I was very happy to have gotten a copy of this from T while I was up visiting a mutual friend of ours in April. I read through - and though it took me a few pages to fall in with it (I am used to reading a slightly different manga style) - Once I picked up on it, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read, with a fabulous mixture of Cute and Cutting edge for the artwork - and a rather witty dig with jokes and wording on the writer's part. I'm looking forward to purchasing Divalicious! #2 when it gets released this coming February!

Lots of small stories about a diva and her manager. Really cute, great drawing, each story builds a little more to the diva.
But leaves you hanging. I only wish I had waited 'til a second one was out to buy it. Must know what's next!

A very good book!

I've always been a big fan of both T Campbell and Amy Mebberson from web comics such as Penny and Aggie and As if!, and Divalicious! definitely lived up to the expectations they had created. I'd recommend it to any fan of their previous works, as well as any fan of comics in general.

Divalicious! was a good story, that had the same type of feel as her web comic As If! Although, As IF was by far better, this story was still entertaining and funny. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone. Amy Mebberson's style is witty, intellegent, and very deserving of the Tokoyo Rising Stars of Manga award.

I feel privilage in giving the first review at Amazon. :)

I have a stack of contemporary poetry books by my bed, many of them partially read, book-marked at a favorite poem. Campbell's book, Enter, is the only one I read from cover to cover in two evenings. Then I went back and marked my favorites. Then I read a few again. His poetry is addictive like popcorn. More than that: it is like sitting down with a bucket of popcorn to watch a movie on video with your family. His poetry ranges in emotion from clever to poignant, yet there is a thread running throughout of unvarnished joy in everyday existence. Campbell's book is a work by that most rare of creatures: a poet in command of language and wit who is actually contented with his life. Get the book, pop some popcorn, and enjoy...

Mr. Campbell aka (the Poet Guru of the San Gabriel Valley)
gives us a look at not only a personal part of his day to day existence, but the mind of a Father, Teacher, Husband, Son and Grandson as he deals with everything from sex to fast food to fear and death, part intellectual, part observer, he sees all obstacles and describes them to us before losing his lunch.
Well worth owning to read again and again!

I was lucky enough to stumble across Don "Kingerfisher" Campbell's fine book at a garage sale. I almost did not make this purchase because the seller wanted to sell it for $.15 (fifteen cents) and I only was willing to spend .10 n(ten cents). After haggling for 45 minutes we finally agreed on a price of $.12 (twelve cents). I felt sort of bad at first for spending so much, but after reading this book I felt good about my purchase and like I had gotten my money's worth. Don Campbell's poetry has inspired me to be all I can be and to see the humour and poetry in each and every day. I have also started writing poetry under the inspiration of Don Campbell. Don "kingfisher" Campbell is truly a gifted writer. I do believe that he is second only to ee cummings. I have laughed and cried reading Don Campbell's fine book of poetry.

it digs deep into the depths of human depravity.
i couldn't get enough of it myself.
i found it up here in toronto in a reduced book bargain bin and i'm satisfied to say it was worth the 99 cents i paid for it.
it'll make you think and make you think you stink, but don't worry cuz you will definetly need a shower after putting it down.

The price beats what most college bookstores charge. I always reccommend purchasing online it could cut the cost of the book in half. However if your going to purchase your college book online you should visit the college bookstore and find out what the instructor requires for the class a few weeks ahead of time so you dont get stuck paying for expedited shipping.

Fine overall, however tileted towords "group selection" thinking.

Overall the book is written well . I especially like the "evolutionary connection" segment at the end of each chapter. My only gripe is is that while it repeatedly stresses in the text and test data bank that the "population is the smallest unit of evolution", it fails to explicitly mention that the "gene is the smallest unit of selection". It make the authors suspect to be adherence of the old "group selection" thinking.

Also would it be nice had it address basic sociobiological concepts which are cornerstone of evolutionary thinking.

Depth and Accuracy

Campbell and Reece are best known as the authors of the hefty and excellent "Biology", now in it's 6th edition used by undegraduate biology majors and AP Biology students.

