Reading the book for a masters level creativity class so I started out a skeptic. While much of the reading in the class has turned out to be very interesting, this book just hasn't struck any chords for me.

Some of the poeple in the class seem to appreciate it so it gets an extra star... but I'd suggest reading some of it before picking it up. If it works for ya, go for it. Otherwise, be cautious.

This is the second Julia Cameron book I have read. It is very much like Artist's Way except it is for the artist in the work place. All of Cameron's books talk about the artist within but it is for those who are looking for self. Self is what you are going to find. It is getting rid of what is unimportant and focusing in on the important making a complete and happier person. I am not quite done with this book but have devoured it and shared it as I did with her first book.

After completing the self-study program with Julia Cameron's Artist's Way ... this work-oriented book helps artistic and creative souls find a way to breath life and express their creative fire on the job. Cameron's analogy of the dragon is a dep metaphor to the fears that stop us from being our true selves. Instead of bottling up all the intense energy ... Riding The Dragon ... draws out our intensity with constructive excercies, wisdom, and a proper channel to achieve positive results. Cameron is one of the best informal writing guides for all of us with a voice were excavating.

Steele not that great....

Review Date: 2008-06-10
The first book in this series was pretty terrible. It took me a long time to come around to reading this next volume, "Luscious Craving". Since I bought the entire trilogy at once, I knew eventually I would read on. I'm kind of glad that I did. This book is considerably better then its predassessor. Candace Steele is a very unlikeable heroine. She doesn't have a great personality at all and in this book she was such a tramp! I'm no prude but Candace went to and from two men in this book in a way that was kind of gross to me. Candace is a vampire killer who works security for a casino in Las Vegas. In this entry, Candace learns of a huge con about to go down. Slowly she unravels what the plot is and who is involved. I enjoyed the flashbacks into the past of Ash, the bane of Candace's existance. She can't live with him and can't live without him. Everything in between is turmoil. The writing isn't great in either of the two stories I've read thus far. Whether its the writing style, or the lack of intrigue in the characters, I have a hard time getting pulled into the tale. The story picks up at the end when the sex stops for a minute and the action takes over. I actually became mildly engrossed at this point and as soon as that happened...the story was over. I don't have high hopes for the third and final book...but the end of this book did show that there was potential there all along and Ms. Dean obviously missed a chance to make the story really work. This book pales in comparison to the other vampire tales in the market today. There are plenty of other books more deserving the reader's precious time and money.

Ash's point of view could have been interesting...

Review Date: 2007-09-21
In Luscious Craving we get a peek into Ash's point of view in the flashbacks. This could have been an incredibly effective way to give us a better understanding of how his relationship with Candace developed and why he felt such a connection to her. Instead it was just a way to introduce another plot thread, that wasn't really all that interesting.

Since Candace is still fighting her attraction to Ash, she's off trying to "feel and not think" with some other guy. But she still manages to fit in a night of passion with Ash in between quickies. Candace doesn't kill too many other vamps here, just her evil clone, and picks up a new ally. Actually the "Vampire Killer" label is a misnomer, since her focus is her Security consultant job at a Casino and she does more chasing vamps off because the try to cheat the house, than killing them because they are bloodsuckers.

Luscious Craving was a quick, lightweight read, nothing too memorable, but since I already have the next one in the series,Eternal Hunger (Candace Steele, Vampire Killer, Book 3) I will finish the series before passing them on. These are not keeper quality, but enjoyable enough to be worth buying at the thrift store.

This book is entertainging but light. If your looking for more of a Laurell K. Hamilton style introspective work it may fall short for you. However if that's just the kind of thing you shy away from you may love this. Other reviewers are right when they say that this second installment is better than the first. The mystery is more complex(though parts are still a "duh!"), the sex scenes are hotter, and additional characters and storylines come into play. That's the good part. For me the bad part is that Candace and all of her relationships feel stilted, cold, somewhat undeveloped. I don't care enough about anyone to get that enthralled by the book.

