The Opera Journeys Mini Guide Series is just wonderful; it's like a "Cliff Note" of the opera, and extremely informative and educational. I particularly like the size; these guides are not cumbersome and fit right into my shirt pocket. The ladies will find sufficient room in their pocketbooks.

The story narrative with the music examples is excellent. I prefer it to a libretto; indeed, it's a much easier way to follow the essence of the story. The essay is magnificent; very well written, not pedantic, and extremely insightful and comprehensible. I congratulate Burton Fisher for a job very well done and Amazon for making these handy, information-laden booklets available. The Opera Journeys Mini Guide Series is a wonderful contribution to opera education and opera appreciation.

My tip: acquire the entire collection because you will be in easy reach of superbly presented opera guides consisting of story analysis, principal characters in the opera, story narrative with music highlights, background, analysis, and commentary.

There's more to life than meets the eye.

If you are a Christian and are not living the victorious life spoken of in the Bible, perhaps there are unseen spiritual reasons that are holding back your victory. If you have ever felt that you lived "under a black cloud", or if you feel "cursed", or if you have frightening dreams, or if you "hear voices", or any of a myriad of oppressions, depressions or other troubles, then you need Jesus to deliver you. This manual will help you.

The author explains that Christians can have demons. People are composed of body, soul and spirit. The soul and spirit are two separate things. Christians cannot be "possessed", that is, to have a demon living in their spirit, because the Holy Spirit occupies that space. But demons certainly can and do reside in a Christian's soul (defined as the mind, will and emotions) and in the physical body. They are here to "steal, kill and destroy" (our lives - John 10:10). Why let them, when Jesus died on the cross so we didn't have to put up with this? In the same way that you have to appropriate your salvation and believe (make a confession of your salvation and then believe that it's yours), you have to appropriate your healing and your deliverance - the three main things Jesus died on the cross to give us. In the case of deliverance, the demons need to be cast out with the help of another Believer.

Most mainstream U.S. churches do not teach about spiritual warfare, and completely avoid the topic of Satan and his demons and the work they do here on earth. It's just not "politically correct" or pleasant to talk about. Well, think about it, Jesus wasn't PC either. He was just trying to tell everyone the Truth, and He made a lot of people angry because what He said didn't fit into their paradigms. This book tells you the Truth and may shatter your religious paradigms. Keep an open mind and ask the Holy Spirit if this book is Truth. We have an enemy, and his name is Satan. How can we fight an enemy if we don't even talk about him and his tactics? It might be a good idea to read Ephesians 6 while you're reading this book: "We wrestle not against flesh and blood...." and II Corinthians 10: "The weapons of our warfare are not carnal...."etc., etc. Reading this book and following what it says will help you get closer to God and His will for your life.

From the cover: The Lord spoke audibly to the author telling her "loud and clear", "You have demons, and you must get them out!" Thus began a life-changing journey, the fruit of which is reflected in this manual. The author introduces the reader to the basics of deliverance, and then explains the legal rights of demons (such as those resulting from personal sins, sins of the fathers, curses, the occult, evil soul ties, physical and emotional trauma, other religions and cults). She also explains clearly how to receive needed ministry, as well as how to minister deliverance to others. This is a deliverance manual that you will treasure.

Mitsi Burton was born in Cuba and graduated from the University of Havana with a degree in Architecture. She came to the United States in 1960 where she became an American citizen, married, and had two children. She has ministered for 25 years in the area of deliverance and has also written Jezebel & the Goddesses, also published by Impact Christian Books (publishers of Pigs in the Parlor).

Excellent, well-written book about one of the great cities of the world. Orderly, logical structure for the first-time visitor as well as for those who visit Prague often or live there. Not only a good writer but an accurate, non-revisionist historian. A pleasure to read and to share with others.

