This book is great for anyone who is tired of trying to figuire out how to lose weight and get healthy. The cleanses are easy and workable for the very busiest person. I haven't finished the book yet but I went read forward to the weightloss fast and have started my husband on the cholestoral fast. I would recommend it to anyone wanting help at getting a healthier life.

Have the first addition - very well used.

This book is the most comprehensive yet easy to follow program on the subject of inner cleansing. I like that he's not preaching or self serving, but very clear and to the point about cleaning out the "toxic sludge," that we all have, as result of eating bad food. And, it doesn't require any fancy or obscure potions or pills -- just good, wholesome foods like fresh fruit/vegetable juices. Its in this book that I learn about the healing power of fresh (raw) garlic and the importance of including it into your daily cleasing. A must have for all.

If you follow the instructions in this booklet you have a very excellent chance of cleansing your body and becoming pain free. It worked for me. But you have to be willing to follow through. It leads you to a healthy way of eating and juicing and better health....plus weight loss. It is fabulous. I have bought 5 to give away as Christmas gifts.

A practical book indeed

Carlson Wade is a medical nutrition reporter who has completed 26 books on natural healing. In his book, Inner Cleansing, you will learn about the why and how of cleaning out the "sludge" that accumulates in our bodies. How does it get there? We live in a toxic world. Between air pollution, additives to our water supply, additives to our foods, dyes, colorings, preparation methods, stress, etc. the modern person has no choice but to ingest, breathe or come into contact with various toxins and other problematic items. These in turn cause premature aging, aches and pains, fatigue, heart problems, high blood pressure and a variety of other symptoms.
The book offers techniques to cleanse yourself of these toxins. The techniques are simple and the things you need are readily available. Unlike other programs for detoxification, this one does not require months to complete. After only a couple of days you should feel the difference. If you are having a nagging problem or just not feeling like yourself these days, this book may have the answers for you. If it doesn't work for you then you have lost nothing, if it does work then you have regained a better life. I will say that I often feel better after a regular cleansing program and am much more active than most of my friends my age.

I have gone to therapy, but it always seems to take forever, they always want to schedule you "next week." And you know people always want to give advice. Sometimes we don't always like to hear the same thing over and over again. It is nice to get helpful advice in this book from an expert who is detached to our lives. This advice is helpful, to the point.

The book is a nice size too. You can carry it in your purse or with you. It also is a great conversation piece as the title is kind of funny and the principles are universal to so many people.

Really a great book!

I had gone through my share of traditional therapy and this book offered me a totally new perspective. No more dwelling on the past, lets move on and deside for ourselves how we are going to feel every day, and it's ok not to be perfect. The book offered a doorway into the fact that I and only I can decide how I will look at my life and deal with whatever issues will come up. I hugely recommend it!

I just finished reading this book, Shortcut Through Therapy, twice. I want to study it until I really "get it". When I read a book I underline what speaks to me and this book has almost every page highlighted! Richard Carlson had a way of putting "truths" into everyday language that the average person can understand. I do feel the book could have spun a more positive note regarding therapists or else not mentioned them at all. I plan on buying 10 copies to pass around to friends and family. Last year I passed around copies of, The Big Book of Small Stuff, also by Richard Carlson, and it was well appreciated by most of the recipients.

Thank You Richard Carlson, Wherever You Are...

This is an amazing book that has helped me through many a troubled time. Occasionally, I re-read it, in full, usually once a year and consider the book to contain some of the most sound advice I've come across in learning to deal with everyday stress/problems, particularly through recognize thoughts as being no more than JUST thoughts which can be addressed then dismissed. I was saddened to hear of Carlson's passing in December and am grateful for the help he provided many.

This book was a life-saver for me. The world of nursing home care, patient's rights and insurance is a mystery to most of us, until we find ourselves in the situation where we face those issues, often suddenly and unexpectedly. The Baby Boomer's Guide gives understandable, clear advice and information, and anticipates the problems the patient and family are most likely to encounter. This book has helped me to identify and solve so many problems. The authors are to be commended for providing such a useful resource for all of us.

Excellent, authoritative book.

This book has very serious credentials - see The Commonweath Fund's site. I bought it when my mother was in a nursing home and our right to informed consent and then review of her medical records were being completely ignored by the "professional" staff. It tells you what your rights are so you can attempt to be a more effective advocate (winning against a nursing home is an unrealistic expectation).

