Carlson's musing on his travels throughout the United States are full of wisdom about the art of dealing with change in one's life. He offers tips on inexpensive solo auto travel as a retiree, suggestions about photography, and wry insights about the real America off the main roads. Carlson's travels taught him how to "see." I think you'll enjoy this graphic work of Americana.

This is a story about one man's odyssey, following sudden, unexpected and unwanted changes in his life. Art Carlson is a good friend; however, I was not completely prepared for the total honesty, insights and good humor. I like Art more now than I did before I read his book. This book is a must read for any man `of a certain age` who is dealing with new, unfamiliar circumstances, and looking -- not necessarily for solutions -- for a good route to travel through life.

What makes people think that all women who achieved in America and around the world were Suffragists? This book clearly PROVES that this was not (and is not today) the case. Ms Tarbell is REAL American womanhood -- she just went out and did her job and NUTS to the suffragists. Good for her! Splendid book and non PC. Where can you beat it?

"We [are in the author's] debt for presenting Russian working women in a new manner, across the spectrum of everyday life from the painful rituals of coming-of-age to the confrontation they experienced with the limits placed on them by their families, Russian society and the tsarist state.... I hope this book finds the wide readership it deserves. It is a pathbreaker." - Martin A. Miller, Prof. of Russian History, Duke University.
"The publication of this pioneering work on the dispositions and roles of working women in revolutionary Russia is very much to be applauded... [the book] should be read with profit by a broad audience." - William G. Rosenberg, University of Michigan.

Bobroff-Hajal's well-researched study examines industrial workers in the central industrial region of Russia at the time of the 1917 revolutions. She discusses women's roles in food riots, street fighting, and political organizations, posing the issue of why so much activism was ultimately ineffective and why these Russian women were unable to form continuing organizations to better their lives. The explanation is somewhat repetitive: women were socialized through rituals and folklore to be tied to husbands and children rather than to each other, thus inhibiting any tendencies toward a natural interest group. More interesting, however, are the author's descriptions of working-class family and gender patterns, including childhood socialization, adolescence, courtship and wedding ritual, and communal living arrangements, which paradoxically managed to reinforce separation of nuclear families. Bobroff-Hajal uses fascinating folkloric, newspaper, memoir, and oral history sources not available in English to paint a vivid picture of the lives of these Russian women. A valuable addition to collections in Russian and women's history. Upper-division undergraduates and above. - L. Mayo, County College of Morris.

The Book Every Reader of "The Purpose Driven Life" Should Read Next
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-10
I've read dozens of books by wonderful Christian authors and have never found one as complete and practical and powerful. If you're struggling, if you're frustrated in your walk, if you know there's more and you want it, read this book. Dr. Carlson quickly drew me in through a doorway of heartfelt understanding that this was it; this is what drives me and underlies my most basic longings. This is my purpose.

I've read so many wonderful Christian books that started out powerfully but ultimately petered out and left me wanting more. Carlson's book never lets down. I confess; it built so quickly early on, that I was looking for it to weaken in the middle. It never did, it never lets up and uniquely, the last chapter finishes strong. There's a natural three part structure that's beautifully balanced. The first ignites your hope for the promise of Love, the middle helps you grasp it and the last part will give you what you need to experience it. If you read this book, you'll be able to better receive God's love, better able to recreate His love in your life and share the beauty and transforming power of that love with others. You will be a part of Kingdom Come!

Phil Carlson is a husband, father, a family M.D. and a church pastor with an extraordinary, God-given gift for teaching. He sets out a clear, simple subject in each chapter. There's a natural progression to the point of each chapter. Around each point, Carlson easily weaves his personal experiences (equal parts successes and failures) as a son, a father, a doctor and a pastor, together with portions of scripture in a way that illuminates a heartfelt, personal understanding. The effect was like a gentle gardener's spade on the hard ground of my life's experience, gently turning the soil in my heart to receive each seed of truth that I know are already now growing. Fifteen chapters have sown a fertile garden that I hope will produce a bounty in my life and the lives of those I love.

Ultimately, I think that its Jesus gift for teaching and reaching hearts that I felt from Phil. His writing demonstrates his humble willingness to be a conduit for God's grace and love. That's why I'm buying copies for my friends and family and submitting it to my church for our link group studies. The impact of this book will surely be best realized within the context of fellowship, encouragement and accountability. I just finished my first reading of the book and plan to read it regularly and often, it's that good, that important. Thanks you Jesus for this book!

Dr. Carlson shares how much God loves us, and reaches out to bring joy and healing in our lives and relationships. With transparency and vulnerability, the author uses examples from his own life and from the Bible to show how God longs to be a loving Father to each one of us. Compelling and easy to read.

Yuri Rasovsky at his Best

Classic Plays is what audio theater ought to be.

producer/director Yuri Rasovsky proves he is an audio showman and this is a showcase for his great talents in the audio medium. These spoken works function so well in the audio medium with the scholarly manuscripts, astonishing period music and the sumptuous cast.

Such names in the cast of these plays include John Glover (Smallville), Tony and Emmy winner Fritz Weaver, Barry Morse (Space 1999),Oscar Winner F. Murray Abraham. They lends their voices to these classic achievements.

Those who currently say there are mostly DREK in the audio marketplace, needs to have our teenage children be exposed to these pieces of audio history.

Yuri, you did good! And these productions will stand the test of time

The ADD Audio Coach program is a wonderful AD/HD resource. It is an excellent alternative for those with AD/HD who are not quite ready to work with a live AD/HD coach.

The ADD Audio Coach program offers some great tips and strategies for some of the most common AD/HD related problems. Both the CDs and the workbook are broken down into small sections which makes the program very "ADD Friendly".

In addition to being a great resource for people with AD/HD, The ADD Audio Coach program could be a great tool for AD/HD Coaches to use with their clients.

Although written for a children and teen audience, all lovers of poetry will enjoy this friendly introduction to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and is ideal for providing context and historical background to discussions of his poetry. 2007 is the bicentenniel of Longfellow's birth, and celebrations and poetry readings are taking place around the world to celebrate this distinguished American poet. His poetry and phrases have found their way into the American lexicon, and Libby Hughes brings to life Longfellow's interesting childhood in New England, his college years, and subsequent travels around the world that so influenced his poetry.
