A Practical guide to Reducing Weight

I am overweight and I needed a book that, in simple language, will guide me on the appropriate strategies to bring me to "normal" weight. After an exhaustive search, I came across this book and I have never regretted my decision to buy it.

I found the book easy to read and follow and the tips really make sense. I then went about implementing the advice given and it works for me. The book does not suggest quick fix solutions that often do not work and disappoint you but rather provides a methodical approach on what to eat and not to eat, how to effectively burn the fat through simple exercises like walking. The book also dispels many diet and exercise fallacies.

The only drawback with the book is that the author repeats himself often. This is not a major problem, however, as the repetition serves to remind the reader of the main points highlighted before.

Well, I have managed to lose 4 Kg in the past six weeks and I am on target to lose an extra 8 Kg to bring me to a normal, healthy weight with minimal risk of weight related diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease or diabetes.

About the book- Ashleigh Griffen is excited that she gets to visit her cousin Kaitlin out west in the mountains of Nevada. She and Kait make plans about riding and Kaitlin's horse, a thoroughbred racer named Ranger. Ranger hasnt been training well at all, and his maiden race is coming up. Ashleigh makes the mistake of challenging Shelby, the rodeo queen, to any event she wants. Now Ashleigh must take on a new style of riding, and different western events. And to top it off, Ashleigh finds out her mare, Stardust, is pregnant with a foal by Edgardale's stallion, Royal Renegade.

My opinion: Great book! It was quite a change from the previous books. The only thing i dont like is the fact that Stardust is about 3 months along in this book, but in the next book she is near foaling (11 months). Ashleigh only stayed in Nevada for like 3 or 6 weeks (i forget which it was). So the time fram was off by a couple months.

FANTASTIC!!!

This is a great book. I ride western, so it was a good change. I would love to see real, wild, mustangs. Ashleigh shouldn't of even thought about going home over Stardust's foal, when Stardust is barely pregnant. HORSE LOVERS- READ THIS BOOK!!!

When Ashleigh Griffen goes out west to Nevada to visit her cousins, she sees rodeos, competes in gymkhanas, and even sees wild mustangs. There are even small races out there, but her cousin's racehorse is not doing very well. She is devastated that her parents tell her that the colt won't be racing anymore, so Ashleigh tries to help. Will she be able to do it? You also find out in this book, that Ashleigh's mare is in foal!

For anyone who has ever used Campbell Soups for recipes, or ever wanted to see just how to do the classics like green bean casserole or squash casserole, this is a must have.
Clear, simple recipes that don't take hours - my kind of cookbook - think you will find the same.

A "MUST HAVE" Cook book!

Even if you consider yourself an excellent cook, this book is wonderful. The recipes are simple, but with that "home cooked" taste! LOTS of pictures. I especially like the section "Make It Hearty", which has suggestions for simply adding a couple of additional ingredients to a can of soup to make a meal.

This is a great gift for busy families! Well worth every penny!

Excellent book and very thought provoking. Excellent source for teaching University Students about organizations that are pliable abstracts with the unspoken word being the controlling mechanism. It is imperative that our Managers of the future become innovative thinkers and think outside of the box. I recommend that all Managers and business people interested in analyzing their own organization for the purpose of developing a more creative and resourceful unit read this dynamic book.

This book addresses many of the critical issues and difficulties faced by all levels of the management community. I was impressed by this book. I am a partner of Allstar Knowledge Systems, a systems software and integration company. Mr. LeDoux's handling of the ethics issues and dealing with confrontation were exceptional. His quick course on project management is one of the best I've seen for educating upper-level management people and his steps for selling solutions is simple to use. I am a big fan of Peters and his management books. I feel that Mr. LeDoux puts Mr. Peters' concepts into practical application. I have been in business for over 30 years and this is one of the best books for addressing management in quick, easy-to-read topics that I've seen.

30 earring projects that range from very simple to challenging, and it's just as inspiring as the rest of them, the projects and ideas make you wonder what else can be done using the techniques offered. I really love it, and it's already one of my favorites. One of the things I love best about this series of books is that there are so many designers involved, so you get a great cross sections of ideas, from fun to elegant, and from very simple to ornate and complex, even the colors chosen can be inspiring.

I've just started with the projects in this book and they are awesome. I especially want to thank Nikia Angel for her contribution. Holiday Star is a fantastic project, although I have no idea how you manage to see size 15/0 seed beads. I did mine using 11/0 and struggled, but they turned out fantastic. Thanks to Jean Campbell and every designer who contributed to this book. The whole series is helping me get to the next level with my beading. Rita

This is a fine book well illustrated with maps and pictures. The bibliography is nice. Criticisms (minor!)Some of the illustrations are misinterpreted: The hoplites on P.39 have their shields slung on their shoulders, not held in their left hand; and the ram on pg. 42 is not visible. The modern photos are generally excellent but would be inproved with letters as overlays showing relevant features.
The military-historical judegements of the author are right on line!
As for the title? The book is much more about the attackers than the defenders!

Siege Warfare 546 BC-AD 378
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-07
First of all, this book is actually four Osprey books on Classical siege warfare in one (Elite titles 121 and 126 and New Vanguard titles 78 and 89), so if you want those books buy this one instead and if you already have them don't!

The entirety of this book is by Duncan Campbell, an expert on ancient Roman fortifications and siege warfare who is well qualified to write such a book. There are some typical color plates interspersed throughout, some by the well-known and talented Adam Hook.

