I had just arrived home from work and my husband had that familiar twinkle in his eye. He took me in his arms and virtually stripped me where I stood and gave me the sexual experience of a lifetime. It was only later that I learnt that he had spent the afternoon reading Wild Wicked and Wanton and needed to release his built up passion on me. Needless to say I spent the next day devouring the book and it was wonderful. The characters are like real people that you know and the situations where fantastically erotic, but at the same time very believable. The three stories were works in themselves, but at the same time interrelated. Get a copy for your husband and if it has the same effect that it had on mine, then there will be a lot of ladies going to work tomorrow with a big smile on their faces. Two other books we have read recently that have had the same sexually electrifying effect have been 100 Percent Erotica and Purple Panties: An Eroticanoir.com Anthology Both red hot, up close and raunchy, sexy books.

Anyone person suffering these illness, and has struggled with the lack of medical help, NEEDS HOPE. I felt this was truly provided in this book along with the information of Healing. Just reading this book, helped my depression of long term illness that no Dr. could see, touch or give me a Rx for. Getting older or gaining weight, being female did not cause these health problems. Seeing other accounts of similar problems has given me a place to start investigating just what is wrong with my health and so armed with this information, I think can be the first step on the path to wellness.

A must have for the Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgia sufferer!

If you have or know someone who suffers from fibromyalgia (chronic muscle pain) or chronic fatigue, you absolutely must get this book. Don't waste one more minute, order it now. IT could save your life. Don't believe the naysayers who tell you that nothing can be done. There is plenty that can be done. Not all of it will work, but at least you now have a good place to get started, and techniques that have proven successful for others. Plus the book gives you excellent resources for finding the best doctors out there to get you well. Any questions feel free to contact me at srowe@nbn.net

A must have for those afflcted, needing solid facts/answers!

After many hours of searching and reading, this book combines documented clinical facts and case studies. I too suffered with these conditions and have found this book and its treatments to produce positive results! I have been in the medical profession for 20 years and had to leave the field because of my condition, but until recently, have I put these practices to the test, and have found those that work for me. If you really suffer from this, trust me, YOU NEED this book. For those interested, please feel free to write me and I'll discuss with you my own treatment plan and results..

My boss bought this book for me, and I thought it was going to be just another, "yeah, you have fibromyalgia and it's a real shame, this is how you cope with it", but instead, this book CHANGED MY LIFE! (Sorry for the run-on sentence). I had so much pain that some days I couldn't get out of bed. I would find a position that was minimally pain free and not move until I was better. It got so bad that I had to use a cane so I could get to work. But I read the book and I couldn't believe the case histories. But when the pain got so bad that I thought I would lose my job, I changed my diet (hey, what did I have to lose? ) and low and behold, within a week the pain was gone (I stopped taking pain medicine everyday), the "fog" lifted and I felt better than I had in YEARS! Another side benefit, is that I have lost weight! But I recommend this book very highly. I will also say that my doctors have pooh-poohed these results, but I firmly believe that what we eat, really effects how we feel. I just never knew how much!

This is the first book I've read in a while and i must say it was EXCELLENT!!! It took me on and emotional roller coaster ride that made me TRULY FEEL!!! Although the author is my brother and i know him intimately, this book opened up his world to me and reveal things(personal things)that i didn't even realize. It gave me a TRUE understanding of him,his DRIVE and MOTIVATION and how he has gotten to the this VERY SUCCESSFUL place in his life. It has also given me the tools to re-organize and refine my life with daily practices that make HAPPINESS a choice that is not that far fetched. Since reading the book things have definitely changed for me and are continuing to change on a DAILY BASIS!!!
THANK YOU Chop for SHARING SO MUCH of YOURSELF on the project!!!

I have to say that this book intrigued me right off the bat, I have been struggling for months with the emotional pain from losing my job and for some reason this book caught my attention. I must say it has given me a new lease on life and raised my outlook in trying to have a more positive attitude each and every day. I loved the fact that right from the beginning Burton started me off with some step by steps which made it easy for me to put all of my issues into perspective. I enjoyed feeding off of the tips and information in the book and I was easily able to implement fulfilling techniques into my personal life. I owe it to Chappale Linn Burton for giving me a new lease on life and helping me turn my sad emotions into happy ones.

Happiness; is it earned or is it created? I often wonder about this as life has been a rollercoaster for me and my family. I was never sure if I could choose to be happy or if I had to wait for it to come along in bits and pieces. Then I read this wonderful book and realized that I can make the choice!

