Mr. Tiefer admits that he is a lawyer, hence no one should be surprised when I say that he writes like one. In the fine tradition of legal briefs the world over, the style is dry, dry, dry. No Al Franken, this man. However, the information is important, well researched, and dead on the mark. Mr. Tiefer manages to lift the curtain on the current administration so well, that the last chapter of this book will chill you when you realize that it was written a year ago.

If you're tired of books that make accusations without presenting proof, then this is the book for you. Tiefer provides an in-depth analysis of the subversive nature and the Bush administration and especially John Ashcroft - attacks on the reproductive choices of women and the subjugation of our 4th amendment rights to name two of the issues addressed in the book. The implications of this book are chilling and I believe any intelligent person who reads it can't do anything but vote against Bush on November 2nd.

There have been quite a lot of books this year attempting to breach the Bush battlements, but this one, by its calm and meticulous depiction and documentation, does the job in low key but chilling fashion. No screaming salvos, simply a quiet indictment that adds up by the end of the book to a funereal snapshot of the stealth right, the Bush agenda in the shadows, and the peril for the future given the current conservative momentum. The effect is made steady handed by the depth of the authors experience in government, and the result is a verdict, more than an Op Ed soundbite attack. One of the best of the bunch, and a good antidote to such other similarly themed books such as The Right Nation.

I read this book as a child and have never forgotten it. It is simple but entertaining reading for any child (or adult) that is an animal lover. I am so glad to find it so my Granddaughter will be able to read it too.

A true story of how this girl grew up on a station in Australia surrounded by dogs, horses, goannas and other creatures, with a native girl for a playmate and a fear of being sent away to school. Her golden half-dingo dog Ajax is a pup at the start and grows up with a fiercely protective love of his owner. They encounter floods, snakes and other dangers. The other half of the tale is 'Tam the Untamed' about her wild white stallion which became the model for 'Brumby'.

I saw a Sam Bush video online and wanted to get more into his style and approach to the mandolin... I've been playing the mandolin less than a year, but after many years of playing around on a guitar... I found the video to be a good next step... Though it may be a little advanced for the beginner, if you have the basic's of mandolin playing down, you should find this video very useful in expanding your musical knowledge.

Good for the finer points...

This video is best for those that already have a pretty good understanding of how to play the mandolin.

Like most instrument instructional videos that I have seen, this one starts out with tuning, and a brief explanation of how to tune the instrument. The pace picks up rapidly from there, jumping right into the songs. The real meat of the video comes from Sam showing you different picking, phrasing, and note selections based on the styles of true mandolin giants like Bill Monroe, and even Mr. Bush himself, on the same song.

If you are a stickler for little details, you will notice that the notes in the included music/tablature do not always follow exactly what Sam is playing, but that is part of the fun of learning to play this style of music.

My only small gripe about the video is that there is no real explanation of the theory behind the styles that Sam is showing you how to play. The video is literally Sam playing the song full speed, slowing it down and taking each song part by part, and then playing it again in a different style.

All in all, I really enjoyed and learned a lot from the video, but again, if you are not a proficient mandolin player, you will probably be better served by getting either: DVD- The Sam Bush Mandolin Methodor Essential Techniques for Mandolin

Enjoy!

Disclaimer -- I know the author, personally, so I was excited to read this tome on Bush. The style is crisp, well-laid out, and generally well-supported by factual references. Clearly the issues and contentions the Author makes can be viewed as a depressing view of American Politics in general, but more about how unfortunate we, as a Nation, are, to have such incompetent leadership for so long.

It is definitely worth reading, to gain greater insights to who and what has really been guiding the nation these past 7+ years

I had an opportunity to review Jim Swanson's brilliant political commentary "The Bush League of Nations" during its writing. Jim is co-author with me (Michael "Mike" L. Baird) of our 15-year best-selling book
Engineering Your Start-Up: A Guide for the High-Tech Entrepreneur (2nd Edition), Professional Publications, Inc. at eysu d o t org. I knew from that experience that Jim had an astounding ability to write clearly and with high impact. "The Bush League of Nations" captures all of those qualities of the author, and is notable for its clearness, completeness, and consistency - the research embodied in this book is unrivaled. Written in a well-structured way, with numerous "sidebar" anecdotes, this book is easy to consume. Pro-Bush or anti-Bush, the reader will have to be impressed with James Swanson's grasp of the big picture. Historians writing about the impact of the Bush presidency in completely destroying the reputation of the United States worldwide, and in transforming what the GOP party once stood for, should refer to this unique tome on evil and unrestrained power.