"Essential Biology" uses a different approach. The authors have packed a great deal into this amazingly small textbook. I recently reviewed a huge number of introductory biology texts for adoption in our school district. We use Campbell and Reece's Biology, 6th edition for our AP biology course but were looking for a textbook to use with our 9th grade honors biology students.

After a lengthy comparison of textbooks we picked "Essential Biology" based on several things. First we found the book to be accurate, readable, and concise. We felt that it would give the students a depth of understanding in the core biological principles so that they would be ready when they moved on to AP biology later in their high school career.

Instead of trying to "cover" everything under the biological sun, "Essential Biology" focuses on four core biological topics: cells, genetics, evolution, and ecology. It's 20 chapters are broken up into these 4 units and does a wonderful job of pulling it all together.

Other textbooks certainly cover more material but with less depth. What is the use of having a huge textbook that the students either never finish or rush through with no real understanding? This is a textbook that the students can dig into and throughly understand during one course.

It is supported by CD-ROM's and on-line material. The website provides activities, on-line labs, quizes, and other practice. Students can print out results or e-mail them to their teachers.

I would recommend this text as one for use in a non-majors biology course or as an advanced high school biology introductory course.

It does feel good to be a WOMAN

Review Date: 2008-04-09
Do you ever get the feeling, in this world [and this lovely mortality], that you're just not good enough because you're a woman? How is it that Satan has worked soooo hard on this world, on MEN and especially us women in believing such lies? Perhaps the Adversary has a special vengeance upon women...that is just one of the many interesting subjects talked about in this book. This book is a must-read for ALL women...especially LDS women since, yes, this book is by an LDS author. Many of the quotes used are from Latter-day prophets and apostles. It's a wonderful read. What happened in Eden WAS necessary...none of us would have been able to come here if EVE did not do what she did. I am grateful and very blessed to be a Daughter of Eve. =) Some neat quotes from the book are:

"Eve - a daughter of God, one of the spirit offspring of the Almighty Elohim - was among the noble and great in preexistence. She ranked in spiritual stature, in faith and devotion, in conformity to eternal law with Michael."

"Certainly these sisters labored as diligently then, and fought as valiantly in the war in heaven, as did the brethren, even as they in like manner stand firm today, in mortality, in the cause of truth and righteousness."

"Eve was foreordained to be a partner, an organizer, a builder, and a creator of forms so that the great plan might be fulfilled."

"Then as His final creation, the crowning of His glorious work, He created woman. I like to regard Eve as His masterpiece after all that had gone before, the final work before He rested from His labors."

"So came Eve...the last created being in the creation of the world, without whom the whole creation of the world and all that was in the world would have been in vain and the purposes of God have come to naught."

COMPANION AND EQUAL

She explains that our understanding of "help meet" is very skewed from what was actually intended... help meet actually means even with or equal to...the word help that was used in the bible actually means to rescue or to save...and another meaning is 'to be strong'... "When God creates Eve... His intent is that she will be - unlike the animals - a power (or strength) equal to him."

"The Lord knew they [Adam and Eve] would do this [partake of the fruit], and he had designed that they should."

"Adam, our father, and Eve, our mother must obey. They must fall. They must become mortal. Death must enter the world. There is no other way. They must fall that man may be."

"The plan is not based on chance, nor on accident. It is based on purpose, on agency, on choice. It accords with laws which were in force long before the plan was ever laid down. All of it has order; all of it was planned for us."

There are many many more insightful quotes...and many from scripture if we but READ. =)

Hope you feel better about being a Woman in this 'lovely' world...especially after reading this book!

God bless!

Beverly Campbell has done an extraordinary job in detailing the events as they occurred in the Garden of Eden. She plumbed the depths of historical documents, the words of apostles and prophets, linguists specializing in ancient Hebrew and more to grant us a unique insight into Eve's mind and the dynamic between Mother Eve and Father Adam.

I loved this book and believe that every person worldwide should read it and fully understand the strength, love, compassion and absolute determination of the woman who walked side by side with Adam in the Garden of Eden. This is a must buy! This is the perfect addition to your religious library.

First off, let me say this is written from a Mormon (LDS) perspective/belief. It is one of the most intriguing books I have read in a long time. It took me a while to get through it as I questioned so many things written in it, concepts I've never thought of or considered. For that reason alone I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed this book so much that I purchased the second one (Mortal Journey).

