Dreamweaver 8 Design and ConstructionReview Date: 2007-07-16
I believe that the best way to choose website software is to understand what that particular program can do and how this may or may not suit your needs and your abilities. It doesn't help to buy software that can do seemingly magical things if you don't have a clue how to actually make it work. This book helps the reader understand the basics of the Dreamweaver 8 program with a taste of some of the more complex things that can be done.
Great for the money.Review Date: 2006-06-11
My only critique is that it seemed like we didn't even get to actually using Dreamweaver 8 until about page 100. Before that was an intro to general web-site concepts and HTML.
Anyway, it's an attractive and informative book that is priced lower than most.
Needs Color!!!Review Date: 2006-09-08
For anyone that uses Dreamweaver 8 on a daily basis this is a great reference guide but the layout editor could have done a much better job. If you care about content more than pizzaz, I think you will be happy with this book
**** RECOMMENDED
DREAMWEAVER FIELDS FOREVER!!Review Date: 2006-09-17
Campbell, begins by showing you how to devise your plan. Then, the author shows you how to develop a blueprint for your site. Next, he shows you how to add just about anything to the pages of your site. Finally, the author shows you how to take the working prototype that exists on your computer and publish it to the Web for all of the world to see.
This most excellent book serves an introduction to creating web sites using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. More importantly, the focus throughout this book is that sound design and usability are inextricably linked.

Great for Glassblowers!Review Date: 2006-06-25
My daughter Ailia (age 4) enjoys the story, illustrations and wonderful colors in this book.
It is a fairly quick read, but not too short, a great one for bedtime.
and for us glassblowers... it simply warms the heart,

Read Aloud WinnerReview Date: 2005-06-04
Young Elena leaves her home to embark on a magical journey to Monterrey, Mexico in order to follow her dream of learning the art of glassblowing. Later, she returns home to her father, who had refused to teach her his trade because no one had ever "heard of a girl glassblower." This story celebrates Elena's uniqueness as an artist and a person, as well as the importance of pursuing a dream.
With acrylic and crayons, Juan has created luminous paintings with an expressionistic, folk-art quality and a palette of desert colors. Juan's use of light is particularly noteworthy, especially in the illustrations depicting glassblowing. The rounded figure of Elena and her expressive facial features make her an attractive character. The colors, movement, and details of each painting invite one to linger over every page.
In selecting this book for the Award, the Read Aloud Committee noted the lyrical quality of the text, as well as children's special appreciation of the illustrations. In addition, children were interested in the conflict between Elena and her father and also enjoyed the sprinkling of Spanish words. Readers found the Spanish-English Glossary in the front of the book helpful.

Becoming breed knowledgeable is extremely important so that the rate for abandonment and shelter turn-ins can lessen over time. Nancy arms the reader with more than enough information to make an educated decision "about everything GSP"! I personally recommended this book to several people over the last year and they have all reported that this book was a valuable tool in their decision making process!

An instructor's perspective...Review Date: 2006-03-13
This is probably the BEST text on this subject I have seen; so much so that I plan to look into their other books. Running the gamut from cold appetizers to a primer on ice sculpting to a discussion of centerpiece carving, this book provides clear concise examples of each process. The full color pictures are fantastic and a welcome addition to the instructions provided. If I was teaching again, this would be my textbook of choice.

A family classic seriesReview Date: 2007-10-07
We have read each book in the series together as a family and they are written for children but not down to children so that adults are also drawn in. The world Hoeye creates is so visually real it's great for developing comprehension and memory skills. Hermux and his friends have become classics for our family.
No Time Like Show Time Review Date: 2007-09-22
Fluster Varmint's chain of bad events begins when his wife dies shortly after birth of their daughter Beulith. A lot of the story revolves around Beulith and the theater because they are the most important things in Varmint's life. The theater is the only place that Beulith Varmint knows because she grew up around the stage of Varmint Variety Theater.
The other books in this series are Time Stop for No Mouse and The Sands of Time. In the series they all start the same way. Hermux never goes out to find the adventures the adventures always find him in one way or other, leading him into a world he would have never known existed. The first book really starts to explain Hermux life of solving mysteries. I like his writing because the chapters are short so it's easier to read for long periods of time. It's very hard to stop reading this book because it's full of excitement. I liked this book because there is never dull part of the book and the plot never stops. This book is full of suspense and always keeps you guessing.