More anti-Bush than pro-ennvironment

As much as I'm inclined to do so, I can't really attack this book. In fact, its a pretty good attempt to delineate the many ways in which president Bush is selling America's environment right out from under our feet, not that we really need a book to tell us that. I essentially agree with every claim the author makes: that the White House encourages lawsuits against the government as a way of weakening policy, that Bush appoints like-minded anti-regulatory staff to head up the major environmental departments, and that the president is doing everything he can to pave the way for exploitation of America's last pristine wildernesses.

What I really don't agree with is the author's reading of Bush's motives. It's fairly vogue among the left just now to paint the president in the most cynical and self-serving terms. But that isn't quite the case. I'm no Bush fan, but it ought to be obvious to even the crudest observer that the president has more weighing on him than merely the demands of the fatcat lobby, which is what Devine seems to imply. In addition, I think Devine adopts a tone of desperation, as though this may just be America's last hurrah. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In numerous ways, the Bush years will only further the liberal cause. Sure, the president's agenda is frightening. But he's such a poor administrator that he has no idea how to achieve it. From both a liberal and a conservative perspective, the Bush presidency will prove to be a flop, simply because of the president's lack of ability. The environment will be fine, and so will the rest of us.

A Stunning Indictment

The title says most of what you need to know. But unlike many political works, it does not simply focus on "Bush-bashing", but rather looks at the report card for the current administration (at least up to summer 2004). Mr. Devine does point out that there are some successes by Bush et. al., but brings an environmental reporter's skill in digging into the minutae of all the reports, good and bad.

And what he finds is truely terrifying if you enjoy clean air and water. Rolling back the last few decades worth of environmental protections and progress, the Bush administration seems to be more interested in the quick, short-term buck than future health of people and well being of the planet. I know that sentence, ending with "the well being of the planet", seems to sound extreme, but it applies. As Mr. Devine shows, many of the cronies that are in high-ranking spots seem to think that there is no connections in the environment and that one species exists in a vacuum related to the rest.

I taught biology and environmental science for 10 years, and I knew there was reason to worry about what was going on in Washington D.C. by 2004. This book provides a clear and well done explaination why; not just on the face of what I knew from science journals, but also into the machenations of the White House and its finatial doners.

A follow-up to the author's "The Wolf Shall Dwell With the Lamb" this volume picks up on the earlier work and presents helpful techniques for those who work with peoples from varying cultural backgrounds, particularly when there is conflict or misunderstanding between groups. An earlier review is apparently written by a reader who assumes that anyone who has a differing background is inferior -- this is exactly the mindset that is counter-productive when working among diverse cultures. I would highly recommend the readers begin with the earlier work as it is referenced extensively in this volume.

Real-Life Horror as Humor

This book has a funny cover, and lots of stories that would be funny if they weren't true. But the stories are true, and that makes this a collection of horror stories starring an incredibly inept President and featuring many examples of government largesse and waste.

This is a great book to give to someone who's a staunch Republican. You can then have them turn the pages and try to justify why the events reported on any of those pages are helpful or intelligent.

Horrifying.

This was an interesting book that I liked a lot. There are two main characters who are kids: KC, the President's step-daughter, and Marshall, who lives in an apartment building near the Supreme Court. Someone robbed the Treasury, and they try to figure out who did it. They get a tour of the Treasury and a lot of help from a clone of the President. Kids who like the A-Z Mysteries will like this book. (As told by John, age 7.)