Wonderful book replete with information about pug care, i.e. grooming, cleaning their facial folds and finger curling their doubly curled tails when they are still puppies.

You also get to read about training and breeding your pug and overall good dog care specific to this breed. You learn what words and short commands tend to work best for pugs and you and your pug can share in the rewards - limitless pug cuddles. You even get some humorous "pug tales" as well. What is not to love about a pug? Pugs are so lovable!

Great book! Very practical information about what pugs need as far as bathing, skin fold wiping (beware of swamp face), and other general pug hygiene. Very practical training tips, such as belly rubbing to assure your pug that you are dominant (as well as providing a delightful belly rub) and choosing useful words for training, such as "off" instead of "no jumping," so that that your pug can be praised with the same word, for example, "Good Off," which then serves as a built-in reward (and doesn't exhaust the word "No"). Interesting and funny information on pug personalities. What's not to love about a pug?

K. Robert Campbell spins a wonderful suspense yarn in "The Fifth Category"! Several times I thought I had this story figured out, but Campbell would throw in a curve ball and prove me wrong. The story is about Lawyer Cameron Scott who gets assigned a simple burglary. When his defendant turns up dead Cameron starts asking questions. This gets the attention of the wrong people. Before you know it, Cameron is involved with the FBI, iternational terrorists and a powerful category 5 hurricane. Campbell skillfully brings all these elements together for an exciting climax to his story. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to more from this talented writer!

In 1943 across the United States, necessity being the mother of invention, the manufacturing side supporting the war efforts advertises for women to fill blue-collar positions. Experience is unnecessary. The companies want women with a willingness to work harder than the men the females replace do.

In Seattle, several women accept the challenge at the Boeing airplane factory though their reasons for leaving home and taking the jobs vary. Four of these women share a home. Twenty-eight years old Amazon Annie Tosh left Coos Bay because she cannot sit still while her siblings and her fiancé Howard fight the Axis powers. Mid twenties prostitute Sparkle Melody sees this job as a second chance if she can stay away from the Johns. African-American Birdie traveled across the country to obtain work to feed her four kids. Teenager Gloria Westfall, a pampered female, whose wealthy parents want to shield from the realities of war, needs to aid the war effort n order to prove something to herself. Together this group will learn that building planes is easier than constructing healthy relationships.

THE GIRLS FROM HANGAR B is an appealing historical fiction novel that looks back at the home front during World War II through the eyes of several Rosie the Riveters. The story line uses historical tidbits to paint a relationship drama between the four lead characters as well as other people they meet on and off the jobs. Though not loaded with action, readers who delight in this character study concerning the recent American past. The audience will treasure Kristin Campbell Nailýs homage to one of the most influential periods in the womenýs rights movement.

Set in WW II Seattle, The Girls From Hangar B follows four eager, patriotic women who were selected at random to work in the factories while America's men went to war. A Scandinavian redhead; an African-American mother of four; a rich, academic young woman; and an ex-prostitute - each woman is radically different in looks and history, and each one knows nothing about building, yet each is about to begin labor on some of the most complicated machines of the era. A wonderful tale of the enduring bond between female friends, The Girls From Hangar B is a testament to the strength of the collective human spirit.

This is a great book! Mick is such an appealing amnesiac -- he's not overly worried, he's more enjoying the moment -- which makes him perfect for Annelise, who wants EVERYone to be happy and secure. Plus the little girl (Emily) is so true-to-life, not Fake-cute like a lot of kids in novels. I need to see if I've missed any other Laurie Campbell books -- this was one of the best romances (and a WONDERFUL love scene!) I've read in a long time.

I loved this book and loved the people in it -- it was such a relief that they all wound up happy together at the end!

The research is clear concerning writing workshops: They are the most effective way to teach the craft and process of writing. This being the case, they should not, contend the authors, be reserved for the upper grades. Rather, all writers-including kindergartners and older emergent writers-should have the opportunity to experience the writer's workshop.