The authors writing style was unique and amazing. All of the words you could tell were not just jotted down they were thought through. It had a great plot and was never slow. It was a book of non-stop action.
I loved this book for many reasons. It had tons of adventure. It was suspensful and full of fun things that always drew my attention. It also had well developed characters. I would give this book five stars because it was awesome. It had all the things that make a great book. If you liked Time Srops for No Mouse and Sands of Time you would definitely like this book.

A time of wonder and reasonReview Date: 2003-02-27
This book is more thorough than the second edition of Mage the Ascension. Not only does it provide a lot of examples and explanations for spells, and rituals, it also cleared up a lot of the limitations and potentials for the various spheres.
Even though there are already party lines, the rules make it possible to have both Traditional and Technocratic magi working together. It is a time of reorganization and both parties are trying to find their destinies. In fact, the reader will follow the experiences of a Celestial Chorus member and a member of the Hippocratic Circle throughout the book. The idea of same goals through different methods was stressed.
The time period seemed to be the ideal setting for Mage. Not only are their so many possibilities in terms of new ideas and beliefs, the age of exploration in the high seas, the skies, the unknown continents, as well as the Void are all available for curious magi and their associates.
This book is a must for anyone who is interested in Mage. It is a very complete work and has vital information for storytellers and players who want to use the Renaissance setting. Whether you have an interest in high artisans, explorers, knights, shamans, witches, alchemists, there is something here for you.
A great game in it's perfect settingReview Date: 2001-03-12
In the Mage timeline, though, there was a crucial event which splitted history in two: Renaissance. It was then that the whole world started believing in science and it's apparent limitless capacities. It was then when people started removing some attributes which made the world turn from God, and it was then when the church started the most brutal prosecution against "pagans": Inquisition.
This is a book about the clash between 3 forces: Faith, Science and Magick. And as the Mage storyline goes, it's the perfect moment to play a Mage.
What if magic worked the way it was supposed to?Review Date: 2000-12-15
There's quite a bit of history and world setting information in this book. Possibly too much, depending on your needs. Relatively little of the book is taken up with game system mechanics. What system rules there are cannot be found all in one place. The organization of the rules is somewhat loose. Like the modern game, the magic system is open-ended, with ability defined in areas of control rather than specific spells. But like most other Mage books, spells (rotes) can be found if one looks hard enough.
If you've played Mage: The Ascension, it will be easier to understand this book. If not, some of the game rules might be confusing. If you like the Mage magic system, but don't care for the dark-goth game world White Wolf sets the games in, this is probably the game for you.