The premise is that it's six months after the original book in the series. Candace is still working security in Vegas, Ash & she still have a disfunctional relationship full of baggage, and the casino where Candace works is about to host a huge poker tournament in the face of a possibly huge con going down. But none of the characters seems to know everything that's going on. Truthfully, Candace seems to spend most of the book between the sheets or mad. She's not the greatest slueth in the world. But like I said, it is somewhat entertaining. I just expected still more.

You do not need any other book as a companion to this workbook. It stands alone as a great resource. I have read a bunch of self help books on finding your true life's path. After about the third or fourth book they all seem to say the same thing. Get in touch with your good and bad emotions and use those emotions to help steer a course. What I liked about this workbook is it minimizes the theory and talk and gets right to the point of you doing practical exercises to discover what you really want in life. I only completed about 2/3rd of the workbook. I have spoken to other people who have used this workbook with great results. I have purchased a 2nd copy to walk through the exercises again. If you feel lost and at a dead end in your life's pursuit I think this workbook would be a great place to start.

I bought this as a supplement to the book because I was leading a class on it. It turns out the workbook is only a big version of places for people to do their exercises each week that are already part of the book. Unless you really want to have a generic journal where you write out the exercises, I recommend sticking with the book and then finding your own journal or place to do the exercises, as usually not all of them appeal to every one each week. But if you're wanting everything to match, then go ahead and buy it. Not necessary or helpful for my group, but I guess it could be for you or yours.

Review Date: 2004-07-19
Over the many years I have used Stone's Glossary as a reference, I have seldom been disappointed, but then I don't ask too much of it either. Keeping in mind the era in which it was compiled and the biases thereof, I have little difficulty extracting useful information from it when needed. There are many modern references which are more accurate, and certainly the study of arms and armour has produced more informative works. There are few that rival this work in detail of scope, however. Those which cast as broad a cultural net have fewer examples and entries, while those that are more detailed seldom have nearly as many examples from so wide an area.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone researching the era for any kind of period fiction or screenplay, especially anything dealing with the height and decline of the British Colonial Empire.

Ecclectic but broad collection of arms and armour descriptio

This eccentric collection of arms and armour descriptions began as Stone's personal glossary and progressed into the seminal work of his time. Despite its random and too often erroneous misconceptions (the man couldn't figure out how double mail was made or what it was even though he had seen it on several occasions) it offers an ecclectic smattering of the arms and armour Stone encountered during his lifetime. Read with caution, this Glossary proves to be a valuable resource to the arms and armour scholar.

Of all places at all times?

For the author's supposed fixation on 'Oriental' weaponry, he covers absolutely nothing in regards to Chinese weapons. One picture caption talks about a Japanese chain weapon "Above an unnamed Chinese weapon." The weapon that is 'unnamed' is a wind and fire wheel, much like the indian chakram, but a very popular wepaon nontheless.

His coverage of Indian, Indonesean and Japanese weapons is acceptable, but his coverage of Chinese wepaons, a very significant field as far as warfare is concerned, is lousey at best. "Of all places places at all times" isn't an accurate description by a long shot, but it's an easy reference for people looking into european weapons for certain. The fact that it was written originally in the 20s makes for a lack of up-to-date info, but again, it's an easy to use reference

I enjoyed this book even though it missed some coutries we wanted to travel to, such as Romania. It was perfect if you want to visit the major attractions and major cities. The walking tour of Auschwitz and Krakow were fantastic. The information was up-to-date and detailed (such as how to use the Hungarian baths in Budapest). We also found the restaurants to be good as well. I recommed the book if you are doing a "whirlwind" trip of Eastern Europe (ours lasted just one month and was 6 countries). For more in-depth country info, you might need a more detailed country guide.

my whirlwind "Eastern" European honeymoon
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-09
I have never written a review for Amazon before but felt compelled to write this one after returning from my honeymoon in "mostly Eastern" Europe.