If you are interested in incorporating a writing workshop into your kindergarten or first grade curriculum, this book will serve as an excellent starting point and guide. In addition to answering your questions, it provides nearly sixty mini-lessons as well as a year-long calendar which can serve as your framework.

In their introduction, Dierking and Jones write that "kindergartners-and emergent writers of any age-should be treated like genuine authors and taught in a manner that respects their abilities while empowering their advancements." This is not merely a flowery sentiment. The entire book flows from this belief.

In Section 1, the authors discuss in detail their framework for teaching a workshop. The three parts are: the mini-lesson (5-10 minutes), independent practice with conferencing (20-30 minutes), and sharing (5-10 minutes). Also included is a chapter on "Connecting to Parents." Here the reader will find sample parent letters, information about homework, and a discussion of student journals.

The "meat" of the book is found in Sections 2-5. Section 2 comprises operational mini-lessons. That is, direct instruction of skills related to the "management of classroom process, materials, and spaces." Section 3 concerns print awareness mini-lessons. Here readers are provided with lessons that address the mechanics of writing: punctuation, capital letters, temporary spelling, and such. In Section 4 the authors include twelve foundational mini-lessons: setting, character development, choosing a topic, etc. Section 5 is devoted to craft mini-lessons. Here the lessons focus on using transition words, active verbs, color words, compare and contrast, word choice, elaboration and so forth.

Appended are a literature list and a bibliography. The literature list contains the titles of children's books and suggestions as to which mini-lesson the book is good for modeling. would be good for modeling. The bibliography is a list of recommended professional literature. The choices are excellent and will provide the reader with a firm foundation concerning the workshop process.

Highly Recommended.

Photographed using an 8x10 Deardorff with a 5x7 reducing back, a 375mm Ilex-Calumet Caltar lens, Ilford FP4+ film and exposed by natural lighting under a 12x12 white diffusion tent... the images are and excellent example of good work done in large format.

This might be called a "biker book" by some as they read the title. Yep, it is Harley riders & enthusiasts. No bikes & no ads, just the bikers. From all walks of life. Sitting in a chair that says anything but Harley-Davidson.

Michael went to the 100 year celebration in Milwaukee and came back with images that tell the story of a cultural phenomonon. I believe this one is worth adding to the library.

I wouldn't recommend the book if I didn't think it was worthwhile. I enjoy the images. I enjoy their clarity, depth and range. The printing is good and the layout flows from page to page, inviting one to get into the images at their own pace.

Take a look and see how this one hits you. I think it is worth it.

Rather than the usual photos that are grainy & overdone, these are exquisitely sharp with detail that begs further study. From the tattoos to the skin texture to the pupils of the eyes, it is all there... open to examination and study. A book you will look at for years to come as it invites examination. This book is a must for anyone interested in the people of the "Harley Nation".

With the majority of photographers following after the image conscious push of society, Michael Pry brings stunning relief. The images are of bikers the way they are, not the way society wants to see them or the way TV sterotypes portray them. Mr. Pry's photographs transcend ordinary portrait work. The poses are spontaneous, the expressions are genuine, and the very soul of the individual is revealed. Notice the eyes of each individual and you will see that they tell a story specific to that moment and to that indvidual. To capture such depth of human dignity and personality truly requires photographic talent that is rarely seen in the photographers of today.

This book of photographs is awesome !

When I received my copy of Harley Nation I was blown away by the quality of the photographs. It's like nothing I have ever seen. I have loved viewing photographs since I was a kid and this book stands out because it is so unique and interesting. Definitely not your run of the mill landscapes and quaint towns photographs. The photographer has captured the individuals in a way that other books of portraits have not. It doesn't matter if you are a rider or not. You will enjoy this book.

I have sat down with this book many times and the experience is very much like listening to one of my favorite record albums. On an album, you can pick out a favorite lyric or musical passage and enjoy it over and over. It's the same with this book. You can view the photographs and keep finding new interesting elements of the images.

Also, every single person who has picked up this book at my house has been has said the same thing "what a neat book"

Oh just one more thing, the introduction is extremely well written and is sort of a thoughtful guide on viewing photographs of this type. After reading it you will enjoy the book more. How often does that happen?

This book deserves 5+ stars
