Great fun for all ages; children and adults appreciate the photography, Santa's expressions, and Santa's message. Santa shares the message of the importance of being good . . . not only so he will visit but also to be considerate of others. Love both books, we are "collecting" the series and giving them as gifts!

The Bush Junta is an anthology of 25 cartoonists who lampoon the Bush dynasty. Made all the more biting from its heavy reliance on literal fact, these stinging, wordy black-and-white parodies candidly reveal the records, actions, and foibles of the GOP with razor-keen wit and no-holds-barred cynicism. A series of bumper-sticker flyers that can be reproduced and distributed enhances this timely and critical attack on alleged abuses of govermental power, among other presidential, political, and personal failings.

A sobering, cutting edge look at unadulterated walking evil

Kind of along the lines of "The Big Book of Scandal", only focused on one subject, "The Bush Junta" pulls no punches in dissecting a perilously evil cabal of chickenhawks commonly known as Bush's Cabinet.

Hilariously illustrated by such artistic geniuses as Ted Rall, Scott Marshall, Ethan Persoff, the late, great Hack Smith and others, "Junta" chronologically deflowers arguably the most villainous political monarchy of modern times; starting with the infamous Prescott Bush/Nazi connection. It moves on to the Skull & Bones years and then in one of the most chilling chapters, pulls the wool off of GHWB's incredibly corrupt CIA tenure.

More disgusting and very true tales of deceit, corruption and flagrant neo-fascism follow, from the warwhores of the dying-empire stenched PNAC; the collection of shady reptiles known as the Carlyle Group; John Ashcroft's suppressive and incredibly bigoted years as Missouri's attorney general and governor; the megalomaniac warmonger and former Saddam cigar-buddy Donald Rumsfeld; Condoleeza Rice, the supposed genius who ignored a ton of pretty damning intelligence reports that could have thwarted 9-11; and finally, the chief snake and puppetbastard of them all - Dick Cheney.

It's no secret or suprise that the key players of the Idiot-in-Chief's cabinet got their start or influence with the Nixon Administration. Most of the information presented here is probably not new to those that follow underground radio and internet sites. But for those who think the . . . er . . . "liberal media" (meaning, Faux News, which is about as liberal as your average John Birch member, GE-owned NBC, Disney-owned ABC, Viacom-parented CBS and CNN, which has turned into "Faux Jr." (rolls eyes)) is the be-all, end-all of truth and fairness; for those who are open-minded and won't brush this off as "more commie libtard lies" (it's backed by hundreds of footnotes, statements, excerpts, links and direct quotes, BTW), this will be a blow to the stomach like no other.

At the very least, "The Bush Junta" will make you seriously question why this administration isn't telling you everything you need to know, why the biased cookie-cutter cable media will not call them on the issues that they have failed so miserably at and why you ever trusted your government in the first place.

"Bush Justice" is impressive! I was hooked the very first page. Current's use of descriptive language and his story telling abilities are BEAUTIFUL to say the least. The cultural cross between the innocense of a native people and modern day greed and corruption is heart-wrenching and all too real. The spiritual realm of this story is awing and makes for quite the ending! This book is definitely worth reading and I will search out more work by this author.

This is a wonderful compilation of photographs centered around flying in bush Alaska. Anyone who has lived or travelled off the beaten path in the far north knows how essential airplanes are for travel and life in the 49th state. While the essays in the book tend to be a little sappy and trite, the beautiful photographs more than compensate as the reader is shown the beauty of Alaska from the perspective of bush planes.

A poor soldier, but great at soldiering!!

The Bush War in Rhodesia follows the military career of a Rhodie trooper who liked to stir the pot. Being a Marine Platoon Sergeant, I recognized this type. Krouks was great at soldiering and an expert recce trooper. Going from private to WO2 (Sgt Maj) he never had a liking for garrison or the parade ground but belonged in the bush where he excelled. I knew many Marines like this in my career. Guys who were excellent in the field, who knew their stuff and you wanted next to you in a gunfight, but when they got back to garrison they tore it up, got drunk and were liberty risks. You may know the type, a Plt/Sgt or 1st Sgt's nightmare.