"Paper, Scissors, Death" starts with a bang and the plot never slows down. Review Date: 2008-11-05
As the popularity of scrapbooking has increased, so has the number of books that center around the hobby. "Paper, Scissors, Death" features Kiki Lowenstein, an imaginative and creative scrapbooker whose artistic abilities come in handy when she falls on hard times financially after her husband's unexpected death. She begins teaching classes at a local craft store and is hired to complete a large project for a bridal shower. Shortly afterwards, dangerous events begin happening to Kiki so she begins working with handsome Detective Chad Detweiler to figure out if the danger she is in is somehow related to events that occurred at the shower. As she tries to determine who is behind these occurrences, she must exercise great caution when deciding who she can trust and who does not have her best interests at heart.
Much of this book revolves around the relationships Kiki has. She regrets having to relocate her daughter Anya to a bad neighborhood. As a result, Sheila (Kiki's mother-in-law), who never thought Kiki was good enough to be a member of her social class, will do whatever she can to try to get custody of her granddaughter. Kiki also learns about true friendship. She receives support from her former housekeeper and the craft store owner, not her wealthy "friends" who dumped her when her financial status changed.
This book is definitely written for a female audience. The author provides scrapbooking tips that would be helpful to both amateur and well-seasoned scrapbookers. The main character is a strong, intelligent female, but the reader is allowed to see her vulnerable side as well, when she must hold things together for her daughter's sake. There are romantic aspects in the story and watching a potential relationship develop was fun.
"Paper, Scissors, Death" by Joanna Campbell Slan starts with a bang and the plot never slows down. Kiki is constantly faced with new adversities which she must meet head-on in order to keep both her life and her daughter's life from being turned completely upside-down. The incredible ending suggests a possible sequel may be forthcoming, in which the author will undoubtedly, once again, capture the reader's complete attention while also stimulating her creativity.
A MOST enjoyable read!Review Date: 2008-11-03
This first book in what appears to be a series finds the rich-but-down-to-earth Kiki learning that her husband George has died naked in a St. Louis motel room. The reader knows it's murder and not something as lurid as a heart attack during an afternoon delight, but Kiki doesn't.
Kiki not only has to deal with George's two-timing death, but he's left her without a penny to her name. She has to sell her gold Lexus and find a way to support herself and her daughter Anya. It doesn't help that there isn't enough money for the staples, but Anya's private school costs more than Kiki could possible make in a year. George's mother is willing to do anything for Anya, but she despises Kiki's mere existence.
Kiki, a scrapbooker extraordinaire, turns to her hobby for income. She gets a freelance gig at the store she frequented when she had money. One of her first jobs is as the instructor at a bridal shower. Kiki makes a supposedly cutting remark to one of the shower's guests. When the guest, also an old flame of George's turns up dead, Kiki is the primary suspect. I didn't really understand that logic as the remark was rather lame.
Nonetheless, Kiki not only has two murders to solve, but someone has broken into the shabby place she and Anya now call home.
Paper, Scissors, Death: A Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery was a fun and quick read. I enjoyed the scrapbooking tips Slan gives. Not a scrapbooker myself, the hobby sounds complicated, but it did not get in the way of this light-hearted, fun cozy. I'm already ready for Kiki's next adventure.
Armchair Interviews says: A good front-of-the-fire read.
A well-crafted character-driven mysteryReview Date: 2008-10-28
Even if you are not a scrapbooking maven like Kiki, you will enjoy this sharply written mystery that has a nice humorous edge and lots of insight about how people collect memories. There is nice character development here, too, as the initially tentative Kiki takes charge of her life, starts a career, and protects her daughter. By the end of the book you will find that you're asking yourself more and more: WWKD? And you may want to enroll in a class or two at Tough Tamales U.
And a sequel is on the way!

This is a MUST READ!!Review Date: 2008-09-27
I knew I was going to be sorry I started this book yesterday - I knew I'd read it to the end, and I did! The twists and turns you never see coming! Don't plan on "turning out the lights" at the end of each chapter, it won't happen!
Kiki Lowenstein became real instantly. You cheered for her, cried with her, and loved her mothering. You hated all who crossed her, yet wanted them to continue so you could see her evolve. Each person, heck, each ANIMAL became special!!
So tomorrow, since I won't have my book to read - I will scrap a page of my new best friend - Kiki Lowenstein. I can't wait for the next book, I'll be awaiting that as much as I did each of the Harry Potter books! Slan has picked up for me, where Rowling left off!

Good start, but not comprehensiveReview Date: 2003-09-28
The descriptions of the "active" options for each area are very thorough, and much better than any other guide I have used. It includes information for just about every outdoor activity - hiking, climbing, mountain biking, road biking, kayaking, winter sports, and more. I found it to be a good, basic introduction to the area I was visiting, but not detailed enough for the hiking I had planned. I have been to Mt. Desert Island several times, and I can say the same for that area. A few hikes are listed, but some of my favorites are not mentioned at all. It's best to get a guidebook more specific to whatever region you will be visiting, rather than relying soley on this book.
The area I found to be most lacking is the "rest easy" part. Only a few lodgings and restaurants are included for each area. I did some on-line research prior to booking, and several of the recommended places got very poor reviews from other sources. I'm glad I didn't rely entirely on this book when choosing where to stay.
Same with the recommended restaurants. My favorite restaurants in both areas (White Mountains and Mt. Desert Island) aren't mentioned at all (save for one). If I had stuck to this guide, I would have missed out on some wonderful meals.
I found the book to be a great beginning, but it was not comprehensive enough for me. I recommend it to any active traveler, but be sure to do other research as well.

After page 95 (or so), you jump right into Dreamweaver and are instructed as to its' functions. The Webpage you're building is a basic HTML page, and does not use any server-side technology like ASP, or PHP, or CGI/Perl.
It too is well layed-out, and step-by-step. I only wished that a deeper discussion of CSS integration was employed.
So, for the beginner, or for someone who likes to paper & pencil prep, I'd have to say that this is a worthwhile buy.
For the more advanced user, I'd have to say that you may be better off with more of a reference-style tome.
All said, I do not regret the purchase.