Chapalle made me realize that no matter how tough life is we can be happy. His step-by-step method is easy to understand, seems fun to accomplish, and can be reitterated over and over again. I am anxious to work on the "30 ways in 30 days" idea and have almost talked my husband into trying these ideas as well.

Thanks for this great read! I recommend this book to everyone.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I feel odd saying that because I'm not typically into feel good/motivational books because I "choose happiness" 90% of the time. However, the title of this book caught my attention, so I took a chance on it. I am SO glad that I took that chance.

This book is different from any book I've read before. Not only is the book fun to read, but it gives an action plan, with exercises, at the end. I finished it in less than one week and it usually takes me at least a month to finish books! I just couldn't put it down.

Not only does the author invite readers in to share very personal parts of his life, he explains, in a reader friendly fashion, what emotional state he was in and the decisions that he CHOSE to make. Covering issues such as dealing with the loss of loved ones, career choices and changes, money and financial struggles, love (the good and the bad), and success and failure, this book makes the average, everyday person know that they are not alone. You will find yourself laughing, then crying, then laughing again!

I now use the action steps given in the book and it has made me more appreciative of everything and everyone in my life. So I encourage every invest in your happiness. Choose this book... and choose happiness now!

An uplifting, inspring, positive book

This is one of the most inspiring books I've read. I've always been on to try to look at the lighter side of things, to see the positive in most situations, but after reading this book, I learned so much more than I can do to literally "choose happiness" in just about everything I do and am confronted with. There are so many methods for finding the positive that I couldn't find a good place to put my book mark and put the book down. I just keep reading it!

I love how well the book is written and how easily the content seemed to come to the author. This is one book that I will be passing around to my fellow book readers, as I'm sure anyone can benefit from what they'll learn.

I can not get enough of Burton Silverman and this book was just what I needed.
I just flip open a page and study how he pulls it off, great painting that is.
I have not read the whole book, just little bits here and there.
But I sure have looked at all the pretty pictures and so should any one who likes B. Silvermans work.

You will have to admire the works of Burt Silverman presented in this well designed compilation of his work. I have followed his work for years and he's just one of those magical craftsmen that makes me just shake my head in wonder when I see what he can do with a paint brush. He is certainly one of the best artist of our age. If you love art in the realist format, you will be well pleased with this book and with Mr. Silverman's work. This one is a "keeper".

This is the story of a man's quest for truth in art in spite of a country's infatuation with its new found Modern Art. I found the book to be BEAUTIFUL, COMPELLING, ILLUMINATING, and INSPIRING...filled with IMAGES OF the LOVE that Mr Silverman has for his subjects, his kind & curious Humanist "take" on the World, and his incredible volume of awe inspiring work. He has crossed the barriers of "illustration" showing us that Art is Art when "spoken" by the true voice.

Most people who would buy this book are already familiar with Burton Silverman's paintings. The book is no disappointment; the reproductions are large and sensitive to color nuances, on heavy paper, and there are a lot of them. There are short essays by Silverman about each painting which show an honest, contemplative mind at work. It's not a how-to book; there's no pedantic bloviating, just a humble, intelligent man describing the circumstances behind each picture. At first I pegged Silverman as one of those East Coast types who paint their Greenwich Village friends sitting still with expressionless faces and vacant stares. It all seemed too academic, lacking action and vigor, like most modern art. But his understanding of color and composition is undeniable, and the personalities he depicts grow on you. They are of the type of person who can be found in artist's lofts, in front of Folger's coffee cans full of paintbrushes, wearing sweaters and spectacles, New York academics and intellectuals who go to poetry readings, listen to Public Radio, and fret about the fate of the Rosenbergs. He's a world traveller, so he has other types of people, too, but he seems to know all of them personally, and doesn't just paint anonymous models. Though his work is a little tame compared to the kind of entertainment industry stuff I'm interested in, commercial illustrators could learn a lot from Silverman's penetrating eye and calm, balanced judgement.

Just a few lines (as I chose to write below) to be an 'unhelpful' review.

My fingers wiggle when seeing the drawings. My nerve cells tingle trying to process/digest/analyze color combinations in the paintings, and half of me trying to get off the chair and get to the easel to "mix 'em colors".

Some body, catch me! I am falling... in love.

Excellent Resource!

This book is a must for people who want to educate themselves about cancer beyond the conventional "treat the symptoms" technique that conventional medicine employs. It addresses methods of detection that will not cause the cancer to spread. It addresses treatment that does not destroy the immune system. But most of all, it goes to the heart of the disease--why you have cancer--and explains treatment for the possible CAUSES of the disease in each person. For those who are in agreement or wish to explore some of the treatments described in this book, the trick is finding a center that will treat using these methods, and in being able to afford this type of treatment which is rarely, if ever, covered by standard medical insurance. These centers do not advertise and generally keep a low profile for obvious reasons.