This book is awesome. A fast paced, interesting read Krouks discusses recon patrols, fireforce, and pseudo-ops (infiltration and destruction of terrorist cells.) He talks a lot about field craft and the lessons learned are remarkable. This is not only a great story, but is an awesome reference for Tactics, Technics and Procedures that can be applied to any scout or recon team...hell for anyone involved in counter-insurgency ops or just plain soldiering!

If you're looking for military history on the Rhodesian Bush War, this book is right up there with Cock's Fireforce and Warren's At The Going Down of The Sun. This book should be on the USMC Commandant's reading list.

OUTSTANDING!!!

This is the fascinating story of the Rhodesian Selous Scout extraordinary Dennis Croukamp. This legendary scout established the tactics, techniques and procedures for small team and singleton reconnaissance (recce) operations that were so successful in the Rhodesian Bush War that the South African Special Forces (5 Recce) adopted these same techniques in their Border War (you can read about the South African exploits in the book "Journey Without Boundaries by Andre Diedericks).

The Rhodesian Selous Scouts was a visionary organization that took various tactics to extremes with success, this outfit was not afraid to "think out-side the box". They mastered and used tactical combat tracking with extraordinary results. They also employed a technique they are most famous for, that of pseudo-operation which they used to ultimately infiltrate terrorist cells and nets to disrupt and eliminate terrorist "underground" and infrastructure. And finally they mastered the art of singleton/small team operation which this book covers in-depth. There is a lot of lessons to be taken away from this book that still can be applied today. The American military in general do not like to operate in small teams outside the special operations community. Back in the day "regular" military snipers operated as singletons then in two man teams (Sniper and spotter), now today most conventional snipers operate in three-man teams and greater! So as you can see this method of operation is ultimately falling to the wayside. This book shows and proves it can be used successfully (risk vs. reward!) in counter-insurgency operations and special operations.

Now back to the book. It covers Crouks career in the Rhodesian Army were he first served in the Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI) and were he was initially decorated for valor (he would later become one of Rhodesia's most decorated), following the RLI Crouks attends the dreaded Selous Scouts selection and is selected to be a member of this elite unit commanded by Reid-Daly (you can read his book "Pamwe Chete - The Legend of the Selous Scouts"). Once in the Selous Scouts Crouks found that the "cloak and dagger" life of pseudo-operations was not as exciting as he hoped (as most fire fights and kills were done by the RLI and Fireforces), so Crouks moves on to the elite Recce Troop within the Selous Scouts to find the excitment/action he so missed, this is were he became the Rhodesian military reconnaissance specialist a true subject matter expert. Crouks goes on to see action in the all the border areas of Rhodesia as well as conducting external operations (cross border) in Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana. Also Crouks was instrumental in the employment of military free-fall in the Recce Troop.

This book also has a lot of references (corrections and additions by both gentlemen) to the Reid-Daly book "Pamwe Chete" as for a long time Reid-Daly and Crouks were on the "outs" over incidents in the past during their service together in the Selous Scouts, so much that Reid-Daly had cut all (or most of) the exploits by Crouks out of his book. In Crouks writing this book he contacted Reid-Daly to set the recorded straight and in doing so they both are now somewhat friends again. So this book is like the lost chapters or appendix to "Pamwe Chete". So to truly get the full story of the Selous Scouts you need to read both books to finally get the complete history.

This book was originally titled as "Only My Friends Call Me Crouks - Rhodesian Reconnaissance Specialist". Finally I cannot recommend this book more; it is a superb read for any one interested in counter-insurgency. It is a ideal read for the true military professional and a must read for the Rhodesian Bush War enthusiast or historian.