Carter as he was, mostly failure but some major successes
Helpful Votes: 20 out of 23 total.
Review Date: 2002-04-28
Several years ago, a young co-worker asked me about Jimmy Carter and my response was that he was a much better ex-president than he was a president. His subsequent work in areas such as Habitat for Humanity as well as international relations has been excellent. He has served as a goodwill ambassador, election monitor and has negotiated several international agreements that favored the United States. He has also continued to be a champion of human rights causes throughout the world.
Contrasting his success after his presidency with his performance while in office demonstrates the reasons why his presidency is generally assigned a mediocre grade. His idealism in championing human rights was the most obvious example of the truism that idealism may help get you elected, but it gets in the way of governing effectively. In the age of the cold war and international tensions, a cold, heartless pragmatism seems to be the only thing that works.
I found Kaufman's explanations of the Carter presidency to be the most even-handed and honest that I have read. Carter made many mistakes, had some made for him and in other cases was just the victim of circumstances. Nevertheless, he did have some striking successes, the two most notable being the Camp David accords between Israel and Egypt and the treaty relinquishing the Panama canal. In these events, Carter showed how much potential he really had as a president. I remember when the networks pre-empted their regular programming as Carter, Sadat and Begin came back from Camp David with the agreement in hand. It was a stunning achievement and it amazed the world. The magic of that moment is captured in the book, as well as the subsequent problems that continue to plague the region. Despite all the violence in the area of Palestine and Lebanon in the years since the accords were signed, the fact that Israel and Egypt still continue to have formal relations and are at peace show how sturdy those agreements are.
As someone who lived through those years and followed the Carter presidency in great detail, reading this book brought back a great deal of memories. Without attempting to boast, I do have an excellent memory, and the recounting of the events are all exactly as I remember them.
The author closes with a very important and often overlooked point. Carter's presidency is considered a failure, and yet he refused to negotiate away anything in order to release the hostages in Iran. Reagan's presidency is considered a success and yet he attempted a bribe for the release of the hostages in Lebanon by selling armaments to Iran. There is no doubt that on that point, Carter bests Reagan.
I would like to close this review with a personal point. Yes, Carter's pushing of human rights did create problems. But, when you consider that some of those whose rights were being violated, Walesa in Poland and Havel in the Czech Republic, rose to the leadership of their nations, perhaps he was just ahead of his time.

Destined to become a classic with teens everywhere, the Topeka Heights series rocks! It is about time someone targets the real issues confronting teens today - especially urban and minority teens - although any can relate. I Highly recommend this book, and the next in the series, Christopher's Dilemma.

Author Sharon Burton, who has nearly 20 years of experience in customer service, has written an easy to read and very entertaining business book geared towards the art of providing quality customer service. Burton uses seven characters to illustrate seven different customer service scenarios. Representing customer service scenarios in the areas of transportation, grocery, medical, restaurant, retail, banking and education, the characters first conduct a brainstorming session, and then decide to go seek out customer service from different businesses. The characters then reunite at the end of the week to discuss their experiences.

The clever way that this book is written is like no other business book I have every read. It's entertaining and even humorous, yet informative. I highly recommend this book for business students or anyone interested in the customer service industry.

I am the author. The book is about a guy who loses a bet one night in Reno and ends up driving a bunch of aliens around in a new Winnebago. It has a lot to say about where reality TV is going in the future. Oh, and it's also a love story which touches on the paranormal. Please read it and tell your friends. I am a new author and I need your support. For less than the price of a large pizza you will be immensely entertained and feel much more satisfied than you would have had you purchased the pizza. Sincerely, John T. Allen

A Reason to use... A reason for Spelling

I have found it!!! I am so excited about this book that I had to share.
I am absolutely amazed at the brilliance of this book.
We homeschool, and my youngest (who's a 4th grader) really struggles with spelling. This book is fun, interactive, and colorful. It gives them a reason to want to learn!!!
The best part of this book, is that it has the same format year to year, so my two homeschoolers can have the same assignment; IE: Lesson one, pages 6&8... and that decreases my workload as well.
Buy this with confidence! It's fabulous.
BTW.... I often times buy curriculum without the Teacher's Manual to save money. Do yourself a favor and buy the TM since it is a wonderful help. Some of the lessons are based from the Teacher Manual, so without it you'd have to skip parts of the lesson.

Wonderful Spelling Curriculum!

Review Date: 2008-02-08
My son has really enjoyed this spelling curriculum. Every week it starts with a "values" story and scripture to discuss. Each day there is a different "research based" activity or worksheet for them to do to practice their words. Filling in word shape boxes, dictation, word searches, crossword puzzles, etc. It has helped my son not get bored with spelling, and actually look forward to it! And best of all, his spelling is improving! Highly recommended.