A book of comfort and encouragement
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2001-12-12
I have found this book a great comfort and encouragement in my situation as I am married to an unbelieving husband. The book has shown me that despite our problems we can and will stay together and be happily married. One of the great things is to read of other people in the same situation and see that they stayed together, as you know of many divorces caused by this different view on religion.

Despite the book's many strong points I occasionally found its view quite "traditional" (wife at home etc.) and it is indeed written quite a few years ago. The culture here in Scandinavia is somewhat different but many things are of course the same despite the time or geography.

I would like to recommend the book for everyone in a marriage with an unbelieving partner!

If you feel like the title "Caught in the Middle" of your husband and God, this is the book for you. I cannot tell you the insight it has given me. It is a true blessing, helps you learn to balance our walks with God and our commitment to our husbands. I very much think it is a must for all those out there dealing with this.

EVERYTHING THAT REAGAN AND BUSH DID NOT WANT YOU TO READ
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 1998-05-27
Bainerman reviews a multitude of the dark stories from the Reagan/Bush administration. Although he bills himself as a "conspiracy theorist" and suggests that there is an underlying thread of conspiracy in many of the covert wrong-doings of the Reagan/Bush years I am not sold on that idea - but think the book has a great deal of importance that goes beyond whether you accept the conspiracy thesis or not. The story that everybody knows about is the Iran-Contra scandal. But there were numerous other stories - the Gander crash, the Lockerbie bombing, the Danny Casolaro suicide and the Inslaw case - which were not examined by the mainstream press with the through detail they deserved. What articles were written are scattered about and it would require a lot of time searching computer databases and hunting libraries to pull any of the relevant stories together. I don't think there is an underlying "conspiracy" - just that George Bush - a former spook in chief was running the country for almost 12 years (His fans aside, Reagan was not doing it - he was in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease as we now know and for all of those years and by all accounts of his behavior fit with this medical diagnosis (falling asleep at staff meetings, not bothering to open briefing notebooks, etc) , and Nancy may have done a great job looking after and covering for him but she was not running the country either). The man at the top was George Bush, quite compos mentis, and with the total absence of ethical faculties that are typical of politicians and certainly "covert operators". Not surprisingly a lot of his rather nasty projects were covert operations, and not a few of them were illegal and involved killing Americans citizens (interestingly our activities in Nicaragua and El Salvador and the "School of the Americas", its graduates, and their work do not figure largely in this book).

Bainerman has done some interviewing of participants - but mostly the service he has rendere! d is to pull together the information that was published. It is a very carefully researched review of each of affair. In the end he lets the reader see what a mess of dangling ends and unresolved mysteries surround each of these events, but the reader is free to make there own judgement about what this all means. As always with a work of this nature a skeptical but non-specialist reader can only spot check the veracity of the authors use of published sources - this reader bothered to get hold of one of the articles and see if the use was fair and in context - and it was, and is fairly familiar with two of the stories (Casolaro and Pan Am 103) and Bainerman seems to have covered what is known quite well.

It is unfortunate that the book did not get into the hands of a better publisher - the book lacks an index, and has a chatty style that could have used the control imposed by a good editor, and is poorly printed - typos and all. It is interesting to speculate why no major publisher would handle this book - convincing or not it is well within the range of what bigger (are there smaller) houses will handle ? Even for those who will disagree with Bainerman's facts on one story or another it is unfortunate that it was handled by such a fringe press - there are no reviews, and so no criticism by experts. If buried in the reams of facts that Bainerman provides there are some inaccuracies I would like to know that too, but with a good work exiled to a fringe press I won't ever get that analysis. Nonetheless it certainly behooves any American interested in official (as opposed to bedroom) activities of the people we put in the White House to look this over. George Bush Sr. may be in the past, but George Bush Jr. is as likely as any Republican to be running in 2000 - now is the time to find out what he may have learned from dad.

Now is the time for all good men (and women)...

This was an important book when it was published in 1992. It's even MORE important now. Frankly, I'm not surprised it's "out of print" and it's probably even harder to find now. It is, however, worth the search. This country is in serious trouble. Now is the time, as they say, for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country. If you don't believe me -- read this book. Do whatever it takes to find it. A word to the wise is sufficient.
