lenora Demarest. Lenora lost her loving mother at a young age and moved to Puerto Rico with her father. The book followed her journey to adulthood, both in taking over her father's business (grapefruits) to fulfilling her dream of becoming an aviator (one of the first women). There is some romance thrown into the novel as well, but I felt it is the friendships Clara forms both with the affluent (like herself) and her workers that truly shines.

I felt the author did a magnificent job with detail. She not only did a fantastic job letting you know the main characters (and even some of the background characters) but she also did a tremendous job offering you the chance to see what she was seeing with non-vital items such as views of the land below from the plane, jewelry descriptions and the food/meals that were eaten at that time in Puerto Rico.

The author touched upon the current events of the time (1920's - current) from the depression in the US, to Puerto Ricans feeling as if they did not belong, to Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart, aviation and feminism.

I thoroughly enjoyed Miss Carlsons book and look forward to reading The Sunday Tertulia.

I bought this book to take on a trip because of the gorgeous cover picture and intriguing book flap description. I was hoping for something more dynamic and challenging but the story and characters never really come to life. I would recommend this novel to readers who want a sugery dose of sappy fluff.

Wrong in constructions, use of the language, presentation of carachters, details such as the celebration of New Years Eves after Jan. 29 are part of this book that mix the rality of the puertorrican society of the first part of the 20 century with the absurds misconceptions of the writter. If someone wants to have superficial, cosmetics and simple ideas of the socio political situacion of Puerto Rico, this is the book to read.

In contrast to what the title says, this book is not really about navigation. The writer went websurfing for a few days, looking for nice "designer" sites. Then printed the images on nice glossy paper together with a paragraph of meaningless commentary only stating the obvious. It does have nice pics though. If you're looking for some inspiration then it's a nice book which doesn't cost very much. But it doesn't even touch the basic principles of website navigation. Don't expect *any* usefull info on that subject.

The title is wrong.

If you're looking for design inspiration and you don't care one bit about usability, this may just be the book for you -- it's a glossy collection of various web sites that don't use "traditional navigation" schemes. Each glossy picture comes with a 2-3 sentence description of why the authors' included it.

There is absolutely no statistical, or even anecdotal information as to the success of these designs -- success being determined by sales, leads generation, customer satisfaction, etc. The authors *like* the designs and consider them examples of "thinking outside the box".

This is a book about being cool, not a book about effective design -- making it useless to professional designers who are held accountable for the profitability of the web site, not just how it looks.

Excellent choice of featured sites.

I've looked at many books that just print screen shots of "the best web sites", and IMHO this is the only one worth buying. This is because a) it is really good value for money, and b) a really good editing job has been done so that only some real class web sites are included. Just flipping through the pages you come across so many ideas - Great for website designers. And, I find the very short comments are usually pretty insightful, and draw your attention to the most salient points.

The previous reviewer mentioned that it contains no content about navigation. Well of course not. The title of the book is NOT "Website Navigation", it is "Website Graphics: Navigation" and it is part of a series, the others being "Website Graphics: Typography" and "Website Graphics: Color". But anyway I disagree with the reviewer. You can learn a lot about alternative ways of navigating through websites using this book. Instead of a vertical menu down the left hand side, why not use dials or a street map metaphor. Also there are multiple ways of indicating which page/section the user is in, some of them very creative.

Well done to the editors, you have chosen very good sites. I am currently recommending that my institute's library gets the whole set of three.

Don't make the same mistake I did. This is not the same "Ron Carlson" who is best known for his short stories, but another author by the same name. This is a actually a book of "humorous" Christian essays, i.e.nonfiction. Nothing wrong with that, but it ain't what I was expecting.
The other review posted here is obviously written about another book and is posted here in error.

Ron Carlson is a funny guy. At least one would expect him to bea funny guy after reading his ouevre. His most widely anthologizedstory, "Big Foot stole my Wife" is both touching andhysterical. His newest collection, represented here, is equallywell-written and--as the title states--hilarious. Speaking of which,I've heard many people clamor that saying your book is hilarious inthe title is arrogant and presumptious. But if you call pull it off(like Dave Eggers did with "A Heartbraking Book of StaggeringGenius") it only adds to the tome's appeal. Carlson's charactersare mostly everyday people but each with subtle quirks that set themflying into impossible and funny situations. The best part about thecharacters is the wonderful touch Carlson has with dialog. Thesepeople are funny! But it's funny because it's real. People actuallytalk like they do in this book, unlike say, a David Rabe play orD.F. Wallace book. This is a wonderful read. I ... it is madeavailable (when the book-reading members of the country realizethey're overlooking a wonderful piece) definately pick up this book. Ipromise you'll enjoy it!

