I really liked this book. Amy E. Butler expertly deals with the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) and two of the more important
figures in the early ERA debate. Many books I have read on the subject deal with the ERA broadly and do not focus on individuals,
so I really found this book useful. It shows the different sides to the debate and what the two women believed/thought. A
great book for anyone interested in the topic.

Ona Siporin has an uncommon knack for both storytelling and graceful language. Her graceful prose style hints at the poetic
and her personal involvent with her characters is such that you will know these women and feel their lives. Her style is engaging
and personal. I recommend this book to women everywhere and to men who ought to think twice about showing women anything but
admiration.

This is beautiful, colorful picture book that is great for children around 2 to 6. www.suesbooks.info They love looking at
pictures and having it read to them. It is sturdy and a great discovery book. Older children will love the "Great Undersea
Search" full of things to spot under the sea. Great educational stuff and it's fun.

This is history at its best. Butler's work discusses the emergent class and ethnic tensions in a industrial midwestern town
and situates its history in the larger patterns of change across America. Butler's style and writing has a flare and a richness
unique in historical accounts of this sort--I could not put the book down! Butler has style!

The four dimensions of people skills in business

Timothy Butler is a Research Fellow and the Director of Career Development Programs at Harvard Business School. James Waldroop
is a Founding Principal of Peregrine Partners, a consulting firm in Brookline, Massachusetts, that specializes in executive
development and employee retention. This article was published in the June 2004 edition of Harvard Business Review.
This article is based on extensive research on the people side of doing business, or which the authors call the relational factor. Based on analysis of more than 7,000 psychological tests of business professionals, Butler and Waldroop identified four distinct dimensions of relational work: (1) Influence; (2) interpersonal facilitation; (3) relational creativity; and (4) team leadership. The authors explain "each component and show how knowledge of all four can help managers hire the right employees, make the best work assignments, reward performance and promote career development (others' and their own)." Professionals who earn a high score in the influence dimension enjoy developing and extending their sphere of interpersonal influence. "This dimension is all about changing the point of view or the behaviour of others." Individuals with high scores in the interpersonal facilitation dimension are keenly attuned to the interpersonal aspects of a work situation. "They intuitively focus on others' experiences and usually work quietly behind the scenes to keep their colleagues committed and engaged so that projects don't get derailed." At its core, the relational creativity dimension is about forging connections with groups of people through visual and verbal imagery. Unlike in the influence dimension, "people talented at relational creativity use images and words to arouse emotions and create relationships with groups." Individuals who score high in the team leadership dimension need to see and interact with other people very frequently to feel satisfied. "The difference between individuals who score high in team leadership and those who do so in the influence dimension is their interest in managing people." The authors provide advice on how to keep these four dimensions in mind when hiring new employees, assigning tasks, rewarding employees, and developing the people in your organization. The authors introduce a handy graph for matching functions with interests. There is also some good advice on how to improve on each of these dimensions. But the authors note that "you also need to be honest with yourself."
Yes, nice article on the softer dimensions in business. Although these dimensions are more fashionable now, they are still very often overseen in business. The authors discuss each dimension in detail and have some good examples on how to use these dimensions in practice and in different situations. As the authors conclude, "... remember that a business strategy is only as good as the people who carry it out - and if no one is around to carry it out, your future does not look good." Highly recommended to managers and people new to management.

A member of my family gave the book to me. I was young at the time and did not know its value. I found it 2 years later and
looked through it. I discovered that my copy was over 150 years old. Inside you see that it was typed on a type writer. Ther
was a 2 page picture on every other page. The pictures were all in a blu shade. The original owner of the book loved to look
at a page that features the Great Lion. It was faded the most. Each page is full of pictures and if I can not sleep then I
will look at the stars and match the stars with the pictures.

Urban Drainage - Worth Every Penny

Review Date: 2001-03-12
Review Date: 2001-03-12
This textbook covers the environmental and engineering aspects involved in the drainage of rainwater and wastewater from
areas of human development, providing a descriptive overview of the complex issues involved, basic engineering principles,
and analysis for each topic. Extensive examples are used to support and demonstrate the key issues explained in the text.
Urban drainage deals comprehensively not only with the design of new systems, but also the analysis and upgrading of existing
infrastructure, and the environmental issues involved. Urban Drainage is an essential text for undergraduate and postgraduate
students, lecturers and researchers in the civil engineering fields of water engineering, environmental engineering, public
health engineering, engineering hydrology, and related non-engineering disciplines. It will also be a useful reference for
drainage design and drainage operation engineers in local authorities and the water utilities, and for consulting engineers.
The only drawback is that as it is so up-to-date and practice based out will become outdated soon... but then there will be the 2nd Edition!

The collection opens with a wryly humorous piece by up-and-coming author Ian Creasey. It's too short to showcase his abilities, but does make good use of the first person narrator's 'closed world', leaving the reader with a sense of the narrator's unreliability, without being able to prove anything.
The next story, America is Coming! by Dario Ciriello, is easily my favourite of this collection. Although the narrative tapers off a bit at the end, the opening throws the reader into a fantastic end-of-world scenario, where the American continent is literally chewing up Europe, and the only way to escape is, ironically, to risk an almost-suicidal voyage to the relative safety of the destroyer's shores. Imaginative and engaging, this story is worth the collection price on its own.
It isn't all fun and imagination, however. Jeff Parish's That Ain't a Mosey stands out for being a routine zombie story, set in the American West. No departures here from convention, I'm afraid, and the story walks an uneasy line between the truly global--America is Coming!--and the very personal--Final Episode (by Katherine Shaw). Is the possible end of the American West truly the End of Time? You decide!
I enjoyed this collection, and what pleased me particularly was the variety of takes on the theme. No two stories are alike; no two authors have approached the theme from the same direction. Well worth a read.