As another reviewer commented, this book is not so much about Eastern Europe as it focuses on areas mostly East of Vienna but doesn't cover much beyond Hungary. However, I purchased this book prior to my trip as I had seen many positive reviews of Rick Steves' guidebooks but had never used one by him before.

First, the biggest negative - I found Rick's writing to be patronizing and borderline obnoxious. I was almost put off this book because it was difficult to slog past his cynical humor and get to the meat of the matter.

However, this book still gets 4-stars because time and time again, my husband and I found valuable tips and information within this guidebook. We carried this one around with us and pored over it at cafes while the other books languished back in the hotel room. It is now dog-eared and travel-worn and will become a great addition to our honeymoon memorabilia.

Rick's book is full of highly accurate insider travel tips on everything from public transportation, to how to negotiate some tricky situations, to how to take advantage of great deals while avoiding the shady ones.

Bottom line is that if you can manage to get past the self-important tone of Rick's writing, you will find a treasure trove of information in this book.

Stella shoots straight from the hip and tells it like it is! If you want a mushy plot and unrealistic, flowery speech, then this is not the book for you. However, if you enjoy a story that has some grit and edge, along with characters that have depth, you'll enjoy this novel. Stella certainly has a gift for creating interesting characters and realistic dialogue.

Stella does not write of tame events or mild emotions. The sex is explicit and some times edges into the kinky. If you are looking for a "sweet" read, look elsewhere. If you like a twisted plot, strong, multi-dimensional characters, and a gripping story, I highly recommend this book!

When I read The Best Revenge, it kind of confused me. The two main characters were always talking about this money that was stolen. When some progess was made, the money thing came back. The heroine never trusted the hero.

There was also a lot of sex from people who were not the main characters. it wasn't romance because the people didn't love or even like eachother. It was just a way of munipulating people for other needs. I thought it was just trashy and unneeded. It was written to give some cheap thrills, but it just grossed me out. I think the book would have done just find without those scenes.

I could not tell how or why the two main characters, Dallas and Rae, felt about eachother. They talked in circles. it got really annoying. I don't recommend this book to anyone. Stella Cameron really disappointed me.

I first read this book when I was about 12 or 13 years old. I found it to be a beautiful and mysterious book with just enough strangeness to make me want to read it again and again. Well when I got older I found a used copy and decided I didn't want to be without it because it impacted me like few books had, and as a kid I read alot! It will give you an imagination if you don't have one, and if you do have one, it'll fire it up all the more. I love it. I still pull it out and read it on occassion, usually in one sitting. The 'person' who gave it a one star rating is probably used to Ren & Stimpy...

I read this book over and over again starting at age 10 when I first discovered it. There was something magical and intriguing about the story of a girl who comes across a ghost in a museum, and then learns about her past (so different from today) over the course of several meetings. There is a mysterious quality to the book, and always the feeling that something this magical might happen to any child at the right time in the right place. This is one of the stories I most strongly remember falling in love with as a child-- some 30 years later, it still sticks with me.

My son brought this book home from the school library and while he enjoyed it, I was completely hooked. As I kid I loved books that gave me places to wander around and get lost in--The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankwiler comes to mind. This museum is much smaller, but gives readers a glimpse into what running a museum is like, and the magical atmosphere that can be created amid all the bits and pieces of the past. In this case, the "magic" is more than atmospheric, and the characters are an eclectic mix. After the book went back to the library, I ordered a copy for myself.

The Sitepoint guys have great articles on their site and emails but I found this book very difficult to read. It didnt seem that the examples made sense, or flowed together to make sense.

As Im pretty new to JS, adding that to my php work, I really had a difficult time understanding all the syntax - and that is made more difficult by now having clear, easy to follow examples.

I cant and wont say that I wouldnt recommend this book because its not a bad book, I just feel that if you are as new to JS as I am, this might not be the best book to start with.

