My book is Eye of the Hurricane. Now I am going to tell you about my favorite part and what it is about. My favorite part of Eye of the Hurricane was when they did the lesson of the water. It taught me to understand the empty mind. My 2nd favorite part was when the instructor old the story about the hungry tigers. It taught me that you need to clear your mind to have an empty mind. This book was about understanding the empty mind and empty self. It tells you many different ways to understand them. Also, it told a great martial art adventure. This book was the best book about martial arts I've ever read.

If you love crime/mystery books... prepare to be spellbound. I love this book.
It was recommended to me along with the information that this great crime book "is impossible to make into a film." If you think Hollywood can do 'anything' with a book, read this and understand why it couldn't bring this to the screen. It's all in the pages that you will want to turn faster and faster.
This book is proof that movies can never surpass the art of novel writing.
P.S. The author on the cover, Cameron McCabe, is actually the name of the main character in the book. Adds to the intrigue.

This book was extremely helful to me. I was looking for information on holding training meetings, and conference calls and how to make them the most beneficial they could be. This book covered everything from research prior to the meeting to debriefing after the meeting. I will continue to use it as long as I am holding these types of meetings.

My first foray into Brain Wood's writing was through DMZ, the monthly ongoing series featuring a fictional civil war in the states. The brilliant mixture of good action and characterization, and the whole idea of America having another civil war, drew me in. In fact, I think it's one of the most fresh and creative comic series out there.
We see lots of the same creative energy here in Fight for Tomorrow, a mini-series that pretty much no one talked about. But I must say it's one not to be missed.
The story focuses around a character named Cedric Zhang, a buddhist who was raised as a fighter for underground fights where people regularly show up and bet on the fighters involved. He leads a pretty tough life, getting beat up almost every other day. But he finds strength in her girlfriend named Christy who was also in the same regime as Cedric.
Turns out Christy goes missing and Cedric has to find her, and along the way try to find himself. It's a heartfelt story of the everyman essentially and it's a very good one at that.
The writing's very creative, and it doesn't really feel like a normal run-of-the-mill story. Brian's characters feel very human and they often jump out of the page and start to live in your mind, that's due to the realistic dialogue and also the motivations of the characters. I think he's taken a very flawed character like Cedric and made us sympathise with his struggles and dilemmas, which is great. If anyone wants to know how to do great characterization in a story, I highly recommend this book.
With that said, I was surprised at the twist ending. Something in me didn't agree with how the story ended, but I don't see that as a flaw at all. Just like in real life, other people and situations in general don't always end up the way you want them to. But you accept it nonetheless. Fight for Tomorrow, like most other works from Wood, is very thought provoking in that regard and as a result feels very real and very much like a good movie or a good TV series where you come off feeling like you've just learned something important. That's why I think this book should get more rep out there; it's one of the most important comic series I've ever read.

*Webster-Doyle's insight is that by recognizing, understanding, and accepting our violent tendencies, we can avoid acting them out. These books . . . are good for teachers and parents of elementary school children who need appropriate language and activities to help children deal with their feelings and the violence-provoking parts of the environment. To this reviewer, they are realistic and practical."

Cameron's approach beats the other guidebooks in its up to date assessment of the country's politics and history as it relates to each of the regions you plan on visiting. Relevant sidebar info is sprinkled throughout the book to provide the reader with something other than the usual monotonous listings of hotels, restarants, and places to visit--though she knows her stuff here as well. This book is the most currently published of all the other titles out there.

I just picked this up and am headed to St Lucia next week (will update after I return). After getting this book, the Insight guide, and the Rough guide (which is anything but rough) I like this best. It's throw-in-your pocket small, chock full of info, and every page I open, I find things I want to do, and enough instruction on how to go about doing it. It has nice maps, and things seem well organized by topic (nice notable for parents- kids section). The top 10 list of things to do peaked my interest: every one of the items sound GREAT. I think this book is more tumed to the active traveller that really wants to get out and see their destination. I gave this 5 stars because it's the best guide I have for getting around, but it is lacking pictures, of which it only has a few. No big deal, I'll take my own :)
