We purchased this after going through several other spelling curricula. Concurrently purchased the Natural Speller, which offers great ideas if you want to make your own lessons up. This book has plenty of work and practice. About 1/3 of the exercises require you to have the Teachers volume for instructions. We just skip those, and still have more than enough to do. We like that there are biblical references, and that the lessons are in color and engaging. Plenty of variety.

Good content, needs editing

This book is filled with good content, although some is a bit of a leap for the evidence available.
It needs a LOT of editing and cutting back. It is worth rewriting and remarketing.

The author lists 12 religions behind monotheism, in chronological order:

1. Sumero-Akkadian (early Genesis)
2. Aramaean (Patriarchs)
3. Egypto-Midianite (Moses)
4. Joshua's Religion of Genocide
5. Canaanite-Hebrew (Judges and Kings)
6. Revolutionary (Prophets)
7. Judaism as Institutional Religion
8. Humanism (Poets and Scholars)
9. Mandaean (John the Baptist)
10. Spiritual (Jesus)
11. Mystical (Paul)
12. Apocalyptic (Revelator)

A great read about a great actor!

I am just enjoying a re-read of this book. Well written and very informative. Richard Burton has always been one of my favorite movie stars, this book goes behind the scenes of his life as an actor and gives a good account of his early years in Wales and his untimely death too. They don't make stars like Richard Burton anymore....its nice to remember his talents via his films and through books such as this one.

Good, but footnotes are too much.

This version uses footnotes too much. Every little unclear word is attached to a footnote. It's very distracting when reading and takes you away from this book. A lot of the words don't need to be footnoted, I guess the editor thought that the people who would read this would be idiots.

The Salters' Chemical Ideas and Chemical Storylines are essential for successfully completing the OCR Salters A level chemistry course. The books are well written and compliment the practical side of the course as well as the theoretical. These books cannot be used on there own as there is constant need for referral to data and activity sheets. Throughout the books are assessment questions which test your knowledge of the subject and the Storylines tests your understanding by applying the course content to real life applications. Ideas and Storylines provide interesting reading but are not always clear which parts of the text are need to know and which parts are just additional information. The Ideas book is visually unappealing, printed in black and white, but the interesting and colourful nature of the Storlines book compensates well. Overall, these books provide the most in depth learning and convey a wider bredth of knowledge than those provided by other examining bodies. Any dedicated student will be able to pass the course utilising these books and finish with a sense of fulfilment.

Kevin EuDaly is known by Santa Fe fans for his quality writing and photography. Santa Fe Rails, Vol. 1, is a look at the railroad in the first half of the 90s prior to the BN merger. Photography is almost exclusively 1990-1995. It is generously illustrated with special chapters on Curtis Hill, GP60Ms, 1993 midwest flood, Willow Springs Yard (Chicago), Hopper rebuilds, Argentine Yard including a trackplan, SD45s, SD75Ms, and an illustrated locomotive roster as of 12/1/95. This is a very useful resource for fans of the last hours of the Santa Fe Railway. Paper, 144 pages.

Semi-strong market efficiencies studied
Helpful Votes: 16 out of 16 total.

Science of Winning is written for students of probability and their applications in the stock market and pari-mutuel wagering. The author, Fabricand, draws some great analogies in semi-strong market efficiencies for both market with a conclusion that "new information" is a barrier to complete efficiency. The book then goes into analysis of how to take advantage of the inefficiencies, particularly as they apply to favorites in horse racing and stocks with surprisingly strong earnings reports. Toward horse racing, some rules, which read as if written by a lawyer, are presently and some analyses are presented to support the rules.

This book is entertaining. This book may be an aid to your objectives for profitability. I think the book over simplifies some approaches (e.g. technical analysis and computer handicapping). This is classic in that it was originally written in 1977 and now, 28 years later, this book remains in print.

I read this book almost a year ago, but I was prompted to write this review when I discovered (with horror)during a search for books dealing with contemporary Australian film that there was no customer feedback yet for this title! This book is a real treasure, even for those not remotely associated with Australian film. In fact, even divorced from film interests at all, this book is filled with interesting and engaging narrative from fascinating and colourful characters. As a film resource, it is unparralled. There is unfortunately a real poverty of material dealing with current Australian filmmaking that is this absorbing and entertaining. As a recently graduated film student, I would suggest this book as a great resource for film students in all nations, not just Australia. Australian cinema is unique, diverse, and booming on the local and global scene. This book is the most up to date resource that I could find, and by far the most enjoyable, it's just a really good read on so many levels. I really can't reccommend it enough, and I hope someone writes someting as good dealing with Australian film sometime soon.....

Playing With Sin in "Seven By Seven"
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-04

When this anthology was first proposed, I withdrew from submitting to it because I believed it was a topic done to death. As a reviewer, a month does not go by without an author querying me about reviewing his or her new book involving the seven deadly sins. Of course, there are the movies with too many to name here. Then, as well, was the Prime Time Live Special last fall on the subject and I believe Dateline did one as well early last spring. Still, I was interested in the general idea and interested to see how it would be executed.

After an interesting forward by G. Miki Hayden and an introduction by editor Charles A. "Tony" Burton that amazingly manages to never once mention Dante or for that matter Shakespeare, (both considered well known writers on the subject to put it mildly) the reader gets to the short stories and numerous black and white illustrations. The first sin to be considered is "Lust".

The highlight of the section is the story titled True Colors" by John M. Floyd. The backdrop of a workplace shooting is complicated when the investigating officers can't understand the witness clearly. But, at least they do have a witness.

"Gluttony" follows next and is showcased by "Refrigerator Raid" penned by Kimberly Brown. Hunger can drive one to do stupid things as Bennie and Clive soon learn.

Most of the stories in this anthology aren't funny and aren't meant to be. This is not true in "Catnapping" written by John Floyd. It is the highlight of the "Sloth" section and provides an answer about how to solve the annoying problem of the wife's cat. It might just be the solution for other things as well.

Seeking personal solutions is also a component of the highlight story of the "Greed" section. Written by Deborah Elliott-Upton, "Money For Nothing" immediately reminds one of the song. In this case, the chicks aren't free and will cost big time.

Taking a different track on the same background idea is B. J. Bourg in his story "Shot of Anger" located in the middle of the "Wrath" section. Bourg's story takes dead at unfaithfulness and manages to twist reader expectations right at the end.

Frank Zafiro in his story "Wish" details the hopes and dreams of one man. The highlight of the "Envy" section considers what all of us have contemplated more than once.

The final sin covered is "Pride" and the highlight story for this reader is "Montgomery's Marvelous Time Machine" written by Kimberly Brown. As she does in each section, Kimberly Brown weaves a tale much different than expected in an anthology of this type and yet her tale always fits the theme very well. This particular story revolves around a device mentioned in the title and the consequences of using said device.

In addition to the authors mentioned above, authors Sunny Frazier, (who soon will have her own novel out from this publisher) and Gary Hoffman have stories in each section as well. Author Frank Zafiro also has a novel currently out from this publisher titled "Under a Raging Moon" which will be reviewed here and elsewhere in the near future.

The 49 tales in this book along with the numerous illustrations provide a quick fun read. The highlighted stories were my personal favorites and your results may very.
