I am loving this new book by Jill Hassler-Scoop, et al.! It has thoroughly explained integration and the psychological aspects of riding. It has helped me organize my rides better and keep my training calm and effective. It is very easy to read and understand and is the type of book you can refer back to again and again to "refresh" your riding attitudes. I am buying it for my riding buddies for Christmas!

A FEAST FOR THE QUILTER'S EYES!
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-11
This book was at the top of my list for a long time and now I know why. I first purchased the author's follow-up book "4-Block Quilts, cont." and was so impressed that I made the search for "Roots, Feathers & Blooms". This book is a feast for the 4-block antique quilt lover's eyes!

The author offers 6 patterns for quilters to use to reproduce antique quilts, but the best is the potpourri of colored pictures of the antique quilts, and reproduced quilts. Two of the loveliest quilts I have ever seen are pictured and made by the author; her unusual take on the "Princess Feather" design, and the quilt entitled "Amy's Wedding Quilt", which includes charming urns, flowers, vines and berries.

The author has spent an enormous amount of time on research for 4-block designs and includes information about the makers (States)which produced them.

This may not be a book for beginning quilters insofar as there are not included instructions for how to quilt, applique, etc. Nevertheless, those things can be found in books anywhere. All quilters, however, can be inspired by the historical research and beautiful picture documentation of 4-block quilts. A must for the quilter's library.

Satch Carlson was born in a small California town that even now refuses to admit it. He spent his early years in Nevada, where at the age of five he got his first lesson of serving others when he lost a finger trying to keep the main door of the municipal swimming pool from slamming shut and startling people. His formative years were spent in Reno (where he learned the rules of blackjack and social decorum). In 1967 he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, to pursue the murder of trout and salmon and other living things, and found himself graduating from Alaska Methodist University two years later. He promptly went to work for the Anchorage Daily News. He counts as his highest achievement the winning of the 1988 International Imitation Hemingway Contest, prompting one critic to remark, "Here is Carlson doing what he does best: imitating a writer."

This is undoubtedly the finest collection of work on religion and international politics. I could not put it down. The writing was excellent, but what really MADE the book a classic was the editing. Carlson and Owens have done an unbelievable job. The collection and sequencing of the articles allowed the book to be a purely seemless read, even while offering different viewpoints and perspectives. Plus, all 290 pages were perfect, with no smudges, typos, or printing errors.

Five stars. Joe Bob sez check it out.

I knew nothing about Schizophrenia before I read this book. I didn't
even know it existed. Through these three stories I have learned that they
are just normal people with a mental disease who are trying to get better.
The stories did not only teach me something but entertained me too I really
like the characters in these stories. I felt like they could be friends of
mine.

These stories were excellent and the illustrations as always were great!
My sister liked this book too. She kept trying to steal it from me! I
always look forward to reading new books by Mr. Carlson and Kevin. I think
this book is a must have for kids of ALL ages. I enjoyed reading it very
much. You will too!

Great Self Help Critique and Summary
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-28
This book is a brief and critial review and manual of the best practices of self help, success, abundance, prosperity, and metaphysics. A refresher on the greatest techniques of obtaining a richer life.

The contents reveal some similar but enhanced teachings of: Wallace Wattles, Napoleon Hill, Charles Haanel, Richard Carlson, James Allen and even Randolph Price.

Understanding the methodology of manifestation, creation, spiritual abundance and prosperity, appears to be the main theme of this manuscript.

It is an intermediate or fundamental review, but it is probably not as inspiring for the advanced mystic, new thought believer, mind science practitioner or other.

If you liked Think and Grow Rich, The Abundance Book, Dont worry, make money, Creating Money, The Master Key System, or Thomas Trowards Edinburgh lectures, then you will enjoy this concise manual on the manifestation of a better life.

All the best, Sherwood

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book - both for its artwork and for the descriptive text and content. The fact that it is in black and white does not detract in any way, shape or form from the enjoyment of browsing through its pages. It has become one of my favorite books that I recommend to others with a diversity of interests - mental states, the architecture and design of asylums and sanitariums, the questionable diagnoses and treatments of mental illness through the ages, the abuse and exploitation of vulnerability, authentic facial expressions of great terror, pain and suffering, and the misguided views and prejudice of various historical periods. It even makes a fine coffee table book for those of us that are a little out of the ordinary.

I have been a devoted Selected Shorts fan for about 12 years and I thought this collection was really first-class. I listened to it at night in the car when I was on the road and enjoyed it thoroughly, especially the stories "Farrell's Caddy" and "Chivalry." The other stories were very good, too. I would heartily recommned this collection to anyone who enjoys a well told tale. John La Boone, St. Marys, Georgia
