A Great Creepy Story!

Review Date: 2002-10-21
You have to read this wonderful book! I would recommend it for anyone who

likes scary stories. I also think you will enjoy this creepy book if you like spooky

surprises. This story has a very old woman who is claimed to be a witch who's still alive

and kicking!

This story is great because it tells about a handicapped girl doing things she likes

to do, and trying to ignore the fact that she lives in a haunted house once owned by the

witch. ... This story is really spine chilling! The one thing I will not

recommend is to read this book before bedtime especially if you get nightmares. This book

has sneaky surprises on every page and it's hard to fall asleep! If I had to rate this book

I'd give it five stars ***** ! It is one of the best books I've read all year .

A truly wonderful book!

I belive this book is an extremly great book that is easy to get into! Beverly Butler did an outstanding job on writing this book! The wording was great! Kirsty is quite the hero in this book, she goes through alot of anger and sadness, and Beverly wrote well enough to actually make you feel her anger towards life. I highly recommend it!

Even I can handle this!

Review Date: 1999-09-07
This is a book you should read even if you are not overly concerned with or involved in Y2K issues.

With humor, and a down-to-earth understandable style, the authors have produced a comprehensive guide to help you understand your computer, your computer-dependent life, and the interconnectedness of today's global marketplace.

Whatever your role, this is the book that can guide you and prepare you for the glitches that may appear in every phase of your life throughout the next several years. I now feel confident that even I can handle the potential problems and, even better, be prepared and minimize those problems.

The explanations, glossary, calendar and checklist are great - and the cross-referenced data in every category. THANK YOU. I'm going to visit your Website.

Do-It-Now Checklist A Boon To Procrastinators

For those of us who simply don't have the time or the desire to know everything we probably should about Y2K, this book is a God-send. The book is so well- indexed anybody can easily find information quickly, but for all you fellow procrastinators, just go to the Do It Now Checklist where you'll find all the different aspects of your life and business that might be exposed. When you've identified a potential problem area, you'll be given the specific chapter that deals with the problem. You get to the heart of the issue amost immediately without wading through minutia. It's almost like pushing a button. It wasn't supposed to be that easy. Amen!

An important debate in the modern world is that between evolutionism and creationism. Evolutionism explains the reality, ethics, and knowledge by a gigantic explosion out of nothing 13.5 billion years ago. Creationism explains these important matters by the sovereign action of the rational, all powerful Creator.

This book demolishes a compromised Christian position known as the framework hypothesis. The author explains the position and then takes it apart piece by piece. He also provides helpful exegetical evidence for the historic six day creation view.

If the framework hypothesis seems valid to you, check out this book. You will find that it is full of holes.

Important critique of the Framework Hypothesis

This is a very able analysis of the Framework Hypothesis, and an excellent defense of a literal, six day creation viewpoint. Butler and Gentry provide a very academic but accessible study of the popular Framework Hypothesis.

The Framework Hypothesis attempts to show from Scripture that Moses was not interested in chronology when he penned Genesis 1. Rather he was simply showing how God was the Creator. Moses (they say) expressed himself in a six day framework to simply organize his material, not to GOVERN it.

The Framework Hypothesis is thoroughly blown out of the water by the authors. You really need this book, if you are studying the doctrine of Creation from a biblical perspective.

Very nice compilation, especially regarding prose!

This is an excellent book, produced with excellent quality. While it isn't the most complete anthology in the world as far as his poems are concerned (for this reason The Collected Works of W.B. Yeats Volume I by Finneran is a much better choice), the prose found within the book are excellent. Another thing worth noting is the lengthily essays by other well known authors which tend to either be criticisms or praise for Mr. Yeats, truly magnificent in that department! Again, the focus of this anthology is much different from other supremely divine works (such as the one previously mentioned).

Another fine edition of the works of a great poet

There are by this time many collections of the works of Yeats, and this is one of the good ones. Aside from containing the major plays and poems it has critical essays by contemporaries of Yeats and important critical voices of our own time, such as Helen Vendler, Harold Bloom, and the poet Seamus Heaney.
As for the work itself, however historically important the plays, and however of curiosity value 'The Autobiography' and other prose writings the Yeats that lives is in the poetry.
It is that lyrical greatness the power of song manifested early on which later was deepened into even greater poetry. From 'Innisfee' and "Song of the Wandering Aengus ' to the poetry of 'Byzantium' and 'Among the Schoolchildren'.
The great lines, a small sample of which follows"

And we will wander hand in hand / through hollow lands and hily lands/
And pluck till time and times are done/ The silver apples of the moon/ The golden apples of the sun/

"We must lie down where all the ladders start/ in the foul rag and bone shop of the heart."

" The best lack all conviction, and the worst are full of passionate intensity"

"But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you/ and loved the sorrows of your changing face."

Some say that the Abbess is the female counterpart of M.G. Lewis' Monk. Indeed, the plot revolves around a wicked Abbess, hungry for sex and vengeance. A young Spaniard is tortured by the Inquisition (Ireland provides very lengthy descriptions of tortute) because he refuses to be the Abbess' lover.
This is one of the rare jewels of the gothic genre with endless descents into the gloomy subterranean passages of a convent, love scenes in secluded chapels and countless descriptions of the cruelty of Catholicism.
Ireland stands very much apart from the hundreds of anonymous authors of trade gothics and penny dreadfuls of the times. The particularity of his work lies in his obsession with Shakespeare. The Abbess is strewn with numerous quotations from Shakespeare which offers an original perspective for interpreting the gothic genre and shows how far in history its roots descend.

Lindsay Lohan's debut on an audio book is superb! The Abbie Girl Spy series features a brilliant young heroine for today's youth. The mystery is intriguing and quite a page turner. If parents are looking for an excellent series for their daughter, look no further. I have also read the other books in the series and can highly recommend them!

My daughters love this book! They are 6 and 4 and this book has been a terrific tool to teach both the alphabet and Bible stories. The illustrations are vivid and fun, and the stories about Bible characters have been interesting and engaging to them. Ask them what 'A' is for, and they'll tell you "Adam!"