Once again, the thought that the power behind the throne ruled the biggest empire on Earth is proven. Since the beginning of the Bush administration, his government have being plagued with suspicious acusations of corruption, mismanagment, manipulation of information and public opinion, cuts in taxes, public programs and expenses and increising of military expenses with suspicious objectives but with clear consequences in a near future.
Mr. Laurent revealed the nexus between the Bush family and the oil business and how his family have being supported for generations by the republican extremists to gain control of the government and how they paid then back once instaled at White House. The list of the supporters goes from president of "prestigious" foundations, religious leaders, president of oil companies to the owners of the military industrial companies paid back with billionary contracts, loans, credits or strategic positions inside the administration to rule the destiny of United States and the rest of the world. Dangerous? Perhaps. Consequences? Many, a lot not even seeing, Irak as an example is enough to think about.

This book should be read, at least once, by every man, woman and child in America who want to acquire some background information on the influences that are currently shaping the policies of the US Government (under George W. Bush's watch) and thus the perception of America throughout the world. Eric Laurent's book is a fascinating read, and one that is always backed up with easily checkable facts for further investigation, on all the individuals who influence the Bush political machine and therefore the ultimate destiny of America. All the reader needs to do is join up the dots of the activities of Richard Mellon Scaife's Heritage Foundation, with the soundbites and reports from the Coors Foundation, Bradley Foundation, Hoover Institute, Cato Institute and the American Enterprise Institute, to realise they are all singing of the same 'hymn sheet'. And singing in one voice. And singing very, very loudley. Once the dots of the 'hymn sheet' have all been joined together, the reader, through Laurent's indepth research and precise analysis, is able to hear the main vocalists in the 'chior'; Elliot Abrams, Douglas Feith, Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney. And these 'chiorboys' do not sing with the voice of angels, no matter what Billy Graham's Christian faith would have the listner believe. If you are a Patriot, read this book as a matter of urgency, whether you intend to vote for Bush or not.

Fran Shor's "Bush League Spectacles" is a must read for anyone who cares about the future of the United States and the freedom of its citizens. Shor clearly illustrates whose interests are being served by the three year wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the corresponding "war on terror". George W. Bush, his and his father's cronies, and those fighting to spread the right-wing agenda are becoming more powerful and wealthy, while people continue to die in Afghanistan and Iraq. Meanwhile a growing majority of people in this country continue to lose their health care, their jobs, and their constitutional rights.

Shor explains how along with the power of the right-wing increasing, the U.S. has been being turned into a police state for over 20 years. Since 9/11 and Bush's declaration of "If you're not with us you're against us", the military and other government agencies have been encouraged to use extreme force in fighting the "war on terror". From the use of torture, to illegal wire tapping and recording of phone conversations, to harassing peaceful protesters, the right-wing government running this country has disregarded the rights of U.S. citizens as well as citizens from all over the world. "Bush League Spectacles" uncovers the lies and hypocrisies of the Bush administration, and demonstrates why the U.S. can not take two more years of this administration. Rather than spreading democracy, this book shows how the Bush administration has used spectacles to spread fear, terror, and disaster within and abroad. Shor not only explains this phenomenon and how it came about, but what we, as U.S. citizens, need to do about it.

A good read by a citizen scholar

I strongly recommend Bush-League Spectacles to anyone concerned about the state of national and global affairs. Fran Shor is a citizen scholar committed to an incisive progressive analysis of the times. This well written and thoughtfully arranged collection of political and cultural commentaries and essays published over several years is like having a pile of those articles we all tear out of magazines and newspapers to re-read at leisure, sure that they will retain their interest. Any reader who has not signed onto the movement to change the national motto from "In God We Trust" to "Trust Us - Just Pretend Everything is OK" will appreciate this book I suppose some will say he overstates the issues but then one realizes that this is a world where the Department of Defense is infiltrating the Quakers and uncovering the fact that they do indeed pose a credible threat of being pacifists (after 350 years of saying so) and spying on Vegans, one supposes for fear that they are potential slackers in the war on cows.
In reading this book I was struck by the scope of the historical connections he draws. Recalling the past to illustrate the present and giving at least some suggestions as to what the current trajectory of events holds for the future. As opposed to the juvenile truth-mongering, spin-doctoring and fact-smithing which comprises too much writing about current events and trends, he really seems to care about using reason in argument and distinguishing facts from opinion; presenting both with integrity and style. He assumes as valuable and good such old-fashioned ideas as the common good and the reality of the social contract, and he still writes with respect for the rule of law and the fundamentally American notion that no one is above it. His thinking suggests that the biggest threat to liberty comes from within, from citizens too entertained or alienated to attend to the public business and from a government which seeks to hold sacrosanct its prerogatives and secrets - especially the embarrassing one - above all else. In other words you would think he didn't know that everything changed after 9/11. Or could it be that he is not so much out of touch with the current message from the national bully pulpit but that he harkens to older and, we hope, more persistent sources of national character.
This is an invigorating visit with a veteran activist in peace and justice campaigns who is also a professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Wayne State University and who has received a Fulbright Distinguished Scholars Award. Bush-League Spectacles merits a place on the nightstand, not just on the bookshelf.