Sorry, meant to mark four stars.

I like that it has so much information all in one place, however much of the information in this book can be found on the internet (although with A LOT more work). This book gave me a much appreciated focus to my cancer research.

There are breakthoughs that the book does not cover (for example fungal infection) and it was written when the understanding of prions (the cause of mad cow disease for example)and their role in health risk was only beginning.

Would like to see a more updated version, almost 10 years old, a more recent version could only be better.

With a working diagnosis of advanced ovarian cancer, this book gave me HOPE and DIRECTION. Statistics say: One in two men and one in three women will face cancer. IF POSSIBLE, be prepared in advance to know what course you would take. BUT, if you or a loved one are diagnosed with cancer, have courage! There are MANY choices BESIDES surgery, radiation and chemo. Better choices! This enormous book will educate you.

Don't miss the AMAS test on pages 702-705: an accurate blood test that can detect ANY cancer up to 19 months BEFORE conventional medical tests for cancer can find it! This test gave me GREAT PEACE of MIND as it ruled OUT cancer for me before my surgery to remove a grapefruit-sized endometrioma (NON-malignant). Praise the LORD!

Im a 33 year old young woman, who was diagnosed with advance local breast cancer 5 months ago today (24 May 2001, date of diagnosis). I was fortunate enough to have a close friend in the US who know of this book, due to working with one of the doctors who are published.

This book has become my Bible and has literaly saved my life. Im sitting here tonight in the wee hours of the night to let you know that today I have no turmors and am living cancer free. Five months ago I have 4 tumors all at approx 4cm each, today they are all gone, by the grace of God and his direction led me to this book which in turn gave me the information, the wisdom and guaidence to get through this tragic disease that so many people, possibly thousands world wide die from.

God Bless the all those who contributed to the truth about cancer. I thank you.

This massive (1116 pages) book is published by the editor of the magazine 'Alternative Medicine.' The first section consists of richly detailed accounts of the successful cancer treatment plans of 23 respected alternative physicians from Robert C Atkins to Charles B Simone. Part 2 is a fundamental explanation of the nature, causes, politics and prevention of cancer. I have never read a better 225 pages on the subject. When you come closer to understanding the conditions that precede cancer you are empowered to change those conditions and assume control over your own body. The final section presents alternative therapies one by one from nutrition, botanicals, and metabolic factors to physical and energy support therapies ranging from ozone and thermal (infrared heat) to acupunture and magnetic. In all, a finely-written explanation of a life-and-death topic meant for those who have cancer, their friends and families who refuse to give up and, who knows?, maybe even your doctor! This is a book I run to every time an acquaintance is diagnosed. I learn about the specifics of their condition and the hope that exists beyond the conventional.

This book surpassed my expectations of a debut book. I found it to be reminiscent of Toni Morrison. The characters are a little hard to follow in the beginning but once you start reading you won't be able to put it down. This is the sory of Ellen, a young balck girl subjected to physical, verbal, and sexual abuse at the hands of her mother and her brother James. Ellen was also taken to visit a Root Worker that was paid to rid Ellen of the demons that her mother had concocted in her mind. She was told that she was evil so much that Ellen started to believe that she was evil. This book captured from me from beginning to end. Buy it now!!!

This book ripped me open, and left my insides vulnerable and exposed to the world. That's as nicely as I can convey how I felt after reading the last word of this text. The subtle nature of the writing caught me off guard and made me feel like a helpless child. When a young friend casually mentioned to Ellen that her father had seen Ellen talking to herself on the front porch, and thought that she was crazy, I gasped! I was so inside Ellen's head from the beginning of the book, and so conditioned to the assumption of sanity, that seeing an objective character's sad and demoralizing perspective of her was jarring. Seeing the full, unfolding picture of Ellen's lack of mental health staggered me and for the rest of the story, I wanted to reach into the book, pick up this damaged little girl and love her. I highly recommend The Root Worker.

I had a chance to read this book shortly after it was released. I was around 17 years old, and I understood it perfectly. The character Ellen really allows the reader to get inside of her head and know exactly what she's thinking.