Excellent resource for learning JavaScript

Review Date: 2008-01-05
I've been exposed to very little JavaScript, so I was very happy to get a review copy of this sent to me. First off, I'm a big fan of SitePoint's other books, and secondly I was looking forward to a book which would hopefully give me some good ground-up fundamentals. I'm not completely through the book yet, but I'm very impressed with it so far.

The book starts out with some good software design tenets by emphasizing the need to keep content, style, and behavior separated out, then moves into some very basic steps for programming in JavaScript. The programming intro chapter starts out completely for beginners by laying out what variables are, what conditions and loops are, etc. Later chapters hit the DOM, JavaScript libraries, events, debugging, Ajax, and a few other topics.

The authors do a very good job of laying out their topics, and I enjoyed their clear, enjoyable writing style. I think they do a pretty good job of discussing good development, and they're all over things like browser compatibility issues and other "Gotcha!" type issues. They've got a nice set of sidebars for tricks and tips as well as things to look out for.

I also like that it's another SitePoint book with loads of color throughout. I'm not sure how SitePoint does it, but their continuing journey with all the color books is absolutely great to behold.

On the downside, I'm not a fan of some of the example code I saw, which in several cases was more convoluted than good design would dictate (multiple nested for loops, return statements from other method calls being used as return values themselves, etc.). I also would have liked to see some discussion of testing via tools like Selenium or JsUnit.

Overall I really like the book a lot. They talk standards, they talk cool tools like FireBug, they make some headway with good decisions about separation of code, content, and style.

I knew I was going to be blessed by this book the moment I picked it up; and I was not disappointed. The Spiritual Millionaire is packed full of true wisdom that will enhance anyone's life, and help them to achieve their desired results in their life quests.

The author gently explains to you about wisdom and teaches you how to recognize and follow the leading that is nudging you towards success. He does this by helping you to understand the workings of your mind, or thought life, your desires, and helping you to see the vision that the Lord has for you. Once you see and understand that, you can reach for the stars and continue to climb. If you have Spiritual wisdom, there is no limit to your future; questions asked and answers given help to establish an understanding of what to do and how to achieve your goal.
This work is very reader friendly, easy to understand and quite uplifting. It is full of hope and encouragement for a better tomorrow. Well worth your time and attention.

This is not a particuarly interesting entry in the crowded field of spiritual abundance. Blessedly short, it is devoid of any practical exercises or original insights. The author introduces each chapter with the same verse of a psalm on wisdom and shares his dry perceptions in each chapter.

If you are interested in a spiritual approach with a strong Biblical flavor, you would be better served by Catherine Ponder books. If you are interested in a non-denominational approach, check out the Abraham series by Esther and Jerry Hicks or versions thereof by Joe Vitale (Attractor Factor) or Lynn Grabhorn (Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting). Each of these provides a stimulating look at abundance and manifestation and is chock-full of practical exercises and suggestions.

In the quest to earn a comfortable living, enough to provide for the self and the family well after retirement or passing, The Spiritual Millionaire demonstrates how to tap into spiritual wisdom to enhance personal productivity and success. Chapters address the value of prayer and meditation to stabilizing one's frame of mind, the power of love as a motivating force to earn success, how all things are possible to all people, the values of enthusiasm and perseverance, and much more. A morale-boosting and spiritually reassuring guide.

This worthless book on "how to get rich and quick" follows the close proximity of info-mercials which permeate the late nite, most, if not all, are insane scams geared towards desperate people without income by shoody investment deals. This book, which attempts to be "spiritual", not only is complete nonsense, since it equates being rich with "wisdom" but it is filled by the author's egomania. Most of the reviews here were written by the author's press team, which only gave it positive reviews but since I am here to speak the truth, I'll give it a thumbs down. I can't believe that Americans are buying this (bleep) up.

This book has the solutions for the material presented in the book. The book has helped me alot. The only think I don't like about it, is that the book has to many practice exercises and too many pages.