If baseball star Kirby Puckett were a biblical figure, he would be a cross between David, of David and Goliath and Samson, of Samson and Delilah. Unfortunaely Puck: Baseball's Last Warior doesn't approach the telling of the whole story. It is too much of an abreviation of his life and efforts. It may be that the public will have to wait for Kirby Puckett to publish his own more autobiogrphical life story for us to know what makes the man so generous, likable and thus so tragic to have had to leave baseball playing in his prime. Until such a book is published Puck will have to do for those interested in an abreviated look into the life of Kirby Puckett.

The book is a very basic story of Kirby Puckett that leads much to be desired by the more mature fan. The book while a good read, seems to be written more for kids. As the other reviewer mentioned, a good read but for a better biography we will have to wait for Puckett to come out with his own later in life.

The story of the man before his image was permanently tarnished. Brings you back to his simpler days when people smiled when you mentioned his name.

First, I would to say, as an amateur poem writer, I could have wrote this book a lot better. I am also a spelling bee champ and noticed many spelling errors.

Plain and simple, Ricco could not take me in a street fight.
I have witness many things that have turned me into a fighting machine. I have witnessed a friend die in front of my eyes. I have also witnessed my girlfriend getting raped as 5 guys pinned me down and force me to watch.

I could probably beat up Fedor if I did not run a multimillion dollar tanning business and have to beat the girls off of me with a stick. I mean, where can I find the time to even train.

One time, Kirik came over and we strapped hotdogs to our forehead and rushed at each other when we bent over.

Not as good as I had hoped...

I am a major advocate for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, which is why it so pains me to see Ricco Rodriguez dragging the sport through the mud to make a quick profit on this somewhat "trashy" book. In life we all must contribute to the world and make our mark, but with this tome, Ricco seems to be announcing to the world that the only mark he intends to make is a stain.

As poorly conceived as this book was, there are a few heart-warming moments and revelations. For example, by detailing his relationships with fellow fighters Phil Baroni and Tito Ortiz, Rodriguez may (even inadvertantly) be paving the way for bisexual male fighters to operate freely within the sport, and for that Ricco and this book must be applauded.

I kinda liked this book. It wasn't written for the people who know a lot about finances. There are plenty of books around that are for them. What this book IS is 100 suggestions about how to start thinking about money in non-stressful ways. Just like all the other titles in this series.
I didn't need to read the book but I picked it up because no matter where a person is in their financial life there is a lot of information they can use. Information that they might not have remembered about because they need to start over but have no idea how to begin. Any one of these tips would be useful for either a beginner who is starting to accumulate "real" money or a person just trying to get out of debt. People don't think straight when they worry about things as important as money and that's what this book helps them deal with.

I'm a huge fan of Richard Carlson's original "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" book that was originally published in 1997, so I was excited to see that he also wrote a book about finances. After about five minutes of reading it, however, I found it to be the most utterly worthless financial advice book imaginable. It ought to be called, "Ridiculously Simple and Obvious Advice for Utter Morons Who Don't Know the First Thing About Money." Anyone who can tell the difference between a penny and a quarter surely knows everything in this book already. I can't believe that Carlson actually put his name on this one. Trust me, the best way to start managing your finances wisely is to avoid spending any money on this book.

This book is pathetic! Its little paragraphs about financial and economic subjects are inane. And, many times the given information is flat wrong. It's clear the "author" didn't bother to put any sweat into his work. If you want useful, accurate information on finance, I suggest you look elsewhere.

We borrowed this book from our local library since our 3 year old Son liked one of Nancy Carlson's other books. This was the worst children's book I've ever read and was totally inappropriate for children. Words such as dope, dummy, dumb, stupid, jerk, dumb (2), dumb (3) were used. Maybe Ms. Carlson was trying to make a point but these are not words I want my Son learning. Like a previous reviewer, I too will no longer read books by Nancy Carlson.

Shame on this author. Children learn name calling fast enough without books encouraging it. Unless you want your preschooler calling you a "jerk" or "dummy", you'd do best to avoid this book. Luckily we got our copy from the library. We'll be avoiding this author from now on.

What a wonderful tool to use when trying to teach children that words can be hurtful and inappropriate! As a Children's Librarian, I know I can count on Nancy Carlson to supply us with good materials to help teach our kids how to be good, full people. Sometimes it may require a little work and discussion on our part, but children's books are meant to be shared with the kids.

Investing requires research and WORK. Free Lunch on Wall Street is not a free lunch. It still requires WORK on your part. You get out of your investments exactly what you put into them. You can read Free Lunch on Wall Street, but I don't think it's worth $14.95. Sure, you may get a free lunch at the shareholders meeting, but is it worth the other expenses just to get there