To the reader who was confused about "glue," it represents any safe place. Odysseus had the same type of place in Homer's "The Odyssey..." Ithaca was what HE called it, did it confuse you that it wasn't named after a real place? Before you talk about how much of a horrible waste of time a book is to read, why not make sure you're not being narrow-minded? Perhaps when Ellen spoke of playing tag and being safe at glue, it should have meant something to you. Did you ever play tag? In fact, if you do a search for "glue" within this book, it usually is listed together with a derivative of the word "safe."

You have to read this book as if it's an autobiorgraphy told through dialogues with Clarissa... Not as if it was fiction. The book is so incredibly realistic that if you read it any other way, you're missing the point.

Great book... Would recommend it to anyone.

Deep, really deep.

Not since Resurrecting Mingus, have I read a book that has moved me as much as Rainelle Burton's The Root Worker.

Ellen's story is a familar story, of the girl left behind. Hers is a story of physical, mental, and sexual abuse, that trancends the ordinary dysfunctional family. This unique tale is told in the voice of a girl whose voice has been muted to nearly everyone except her imaginary friend Clarissa. Even through the midst of angst and lonliness, Ellen story is vivid, uplifting, and somewhat humerous at times.

Burton's done a wonderful thing in this story. She let us peep into the lives of an extraordinary, reluctant, heroine. Her imagery and symbolism is reminiscent of Alice Walker.

If you want a book to read that's thoughtful, extremely well written, and even mystical, then this book will not dissapoint.

I got this book at Disneyland yesterday. It was SO great! I'm glad I bought this instead of a stuffed Sally doll. It was very interesting, and I'm very pleased to see storyboards and the very informative contents of the book, especially the poem of The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, I wish I could've read more of the poem Tim Burton wrote. Then I could compare it to the original poem of The Night Before Christmas. Tim Burton is an exceedingly creative man, and I'm glad he makes stop-motion animation, because I'm SO sick of all the stupid computer animated movies that studios make nowadays. Tim Burton follows his own ideas, and this movie inspired me to be a stop-motion animator when I grow up, alongside with a career as an author.

This book is definitely very illustrative about the process of creation of a film of the caliber of `The nightmare before Christmas'. With a foreword by Tim Burton, the book includes everything related with the making of this stop-motion animation classic. This book is more a documentary about the making of the film; it is divided in three sections (described below) and takes you through the whole process of creation of the movie. It is an interesting document indeed for people wanting to know about the creative process of making a movie of this kind. A perfect companion for the film!

The Film

The first part of the book focuses on the story ans the lyrics of the movie songs, beautifully illustrated with pictures from the movie, designs and Burton's sketches. Some movie facts are also given in this part of the book.

The Art

The original poem by Burton in which the movie is based on is presented in the firt part of the section. Most of Burton's sketches and character designs are here. The design of the sets, the characters and storyboards are well explained and presented in this section of the book with beautiful pictures, colored sketches and original drawings by Tim.

The Vision

In this section we get to meet all the people involved in making this film possible, and a little background on her profiles and how they were selected to partake on this project. Tim Burton, Henry Selick, Danny Elfman, Caroline Thompson, Kathleen Gavin and Denise Di Novi participate with comments and thought about the project.

If you've ever seen Tim Burton's truly excellent stop-motion animation film The Nightmare Before Christmas, then you've probably wondered, "How was all this done?" This book can answer that. Inside you'll find the stories behind the screenplay, the music, the process of stop-motion animation itself, and see some of Burton's original sketches that gave inspiration to one of the most imaginative and outright magnificent movies in the last fifteen years. If you love The Nightmare Before Christmas, then you'll go nuts over this book.

This book is more of a movie companion book than an artbook, although there's plenty of art to look at.

The book's divided into 3 parts:
Part 1 - Land of the Living
Part 2 - Land of the Dead
Part 3 - Going Upstairs, The Illustrated Story

You know those behind the scenes videos from movie DVDs? This book is essentially that, except in written form.

Part 1 talks about how the story was conceived, the people involved in making the movie, project development, and the challenges to handling stop motion animation. There's a lot on character design, especially the back stories that determine who they are, and how they were created physically. There are very interesting details you'll learn in the creation process. Below's a quote on controlling facial movements:

"By inserting an Allen wrench into a socket in the ears of the puppets, the animators could control various facial movements. If you put the key into the left ear and turn it in one direction, it would make the puppet smile on the left-side of the face; if you turned it the other way it would make the corner of the mouth on that side of the face droop down, giving the puppet a slightly sad expression, and vice versa on the other side."