The text is invaluable, discussing ancient siege warfare from late Assyrian and Persian days to that of the 4th Century Romans. Slightly more than half of the book deals with the Romans, while the first half focuses largely on Greek sieges of the 5th-3rd Centuries BC.

In addition to many photos, maps, and diagrams, many in color, the book also contains page-sized sections discussing particular ancient machines used in sieges, like the 'digging tortoise', the ram-tortoise, the sambuca, and the famous Roman siege tower. The book also contains a good dose of information on the siege warfare of the enemies of the Classical world, notably the Carthaginians, Gauls, Goths, and Achaemenid and Sassanid Persians.

Overall, it is a thorough and readable introduction to ancient siege warfare and would be a useful addition to the library of any military historian or history enthusiast.

The evolution of siege warfare through nine centuries comes to life in a top pick for any ancient history library.

BESIEGED: SIEGE WARFARE IN THE ANCIENT WORLD may be a specialty item for college-level holdings, but any collection strong in early history - not just military holdings - must have it. It covers the methods of siege warfare, examining history, politics, tactics and weaponry alike in a thorough coverage which includes lavish illustrations, photos and maps throughout. The evolution of siege warfare through nine centuries comes to life in a top pick for any ancient history library.

Revisiting the past

I grew up in East Texas and have lived around the Big Thicket all my life. As a child, I heard my grandfather and his brother tell tales of the bears and "panthers" they had hunted in the early 1900's. I picked this book up one afternoon and began to skim it, and I was hooked within minutes. I couldn't put it down. In the 60's and 70's the authors interviewed many older residents of the Big Thicket area, allowing the old-timers to simply relate their rememberances, from the 1860's on up into the oil boom and logging days of the early 20th century. The dialect is distinct, and the authors do a good job of conveying the pronunciation. The stories these people tell of the hardships and yet the wonder of living in a true wilderness is simply fascinating. If you have any interest in the Big Thicket area of Texas, or if you just enjoy tales of life in the "wild and wooly days", then you will certainly enjoy these stories. It's truly a wonder that these folks survived the hard life and wild animals! My wife and I were so enthralled with these stories, that we found time a few days later to drive over and visit some of the remaining thicket, near Saratoga, TX.

Collaboratively compiled and co-edited by lifelong naturalists Campbell and Lynn Loughmiller, Big Thicket Legacy is a compendium of engaging and informative anecdotes about life and living in the Big Thicket country, which is a nearly impassable area of Texas territory that only a few pioneers dared to brave. In those days, only the heartiest of individuals and families could call a place within the heart of the Big Thicket home; their tales have become a part of Texas folklore, and in Big Thicket Legacy are preserved to available to the general reading public, thereby recounting a very special experienced wisdom for new generations of Texans.

G. Michael Campbell notes a shocking statistic in the opening pages of his book: Americans fear public speaking more than death. One reason that so many professionals dread making presentations is that they have not been trained in the basics. The best public speakers use techniques that can be taught and learned, and Campbell presents many of the most important of these methods here. We from getAbstract strongly recommend this book to any novice public speakers, as well as to presentation veterans who are sure to pick up a new trick or two.

All of us in business have wished at some time or the other for a "shield" that would stop holes from being shot into the ideas we present. In this book, Mike Campbell offers an easy-to-read and easy-to-follow guide to ensure "bullet-proof presentations." He discusses all aspects of planning and preparing for a presentation including what types of visual aids-from old-fashioned flipcharts to computer-generated media - might enhance the story being told. He explains how to build the body of a speech and choose the right strategy for delivery to guarantee a presentation has not only substance but also style. There are tips and advice for everyone here - no matter their rung on the corporate ladder or how often they present. The "blueprint" for presentation preparation is a handy tool that should be used again and again and the "consider this" illustrations and anecdotes keep the reading stimulating and interesting!

There is an old saying in sales: "You have to sell the sizzle along with the steak." Most presentation books (and I have read dozens) sell a lot of sizzle and very little meat. Bulletproof Presentations is the best book I have read on business presentations, because it focuses as much on how to develop your content as on the mechanics of the presentation. For example, the concept of an overriding theme is critical to ensuring that your message gets remembered. Campbell's stories and examples show that he is an expert on delivering professional presentations to a business audience, and I believe anyone following his advice can aspire to the same level. I strongly recommend this book.

Both my 10-month old and 2-year old love this book! They've pushed the swing, watered the flowers, passed the ball, and caught the butterfly so many times that the pages are starting to rip. Their favorite page by far is the last one, where they have to find the little boy behind the wheelbarrow. They play peek-a-boo with the him for several minutes, which in infant/toddler time is an eternity!

My 8 month old daughter loves this book. It's simple enough for her to follow along, but also interesting enough to keep her attention for all four pages! Each page has something to do like turn the water wheel to "water " the flowers or pull the wagon to play peek a boo with the puppy. It's made of very sturdy cardboard and so are the pull outs. My daughter has already tried to wrestle with it and there's no damage! Each page has a little text, but a lot to notice so there's lots of room for improvisation on the part of the parents. My daughter gets so excited when I pull out this book, I'm going to get a couple more like it!

Adventure of this kind is good for any 10 to 90 year old reader - it involves kinship and friendship, youth & aged, good & bad, beauty and malevolence. When you let yourself fall into this fantasy you find yourself believing in "the Doom" and in solving the riddle: "No living man; no woman born / Shall enter here and live 'til morn."
