An Insider's View of the Presidency of George Bush
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1998-12-02
I think Dave Valdez, President Bush's Official White House photographer, did an outstanding job depicting President Bush, the statesman, the family man, and the friend, beautifully in his book of pictures and very few words. Dave Valdez captures it all: from vital moments in world affairs, to lighter family times--all the while gaining an insight into George Bush, our 41st President. A wonderful coffee table book and gift book.

This contains a set of 24 different cards, each showing a photo (mostly funny ones) of President Bush, and a quote from his speeches. My very favorite is "More and more of our imports come from overseas". You also get the date and occasion where the speech was made on the back of the card. The postcards are semi-firm, but coated and are very neat. I strongly recommend this item, it is on sale, too!

Better Even Than Hillary Voodoo
Helpful Votes: 18 out of 20 total.

I didn't think I'd find a political book that made me laugh more than the Hillary Clinton Voodoo Book. But after seeing that the same author wrote this I checked it out and I'll be danged, it was even funnier.

W. is an easier humor target to be sure. But the book doesn't come at him from the usual angles. Lots of surprising and very funny stuff.

My only complaint is the pins to stick the W. Voodoo doll with were too small. Seeing the stupid look on the doll's face and reading about all of W.'s failures put into their full and proper and tragicomic context, I wanted to stick something at least the size of a knitting needle into it.

Excellent content, cuts through all the BS and tells it like it is. This coupled with "We The People: A Call To Take Back America" by Thom Hartmann makes for some very important education for the uninformed American, which is most of us since our media is so corrupted.

Scathing, Well-Researched Book by Republican Vietnam Vet

Scathing, Well-Researched Investigation of Bush
I was interested to read Hugh Scott's book on President Bush because Scott is, by his own admission, a man right out of Bush's base--Republican, Vietnam Veteran, Reagan admirer. And yet it is for all these reasons that Scott is troubled by the Bush presidency. Scott sees the Bush record as a digression from true Republican values. He is also troubled b by the discrepancies between the official Bush biography and the truth about Bush's past. This is a book that Karl Rove and the Republican Spin-meisters cannot easily discount. It is carefully researched, fully documented, and presents a scathing indictment of the Bush past and Presidency. Hugh Scott is best known for having broken the story, to the Boston Globe, of Bush's fabrication of his National Guard flight experience. This book is hard-hitting, and will only be read by those who are willing to challenge themselves. Of course it will be attacked by the Right Wing as liberal lies. The only problem is that it is written by a Reagan Republican and Vietnam jet pilot. Any true conservative owes it to themself to read it and think about the evidence presented. Good chapters as well on Vietnam, and on the elder Bush's own inconsistencies with his own military legacy. I recommend it very highly, as a historian and as a writer.

Okay, grammar is as dull as anything. Weaver's other book was a breakthrough in how we look at grammar in language arts. First, we get all the rules and then there are the exceptions which are too numerous to mention. Upon the isolation of grammar instruction, teachers of language arts or english are expected to teach literature which the rules are usually broken. The problem of grammar instruction is that we have been teaching grammar in the same manner as ancient Latin and Greeks. Weaver is a God-send to us language arts teachers who don't know the proper place for grammar instruction. I use it only when I see fit. A lot of grammar instruction is too much and less is better than more according to Weaver's books. The studies indicate that grammar instruction is misleading and detrimental. Most language arts instructors are not here to teach grammar as much as they would like to teach or instruct literature of their favorite writers.

I picked this up on an Australian trip, and found the poems to be great. Everyone will love this. The other book I got was the Outback Rocketship - which is great but I like this one better.
My daughter loves these books too, lots of animals that aren't normally seen (as they are from down-under).