Part 2 is about designing the movie set. It talks about the design influences on the buildings and how the sets were designed in order to facilitate shooting. There are write ups on the voice casts, animators and the music. Interesting to note is that the movie was shot using a digital SLR. A quote on the living and dead set:

"Both thematically and visually, Corpse Bride is about inversion, with the Land of the Living a gray, dead place where people are lifeless, hopeless and sad, while the Land of the Dead is full of vivacious dead people with a lust for life and joy."

On animators:

"Some will act out before the shot, others will videotape themselves and try and piece together a performance that way. Some animators sort of just go for it and sort of feel it."

Part 3 is the storyboard of the movie. This part is filled with the script, penciled storyboards and movie stills.

If you are looking for a book with a little bit of insight into the creation of the Corpse Bride film, this is good choice. Nice selection of production pictures and concept artwork with a good description of the processes involved.

The book covers puppet making, music creation and a small scale time line of concept to film.

If you love the film, you shoudn't miss the book.

I bought this book several months ago in a local bookstore. The photos and images in the book attracted my attention almost immediately, although at that time I've only heard of the film but haven't watched it. Like other behind-the-scenes books, it shows how they produced the film in every detail, from beginning to end. I especially like the concept sketches and the black humor. The production process also provides a good reference to the making of stop-motion animation, which makes this book unique. If you like the the film or stop-motion animation, I believe this book won't disappoint you.

This is one of the most awesome soundtrack sheet music books I've ever seen! All of the pieces sound like they do in the movie, and the grand staff notes are close enough to the original melody to sing along to. The key is hard to get used to, but once you do, it's amazing!!

This book is a challenge even for the most experienced pianist. His music is fun and intricate and complex. I recommend this book for anyone who is not only a fan of the movie but a fan of excellent music who is looking for music that takes their knowledge of music theory to the max.

absolutely amazing

I love all things tim burton, especially the soundtracks to his movies. danny elfman is possibly the most talented composer in hollywood and it baffles me that not all his music is sold as a piano vocal series, since it is so very suitable for just that. consequently I was thrilled to find this little book, and I was not disappointed. it is simple enough for a novice to play along based on the chords, and yet sophisticated enough for the more experienced pianist to get a lot out of the instrument. as has been noted elsewhere, the guitar chords are indeed systematically drawn every tim they occur, which to me is a fantastic idea. every tim burton/danny elfman fan who likes singing and playing the piano should own a copy of this!

the second I got my hands on it, I went directly to my piano and did not get up for the next four hours. that's how great it is to be your very own nightmare before christmas soundtrack!

Don't know music myself, but my son does!

I'm not musically gifted like the rest of my family; I only took 4 years of violin to get out of gym, but wouldn't know what to do with one if I picked it up today. But I do know that this music/lyric book has every song from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" movie. anyone that's watched it KNOWS that every song is hauntingly, melodiously beautiful, just like any other Tim Burton production. Even if you can't carry a tune or don't know the words, you have to try to sing along. But with this musicbook you can! -at least know the words -you know best if you can actually sing... I would highly recommend this product! Kudos to the Hal Leonard Corp for making it available! :)

There's lot of stuff in this tiny cheap book. It's obviously not aimed at orchestrators but more at the movie fans who expect some nice evenings, singing these excellent tunes.
I give this book a 5 because of the guitar chords which are systematically drawn each time they occur. It wasn't expected, especially as we're dealing with a piano vocal song book, so: 2 thumbs up=5 stars !

This book is a fine collection of drawings by an artist in the classic tradition, and yet, they have an added vision in the way Silverman chooses his poses and drops edges. A lovely work.

this is exactly the kind of book i like..beautiful drawings and, just as important for a working artist, a real discussion of why he makes certain choices and how he mentally handles tricky technical issues (such as: for the drawings, he used an actual book but as it had different kinds of paper on each page, sometimes the surface didn't necessarily fit the image or media he wanted to use and he discusses how he handled this).
much better than the usual 'how-to' or one of those coffee table art books which either focus solely on technique or just present the images - here is a rare book which shows beautiful images and also reveals the decisions involved in creating them...(there is a book of interviews with Wyeth which is similar)...like having a heart to heart with a master painter...this is a real chance to hear and reflect on issues we all face as we draw and paint.

Interesting with reservations

What is interesting about this book is the view you get of the artist and his thinking. The forward and introduction were well written. The plates are wonderful. Kudo's to the publisher.

But alas, the drawings are basically rough sketches of life studies. Nothing is finish. If you enjoy seeing unfinished work that emphasizes style and impression more than realism and technical skill, this is your book. But I honestly expected something more. The book is very pricey but the content is not all that well executed, IMHO. But it's worth a look if you are a serious draftsman in training.
