Through journal entries and photographs, as well as a mother's narrative, the reader gets such a vivd dexcription of the young
man, that he seems like someone anyone would love and value as a friend. The author lets him tell his story as she tells
her own. The things that daunted him are understandable; his humor and intelligence and self-deprecation shine, making
his sensitivity graspable. This is an even-handed and full narrative about a tragedy that is as readable as it is sad.
It would help anyone who has gone through, or been threatened by, a suicide - a tribute both to the boy, and the people
who tried to protect, and then have to live with, a life in peril and then cut short. Neither understated nor self-indulgent,
the book made me think about our society, particularly about the 'college days' that we are encouraged to blandly accept
as a normal part of life, but that for many young adults are an uncotrolled mess, lacking in adult guidance and any path
to dignity.

The Fortunes of Faust is the third in a series of works on the evolution of the Faust tradition. As a librarian who is an
avid reader and collector of Faustian lore and works written about this "historical character," I have found in Ms. Butler's
work a most provocative and scholarly study. Her writing style is clear and studied. She takes the readers through the evolution
of the Faust tradition and its roots in the practice of magic. Ms. Butler provides details that even this student of Faust
found informative - whether it is her insights about the Spiess' Urfaustbook and the German Faust, thoughts on Martin Luther,
the variety of hybrid and miscellaneous Fausts up through Goethe's Faust among others. The author views Marlowe's Fautus
"the greatest of all the tragic versions the legend has inspired." The Fortunes of Faust is a compelling drama of the role
of magic in history through the character of Faust. This is a fascinating read especially for anyone with an interest in
the Faust legend

I liked this book because it explained difficult micro concepts in an understandable fashion. I liked the illustrations in
the book and the parasitic microbes was most interesting. I also found the following which I got on amazon outstanding:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
isbn - 0971999635
This study guide helped me study for my college exams because these questions were the kind my teacher asked. Both books are very good, I'm glad I used them. I passed the my micro class with ease.

There are many things we must thank Richard Ellmann for. First of all, his poetry anthologies. Second, his biographies on
Wilde, Yeats and Joyce. And finally, this short, delightful, easy-reading book. Four conferences about the best Irish writers
ever: Wilde, Yeats, Joyce and Beckett. And the four are masterpieces. They do not talk about the "common places" you are
suppossed to here while being in a conference, they try to express a fact, a situation, a place that defines the person they
are talking about: Wilde in Oxford, Yeats in his "old age", Joyce and his anxiety looking for facts to write about, Beckett
and Naught. I think that everyone interested on these authors should read the book.

Humphreys' biography of Simkins is the first scholarly treatment of one of the most influential southern historians. A full
and complete treatment of this often misunderstood man, Humphreys' book effectively traces the path of Simkins from innovative
young scholar on the cutting edge of historical scholarship to the older, reactionary professor most often remembered. In
the book, Humphreys deftly guides readers through the changes in Simkins' outlook, but most importantly, through the changes
in the historical profession and broader world that helped cast Simkins as the profession's greatest "misfit."

Today I had the honor of traveling to Louisville, Kentucky and viewing the Frederick Hart exhibit "Giving Form To Spirit"
and all I can say is the late Mr. Hart was surely among the most profoundly talented sculptors to live in our times. For his
work on the Vietnam Memorial, the National Cathedral, and for his careful crafting of scores of more intimate pieces, Hart
touched the human soul even as he dazzled the human mind. After seeing more than a hundred of his works in person, I can tell
you that the level of artistry present in the photographs inside The Complete Works does justice to Frederick Hart's physical
sculptures. It is an impressive collection that pays homage to a great talent, and even at a steep seventy-dollars is absolutely
worth adding to your home library.

Lots of fun family and amusing friendships to go along with the romantic angle. I really enjoyed the small-town feel of the
setting. The characters are believable, flawed, and loveable.