I have suggested this book to friends who have parents in nursing homes - in other words, exactly the audience for which it is intended.

This book isn't just for "boomers" - it's for everyone who is helping a family member or friend who is or may become a nursing home resident. It's in plain language, and full of practical help. The Federal and state governments are doing a poor job enforcing the rules that are supposed to protect nursing home residents - it's up to family members and friends to be aware and assertive. Our non-profit agency (H.E.L.P. of Torrance, CA) assists older adults and families - we wholeheartedly recommend this book.

This is a very well researched book about the history of charter fishing off Hatteras Island. The author combines archive research with annecdotes collected from his repeated trips to the island. The reader also has a feeling of sadness as the author's wife slowly succumbs to MS while he is doing his research.

Well worth the time to read.

HATTERAS BLUES: A STORY FROM THE EDGE OF AMERICA is part biography and part regional history: it uses the experiences of one long-time fisherman on North Carolina's outer banks to reveal the issues of a fading industry and the development of Hatteras Village in the heart of Hurricane Alley. Tom Carlson's involvement with his subject leads him to the heart of a family and a town's struggles and faith in a warm first-person survey which at times reads with the quiet drama of fiction.

Hatteras Blues touches the heart of what it means to love the sea

I have been visiting the North Carolina outer banks since 1970. I did not think anyone had as much love or reverence of this special place as I, but I was wrong. Tom Carlson in Hatteras Blues has established himself as a true devotee of these narrow islands off the Carolina coast. He captures the lure of isolated and wind-worn beaches and ever-changing off shore waters where fishermen (and women) from the smallest North Carolina towns to the largest international cities have searched for prize bill fish, bull drum, cobia and a host of other species for several decades. The reader is absorbed in the story of the Fosters and others who fought the harshness of life on the outer banks to create a thriving charter fishing industry that today is being challenged by corporations and those uncaring of the outerbanks special culture. Carlson is a waterman by birth and a "Banker" by choice. Hatteras Blues is a heartfelt story of great loss, love, spirit, transformation and hope set in one of the most magical places on planet Earth. Rates with Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea for bringing to life the conflicts, the turmoil and the serenity of what it means to be a part of the sea and the coast. Highly recommended.

Most stories in this book are easy read and thrillers. There are some that are extremely difficult to read. I found two such stories, both of which were first place holders. This contest does not only choose goo stories i.e. those that have content and are well-written, but also good those that have prfound use of language. That makes the English in some stories difficult to read. Either way, if you like thrill, this book is for you. If you get easily annoyed with different writing styles all in one book, then it's not for you.

I love the Writers of the Future stories!

I am not a writer, but I love to read. The stories are almost one for one, great stories. They're short, but always a good read and original work! Since L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future is a contest, the stories are picked by big writers: Anne McCaffrey, Orson Scott Card, Brian Herbert, etc, so I am always guarenteed a GREAT read and I find them to get better and better. Volume 23 has been the best so far. I loved last year's one, too.

Keep the Writers of the Future going - it's keeping SF and Fantasy alive! Thanks, S.C.

A great read and an interesting collection of short stories that should interest the science fiction reader. I just finished the book and noticed that Jeff Carlson, one of the authors included in the selection, also wrote another book I just finished, Plague Year. So, the book contains stories by authors on their way to notoriety, and I've heard that past winners have gone on to successful careers in the fantasy and science fiction genres. This book will not disappoint. Highly recommended.

Back in the bad old days, if you wanted to break into writing, you'd send your manuscript to the pulps and they would most likely print them. If you read pulp fiction from the forties, some is quite good and others are quite awful. Where's a guy/gal to go who hasn't yet published, knows he/she has talent and is tired of collecting enough rejection letters to paper their cheap apartment walls??

Writer's of the Future is that chance. I've been reading this collection since the first book and this one is kinda creepy in its storylines but entertaining too. There are 13 stories here; one has to to with time travel reality shows; another to discover why all the statues of the earth are trying to talk; selling your creative genius through neuron extraction. Still, some are better than others.

Articles on writing by L. Ron Hubbard, Kevin J. Anderson and Judith Miller. There's an Illustrators of the Future tucked in here as well.

L. Ron Hubbard wrote a 1977 article that appears here called Art and Communication, which addresses the subject of creativity as a whole. What is art? That's answered here.

Kevin J. Anderson expertly writes in "If I Only Had The Time", tackles the idea of how much work writing a novel really is, and how some people consider how easy it is. It's a major challenge, and he explains why.

