Carey Books

Armand Mattelart is a French professor of information and communication theory at the Université de Paris-VIII, Saint-Denis. His book is concisely written at only 123 pages and provides an insightful argument against globalization. Mattelart explains how freedom of speech translates on a global scale to freedom of commerce.

The central problem for Mattelart is that by letting corporations network the world, we are letting them control the marketplace of ideas, as if they have shackled the invisible hand of capitalistic self-governance. This inevitably leads, says Mattelart, to what is essentially nothing more than human commodification, such that the marketplace of ideas is essentially a parroting frenzy of talking heads socioeconomically engineered to spread profitable memes.

I love this cookbook. I used to love the restaurant but it sold and is not as good anymore. Sure glad I have the book.

A stubborn problem in trying to understand the vocabulary of the Greek New Testament is the simple fact that over three out of ten of the words (1910 out of 5496, or 35%) occur just once. This book allows you to find additional occurrences of 63% or 1201 of these words in the Greek Old Testament. Due to the fact that the Greek Old Testament was "the Bible of the early church," precisely the writers of the Greek New Testament, this additional light thrown on the New Testament vocabulary is the most reliable and useful.

However, even for words occurring more than once in the New Testament, being about to find thousands of additional occurrences in the Old Testament is of great value.

I have taught a course using this text for a number of semesters. It is by far the best XML text I have found. The tutorial examples Patrick Carey includes in all his books are well thought out and demonstrate the best use of the technology he presents. I personally do not use the copy of XML Spy included with the text - I prefer other editors - but it is handy to have this trial version for someone who doesn't want to find an editor on their own.

The British publisher is the secondary publisher and indeed is out of print, however the US publisher, the William Carey International University Press, which is the primary publisher is not out of print. Swanson's Greek Manuscripts, Four Gospels, his Acts, and his Galatians are all in print in sizable quantities. Ralph D. Winter, Director, WCIU Press No publication in the world on paper or in electronic form presents the full text of the 45 most ancient manuscripts in one easy to read format.

Having read the thesis on which this book is based, I believe it provides a rare insight into the student experience of learning piano in a traditional conservatoire setting. It challenges widely held beliefs and offers suggestions for broadening the often narrow focus of this kind of study. Very highly recommended reading for those music teachers who are interested in positive outcomes for their students.