With the sixth edition of this textbook, Sullivan has made significant strides since the fifth edition of the College Algebra portion. The interval notations used to indicate the regions where the value of a function is increasing or decreasing is so much more clear and concise. In contrast to the former use of frequently displaying number lines with pluses and minuses underneath, in which the readings of them were perhaps more of an exercise for the eyes than for the mind, Sullivan revised this mess using parentheses and brackets to indicate test intervals.

As a teacher, I say that this is not the most user-friendly book for an instructor who teaches one hour college algebra classes three times a week. Oftentimes, for me to quickly get the fundamentals across, I have to paraphrase what Sullivan lays out in many of the sections. The language is often too theoretical for several of my students (Many are in non-technical majors but have to complete college algebra as a last mathematics course requirement), and I have to put the symbolic logic sequences into terms that can cross over to applied mathematics. This is not meant to be a criticism, however.

Perhaps the main weaknesses lie in the shortcomings of applied problems, particularly in the sections concerning maxima and minima, and especially in the inequality segments. On a very positive note, however, I will grant that the sixth chapter, which involves logarithms and exponents is quite fascinating. For instance, you have applied problems involving the amount of interest that can be gained after so many years if, say, [money amount]is deposited into an account and accumulates interest at 6% compounded quarterly. Physics problems are also well presented. One interesting tidbit: if you wondered how long it would take for a 300-degree dish to cool down to 100 degrees in an environment that is at room temperature, the formula that can be used, namely Newton's Law of Cooling, is provided. As another example: suppose that a dead animal was discovered in a barn at midnight and its temperature was 80°F° ; the temperature of the barn is kept constant at 60°F; two hours later the temperature of the corpse dropped to 75°F; find the time of death. The formula for this type of problem is also shown.

As added kudos, I especially like the intermittent TI-83 calculator tips. The use of technology in mathematics classes is notably increasing in the community colleges. All in all, this is a finer, more updated version, and it is especially recommended for those who want to go beyond the call of duty and discover new ways of applying mathematics to their daily lives.

This is an excellent book - period

I am 55 years old and promised myself that when I became financially able I would relearn Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Calculus I, II,III & IV and ODE skills from start to finish. I am now finished with Sullivan's book I have found the book easy to read and understand. The presenation of the material is well thought out and the abundance of practice problems invaluable. If you are serious about math then this is a great book.

1)Michael Sullivan (Sr.) is one of the four or five best writers
of math textbooks on today's scene. If you can find a textbook written by him that fits whatever current math course you are in
buy the book sight unseen. You will be more than happy that you
did.
2)As far as this book is concerned, I used it from chapter 1 to the end (every section of every chapter) and did every problem in
the book. I did not have an instructor and I was not enrolled in a course. I used the book to brush up for calculus after being out of school for 20 years.
3)This book is great for a course in college algebra, trigonometry, or precalculus. It serves all three purposes. I know this because after I finished the text and began studying
calculus, on my own, I was really able to appreciate how well
Sullivan's book prepared me for calculus.
4)The explanations of each concept are clear, not more rigorous
than is appropriate for a student at the level of the textbook,
but certainly not dumbed down.
5)The problems and questions are well written, comprehensive, and
most importantly, instructive. I found that the best question I
could ask myself about every problem in the book was "now what is
Sullivan trying to get me to see by doing this problem or answering this question". I mention this because this is what Sullivan is really good at; he doesn't spoon feed you.
6)Look, we all want essentially the same things from a textbook.
We want clearly written, well illustrated worked out problems
that allow us to grasp the concept in question so that we can use
it to solve problems and answer conceptual questions. With Sullivan, you get this in great measure.
This is a wonderful textbook for both sudents and teachers. It is
a great book to learn from and a great book to learn to teach from.

The information listed in the "Product Details" section for this book is very misleading. As noted in the other comments, this book is the paperback Student Solutions Manual. It is NOT a hardcover book and the ISBN number is not ISBN: 0130914657 (as listed in the product detail section). This book may prove to be helpful but it was not the book I thought I ordered.