Judith Miller challenges us to be artists - or would you rather be an accountant, a salesman or eat peanut butter on toast the rest of your life?

Check it out!

Hubbard article: L. Ron Hubbard: the Writer, the Shaping of Popular Fiction
Kevin J. Anderson novel: The Ashes of Worlds (Saga of Seven Suns)
Judith Miller novel: In the Company of Secrets (Postcards from Pullman Series #1)

Below is a list of the titles and new authors with a synopsis of each story, taken from the Writers of the Future website:

OUR LAST WORDS by Damon Kaswell

This is a complete reference for PalmOS PDAs. The form is a step-by-step walkthrough of each function. Each page is cut in half with text on one side explaining the screenshots on the other side of the page. The chapters go through each function from managing contacts, using the calendar, reading and writing email, to surfing the web and synchronizing with your Mac or Windows box. This is very thorough and up-to-date book for Palm users who like the step-by-step approach that is thick with screenshots.

I work in a customer service organization which provides training and online support for Palm OS devices. In my opinion, this book is the best hands-on learning tool you can buy for Palm OS devices; it is a ready-made course on Palm OS Organizers and how they interact with your computer & wireless networks. The book does a great job making the material helpful for both geeks and newbies. It has a great format: 50% visual and 50% text. It differentiates the Palm OS variants very clearly and it presents lots of numbered step-by-step instructions which can be used to describe procedures to clients on the phone. The O'Reilly series of books are good but do not cover all the newer devices and OS variants (Tungsten, Zire, Treo and older handhelds).

This is an excellent book that will transform the reader from novice to near-power user. The author details the product offerings, basic features, more advanced features, and third party offerings that increase the value of the Palm. With this book as a primer, I knew exactly what I was doing when I first picked up a Palm.

I scanned the Palm For Dummies book before settling on this book. In my opinion, the Dummies book was comparatively confusing and overly brief.

Review Date: 1999-07-19
I have read this book a couple of times as well as listened to his Dynamic Living series of cassettes. Say Yes to Your Potential can be a real life-changer if you apply the principles. Many authors write things that they don't really live in their own lives, but Skip Ross is the person he challenges us all to be. Both of my sons have attended his summer camp for young people several times and it is obvious that what he talks about and teaches in this book can and is being practiced by many. Skip has developed his "Formula for Dynamic Living", and in this book he breaks down each of the parts, explaining how and why it works in each of our lives and how we can get the Principles of Success working for us in our own daily lives. The idea of saying yes to our potential involves living dynamically and having balance in the six main areas of our lives. This book, with it's fascinating and amazing stories and examples, gives the reader an understanding of what they can do to create a life for themselves that is filled with joy and happiness. It also, in a subtle way, helps one to realize the many negative things we do and deal with day in and day out and how we can change the accumulative effect those negatives have on our attitude and outlook on life. This book is not just a book, but a blueprint for how we can improve our own environment, starting from within. I believe that anyone who reads this book will be better in SOME way once they have completed it. Is this book really out of print? I just purchased a copy not too long ago!

Our family really loves this story about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The young Jewish boy, Benjamin tells the story of Holy Week from his perspective. As he encounters Jesus through the week, he collects items for his treasure box that his grandfather, a shepard present in Bethlehem at the time of Jesus' birth, had given him. His grandfather had included "hay" from the manger of baby Jesus. The very popular "Resurrection Eggs" can be used with the book, but are not required. This is a must for your Resurrection Day library!

This book is a tradition for our family -- our kids eagerly anticipate getting it out of the "Easter" box every spring. The illustrations are very beautiful yet very kid-friendly -- I *loved* the fact that they show children who (despite their era-appropriate clothing) look like any child you'll see today riding down the street on a skateboard. Also, Jesus has dark hair -- the illustrator didn't turn our thoroughly Jewish Lord into a blond haired, blue eyed European as so many artists do. Kudos for that! I heard a mother tell of reading this book to her children for Easter. My own son is now an adult ( no children yet) but I felt so strongly about the message of the book that I am buying it for my husband's grandchildren.

If you've got too many demands and not enough time, this book will help you conquor the chaos - it's the next best thing to having Mary Poppins move in. The authors give real advice on making the most of your time. Any of their suggestions can be incorporated into your life, no matter what your income level might be.

