A 'must read' for psychotherapists seeking to improve their effectiveness

In this provocative yet inspirational book Dr Timothy Carey presents a new point of view regarding the practice of helping people overcome their psychological problems.
In this method of psychotherapy(MOL), based on a scientific explanation of human behaviour(PCT), the author highlights that it is the clients who get themselves better when receiving help for their psychological distress and shows the therapist how to facilitate and not get in the way of this process.
This is ground-breaking material which challenges current widespread beliefs about psychological problems and so-called mental illness and their current treatment.
It is easy reading and I found the author's matter of fact and enthusiastic style quite delightful.
I for one share Dr Carey's excitement that "With PCT as its bedrock, psychology might well become the most noble science of all."

A wonderful journey through a wonderful country

Any one of us who have had their lives shaped by throwing ourselves out of our cultural comfort zone and placing ourselves amongst the foreign remember how difficult, enriching, frustrating, exhilarating, and truly revolutionary it can be. The author expresses her personal version of that journey abroad - in travels as well as personal growth. Anyone who's life has been changed through living in a foreign culture will find this story familiar and you will feel a kindred spirit with the author. The author has a wonderful turn of expression, sense of humor, and eye for observation. More than that, she's intensely compassionate and makes communities better for having passed through them. The sketches and illustrations are a bonus - they are lovely and varied.

I enjoyed this book very much!

While this book is not my personal favorite out of the series it is as entertaining as the others. Lydia is on duty in ER when the Tigers rookie pitcher West Rideout is brought in with an injury to his precious arm. Lydia consoles him as this is her job. West however is smitten with her and joins Ben and Gorden in the competition for her affections (Much to their disgust). Like the others in the series it is hard to put down untill you are finished!

Organic chemistry is difficult for many people but A's are essentiel for those pursuing careers in the medical field. To truly understand organic chemistry, one must be able to visual the structural makeup in total 3-D. Making models is extremely helpful. It pulled me from a "B" to an "A".

A circus full of fun!

Review Date: 2000-07-13
This is an excellent book for both children and children at heart. Kids can easily relate to the main character's, Gusty's, wish to join the circus. With hard work, Gusty and her friend Brandy the dog achieve thier goal to appear in the circus, and when the circus moves away, Gusty's friends use thier imaginations to give Gusty a circus of her own! The book touches upon real life situations in the fantastic setting of Dream Valley, the world of the My Little Ponies. It shows children how teamwork and friendship can help friends in need, and how hard work helps to accomplish one's goals.

Another person claiming to be a Fortune, but she does not want money. Jessica Holmes comes to America to find her grandfather Ben's relatives. The Fortunes may be her daughter Annie's only chance at life. Arriving in Minneapolis, Annie becomes ill and is taken to the hospital. Dr. Stephen Hunter will not only be Annie's doctor, but as luck would have, it he is also a neighbor to the Fortunes. Stephen and Jessica form an unspoken bond to save Annie. They are also very much attracted to each other. One by one the Fortune clan start to get tested to see if they can help Annie.

There is a lot going on in this book. Not only the love between Stephen and Jessica, but also the pain of their pasts. The Fortunes are also haunted by the trouble that Jake is in, not to mention, the company. I felt that this book in particular would be best enjoyed by someone reading the entire series. It is so full of information that is in some way connected to on going stories from the other books.

Classic Three Investigators!

Review Date: 2008-07-12
I read these books to my 10 year old son and he absolutely loves them. The characters are great and all the books have the right blend of "spooky" happenings and suspense. Lots of creeping around at night. This one has a secret society with mysterious rituals. Fun all around for the mystery lover!

I love how the series is set in the Los Angeles area in its Hitchock heydey. All the place and street names add a nostalgic mood. Plus as you read the series, you get to know and love the characters of the three investigators, Jupiter Jones, Pete Crenshaw and Bob Andrews along with all the characters at the Jones Salvage yard - Aunt Mathilda, the Bavarian brothers Hans and Konrad.

Striking images, smart writing, and elegant design

This is a collection of beautiful photographs of mostly unbeautiful people and places. This is a great challenge and he meets it well. The more I look at this book, the more unfolds for me. These are dense, graceful photos from around the world. He uses cross processing, black and white and simple color with the eye of a real master. There are a collection of short stories which I have not read yet, but anything with Nick Cave in it, gets my money. For a first book, this is a keeper.

A parroting frenzy of talking heads
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-23
Armand Mattelart is a French professor of information and communication theory at the Université de Paris-VIII, Saint-Denis. His book is concisely written at only 123 pages and provides an insightful argument against globalization. Mattelart explains how freedom of speech translates on a global scale to freedom of commerce.

The central problem for Mattelart is that by letting corporations network the world, we are letting them control the marketplace of ideas, as if they have shackled the invisible hand of capitalistic self-governance. This inevitably leads, says Mattelart, to what is essentially nothing more than human commodification, such that the marketplace of ideas is essentially a parroting frenzy of talking heads socioeconomically engineered to spread profitable memes.