Can we get a laugh - a mordant laugh - out of the Iraq War? It's not easy, but Fedwa Malti-Douglas is here to help. Malti-Douglas is a distinguished scholar of Middle Eastern studies, specializing in the cultural crossroads of humor and politics. Having written the book on Arab comic books, she now brings us The Bush-Saddam Tapes. This brief, breezy entertainment starts implausibly enough: George Bush making secret calls to an imprisoned Saddam Hussein. From that absurd premise, we quickly enter into a hall of mirrors where the rapid repartee between the foes touches on both the "known knowns" of the Iraq War, "unknown knowns" (at least to Bush) of Arab history and culture, and wild "unknown unknowns" that are both ingenious plot twists and reminders that nothing has ever been as it seemed in this whole misguided errand. The War is soon ending for George Bush, but for those of us not leaving office, The Tapes is a welcome respite. In this case, absurdity is a great improvement on reality.

Laugh-Out-Loud Funny. A must read. Really!!!

In The Bush-Saddam Tapes, Malti-Douglas weaves a tale both plausible and ridiculous, all the while shining light on America's top taboo topics. It is laugh-out-loud funny, insightful, and provocative. Where else could one find President George Bush sneaking down to the oval office in the wee hours of the morning clad only in his armadillo print pajamas to initiate a clandestine call to imprisoned President Saddam. The two discuss everything from the Arabian Knights, to the pretzel incident, and, of course, the state of and a solution for "post-war" Iraq.

The Bush-Saddam Tapes is a quick, easy, fun read, but don't be deceived, Malti-Douglas' internationally renowned knowledge of all things Arab is carefully woven throughout. Read it. You will enjoy it.

Expertly written by Bob Wilder (a professional journalist with 40 years of experience), Bush-Giuliani 2004 And Other Liberal Nightmares is a vivid and charged presentation of political views and forecasts. Brief yet forceful vignettes address the author's views on "The Exodus Of Democrats", "The 'New' Al Gore", "Bonnie And Clodhopper Clinton", terrorism, gun control, and more. A thought-provoking manifesto and a timely wake-up call warning against gradual encroachments to personal freedoms, Bush-Giuliani 2004 And Other Liberal Nightmares is recommended reading for political activists on the Right and on the Left.

This book is very funny and gave me a good laugh (which we all need to do more of). It also has some sad realities of the Media and Politics. Read it to find out about the Cement Boots in Louisiana.

I've had this book on my shelf for 10 years, and I finally read it this summer. It is as good as the Laura Ingalls Wilder series, set 100 years earlier in the New England wilderness. The main character, Maggie, shows spirit and grit, making sacrifices for the family too which she has been "bound-out", even though they consider her an outsider because of her French heritage. I will use it with my 9th grade remedial class because it is relatively easy to read, but it still has themes and vocabulary that will help my students grow.

I read this to my 10 yo ds and 9 yo dd and we loved it. It was interesting to each of us and we were all hoping that there was a sequel. It really shows what life was like for immigrants who first came to America and how different life was like from what they were used to.

Highly recommend this book.
