Whether you are new to the world of Utopias or whether you've already read the major Utopian novels such as Brave New World
and 1984, this book will certainly come in handy. It lists a selection of Utopian works from Plato's "Republic" to Michio
Kaku's "Visions". For each Utopian work, Carey gives a short writeup about the author as well a synopsis, along with some
comments of his own. Do remember to read the Introduction, which provides a succinct account of Utopias then and now, as well
as their similarities and differences. Beautiful, beautiful Utopia!

Fast moving romance between two unlikely souls....."passing in the night". Quick read on how love can conquer adversities
and how individuals from different classes and temperaments can come together. Also the characters mature and learn to accept
help when needed. Excellent, descriptive writing of a rural setting.

Colorado real estate and mining magnate Wiley E. "Dutch" Hargrett, from the famed Flying D Ranch, hasn't seen his grand daughter
Lisa in over a year. He'd spoiled his daughter, Lisa's mother, rotten and now she's in jail for dealing cocaine. Lisa's father,
a rodeo cowboy, got custody and married a girl named Holly. A year later he died as a result of a rodeo accident and he made
Holly promise not to let Dutch get a hold of Lisa, because he didn't want her turning out the way her mother had. So Holly
took off with the girl right after the funeral.
Dutch has hired private detectives to no avail. So now he wants his ace attorney, Jake McKenzie, to find Holly and Lisa. Jake reluctantly takes the job and he finds the small ranch that Holly owns. However, he's not so sure he wants to hand the pair over to Dutch till he finds out what the situation is, so he hires on as a ranch hand.
It's not long before the pair fall in love and they marry on Christmas Eve, without Jake ever telling Holly that he'd been hired to find her. However Dutch hasn't given up and Jake has left tracks any idiot could follow, and Dutch Hargrett is no idiot.
I really liked this fast-paced romance and I certainly will be on the lookout for any more by Suzanne Carey. She has put it all into this book, romance, suspense, great characters and a super story. You won't go wrong with this one.

I have this calendar in my office and get a lot of comments! Very well done. I also like the European feel to it - it's
nice to have the world's holidays listed. But foremost, the ferret photography is great! This is my 2nd year of ferret calendars
from this particular company. Will get a 2008 one next year.

I have just read an old edition of this book to my class of eight year olds and they have loved it. They found the characters
vividly described, especially the film star's servant, and enjoyed the plot twists. Alexander McCall Smith writes just as
well for children as he does for adults. It's a great pity that the book is currently out of print.

"Fool's Paradise" is an excellent introduction to the work of an amazing writer and astonishingly versatile public intellectual,
now largely forgotten. Before editing "The Nation" for two decades, McWilliams wrote a dozen first-rate books and hundreds
of penetrating articles on the exploitation of farm labor, racial and ethnic prejudice, the Japanese-American internment,
California politics and culture, and the Red scare. He also served in state government and played a role in several high-profile
court cases. His 1946 book, "Southern California: An Island on the Land," inspired the Oscar-winning screenplay for "Chinatown,"
and he is still widely regarded as the finest nonfiction writer on California--ever. Later, he published many talented young
journalists in the pages of "The Nation," including Ralph Nader, Hunter S. Thompson, and Howard Zinn. Along with samples
of McWilliams's own lucid writing, "Fool's Paradise" includes superb essays by his son, political theorist Wilson Carey McWilliams,
and by Gray Brechin, author of "Imperial San Francisco."
