The Kama Sutra has a huge reputation based on only one of its five sections. The positions would be Part 2 and only one chapter of the ten in that section. Most books with Kama Sutra in the title are just going to be some porn structured around that chapter. The entire book is not so much useful in describing the physics of sex as for describing the psychology of sex. (It is good for physical stuff too. At one point it gives a method to get to the G-spot with the fingers, so I have to give Indian medicine props there.)

I highly recommend the Kama Sutra but not to people who are looking for the book by reputation as sex sex sex. The book is very much about sex, but more about the whole world of etiquette surrounding male female relations. Virgin marriages (virgin women anyway) are taken for granted and one whole section is about devirginizing the woman AFTER THE MARRIAGE. The advice is very good because it tells how to go about building relationships not how to have one night stands.

Get this book to study and think about and view it as relationship advice and not physical sex advice. He calls the section on oral sex "On holding the lingam in the mouth" So you will be doing a bit of translating of your own as you read prim Victorian descriptions of acts that the Victorians were unlikely to ever mention around company. It seems that the Alain Daniélou translation is good, but I have not read that specific one.

I used this book for a summer environmental studies class for 4-8 year olds. It was quite helpful, not too complicated.

Although this book was originally scheduled for publication on 8-22, I received mine today, 8-19, a testament to Amazon.com's speedy delivery service. It's difficult to categorize this volume, falling somewhere between a coffee table picture book and a personal photo album. Bernstein's brother apparently came up with the idea, this in his brother's 90th year. There are articles and remembrances from mostly his years with the NYP, written by Alan Rich, Paul Boyer and others with Burton Bernstein commenting on each. There is a good amount of new black and white photos strewn among the 207 pages with lots of newspaper reproductions, sidebars and fancy graphics that I found a bit distracting and, again, make me want to put it on a coffee table rather than store more formally on a book shelf. But for those of us who cannot get enough of Bernstein and continue to re-read Humphrey Burton's masterful biography, this is a nice adjunct. It makes us miss him all over again.

It seems that this book (I'm referring to the 1963 edition) was written for school children. Do not let that stop you from picking it up. At once informative and interesting, without providing superfluous details nor being written in a lofty or complex style, I was surprised that I did not become bored. Scientific discoveries, Pasteur's personal life, and political repercussions are included. The sporadic illustrations of his crystals, experiments, and microorganisms aid in understanding his concepts and results. This guy developed a vaccine for anthrax before we had even heard of it (namely because most people born in the 19th century are now dead...)!

When I got this book I took it to a sleepover with my friends and it was a lot of fun.We were cracking up for hours.But you shouldn't take it to seriously because after all it is just a book and I seriously doubt it has mystical powers.But over all if you just want to play around and are interested in predictions and that type of thing you should enjoy it.

For decades after her death in 1895, Maria Amparo was virtually forgotten in the United States. Montes and Goldman have unearthed and reanalysed her writings, showing her as an astute commentator on the expansion (conquest) of the US into its south west. When Amparo was writing, the Mexican-American War was recent vintage, and the annexation of California, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona was still an open wound to those Mexicans who were forcibly turned into Americans.

The authors also show how Amparo critiqued the post Civil War US society and its Gilded Age, from the distinct vantage of a Mexican American. It should be of interest to those of you who have studied that time, perhaps via more "conventional" mainstream American historians. Some of her novels criticise Anglo racism, but instead replace them with a Spanish racism that allows mixing, but retains "whiteness as the highest identity marker".

this is an excellent book for anyone as fascinated as me with historic novels. it centres around the lives of the Tatlow family- a small family in a weaving community in Newbridge, England. the story tells of their life, the community, and some history of the area. the story climaxes as the monotonous, regular-set lives of the weavers are thrown into turmoil witht he passing of an enclosure Act in parliament. it sated that the land used by the weavers as common food-growing area and such, is to be taken away for the use of a new farming technique consisting of putting walls around the area. the weavers now have to find new ways to cope with their dillema, and the story of the now ever-changing lives of the Tatlows take new twists and turns during the few decades in which the story stretches. an excellent work of art well worth the trip to the library.