These authors have got it right. For over 30 years I lived in a very hectic world trying to balance family, work, hobbies, friends... In a large energy utility I was a mentor and coach to many, and now teach in a business school- and act as a consultant to industry. I continue to be in touch with a great number of folks of all ages. While the advice, and reflections of the working world I have given in the past seemed sound, and were generally consistent with many of the principles outlined in this book, those I coached, and I would be better off if I had the book then... but it is never too late- several of them will be receiving a Christmas gift early... Thank you Kurt et al.

It's a problem almost everyone faces today, how do you balance work, home, pleasure, church, and other obligations so you are not completely overwhelmed? "Beyond Juggling: Rebalancing Your Busy Life" provides a realistic approach to getting your life under control.

The authors provide five alternatives to trying to juggle multiple commitments: Alternating, Outsourcing, Bundling, Techflexing and Simplifying. Each one of these alternatives is examined in detail with a description of what it is and is not, an aptitude test to determine if it is an appropriate option for you, and descriptions of the trade-offs for each option.

The last part of the book contains a self-assessment that helps you determine the strategy that you are currently using, the ones that best fit your personal style, what will work now with your present career and life-stage and what will be needed in your future as your needs and circumstances change.

This is simply the best book on balancing your life obligations that I have read to date. Immediately useful, highly practical, it is a highly recommended read for anyone seeking balance in life.

There are lots of books out there just waiting to organize your life and tell you what to do. Problem is, once you finish reading the book, it's impossible to put everything into practice. I really enjoyed Beyond Juggling because it went past that. It gave real, workable solutions to fit work and personal life. I work at a Fortune 500 company and find it difficult in the early part of my career to take the advice of most books. I can't "get off the treadmill" or work flextime until I've build up some organizational credibility. The great thing about the book was that I found solutions that worked for me. It wasn't preachy by telling me I should, of course, put family first. I know that already. Rather they listed great strategies that have really helped me to help balance everything that's important to me.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves work, and loves their life, but doesn't necessarily want the two to be one and the same!

Beyond Juggling was useful to me, a mother of young children, planning to reenter the workforce. I knew I didn't want the long hours and constant intensity of my previous job, but nor did I want a boring, low-stress, low-expectation job. The authors lay out the pros and cons of five strategies to keep your work and life in balance. I learned that I shouldn't work at home (what the authors call techflexing) since I need--and enjoy--the motivation of interacting with coworkers. On the other hand, my preference to concentrate on one thing at a time makes me good at alternating, a strategy of "intense work periods followed by breaks to recharge." The authors' suggestion that alternaters choose occupations that have natural peaks and valleys, such as tax accounting helped me focus my job search.
In addition to helping readers recognize and use balancing strategies that fit their personalities, Beyond Juggling shows how to incorporate other balancing strategies on a smaller scale. My need for spontaneity makes bundling, "packing multiple purposes into a single event or activity," a poor choice for me generally, but forming an investment club may be the perfect way for me to stay in touch with both my friends and my portfolio once I go back to work.
Since I love to give advice, I relished the appendix, "How Managers Can Use This Book," a whole arsenal of tools to get the best from your employees, not just the most. A wise manager may just give this book to his team members, and prevent burnout before it happens.

Melody Carlson is my favorite author! Her Allison Chronicles and Diary of a Teenage Girl Series are so realistic that you can't put them down! I highly recommend the Allison Chronicles- the only downside is that there are only four novels.

The Allison Chronicles are some of the best books I have ever read! They provide situations that I can learn from and apply to my own life. All 4 books were fabulous, but I am extremely disapointed that there are only 4!

ok but it could have been better

I liked the rest of the Allison Chronicles, and this was okay. It was kind of boring and Ms Carlson needs to put some more action in it. Otherwise it was a really good book. I really think that more people should read the Allison Chronicles and if you're thinking about reading them, do because they are very good.

... I mostly read light fiction, sometimes they are a little deeper in context, after one of those I love to read easy, happy ending books. After the third Allison Chronicle I thought they may all end in suspence, I wish the fourth would have ended diferently, at least take us through the wedding!! I am amazed and saddened that this is the last of the series, and very dissapointed how "Dreams of Promise" ended. Andrew and Allison should have at least had a good night kiss after the dance!!! ....

The Allison Chronicles are amazing! I can't put them down! WHY DOES MELODY CARLSON HAVE TO END THE SERIES???? That's ridiculous! If you are thinking about reading the series...don't, because you will be disappointed when there isn't a true ending.
