John Ankerberg and Dillon Burroughs collaborate again in this new addition to the Contender Bible Series. "How is Christianity
Different from Other Religions?" provides curriculum for six sessions of small group study or for individual exploration.
Each session contains topics that address questions frequently asked by Christian believers to many complex questions they may be facing, as well as skeptics or those seeking spiritual truth or contemplating what it means to become a follower of Jesus Christ.
Each session includes a segment of introductory material, non threatening opinion questions for discussion, a time transitioning to a time for communicating personal feelings, which leads to a time of personal application, consideration, and quotations from diverse perspectives and well known sources.
I especially enjoyed the contemporary parallels and illustrations used in the "Getting Started" segment of each lesson. The "Talk About It" and "Here's What I'm Thinking" discussion questions have a natural progression that offers the reader an opportunity for an open viewpoint and an opportunity to learn.
An additional resource list and endnotes provide material for further study and reference. The appendix provides help on "How to Begin a Personal Relationship with God" and an excellent article entitled "Praying for Those Who Do Not Believe."
Helpful charts provide a quick visual comparison of World Religions by size, and a brief description of their main tenets, and a comparison of Jesus in Islam and Christianity.
This is a book designed for group study, practical for individual exploration, an invaluable resource for those seeking answers to: "How is Christianity Different from Other Religions?"

I only have a BA in Theology and have only been a Believer for five years, but I have seen enough of the North American Church
to tell me that Jeremiah Burroughs hits the mark when it comes to describing the deepest issues that cause divisions in God's
Church. Although almost four hundred years old, it amazingly speaks to today's NA Church. I have already recommended it
to most of the pastor's I know because I believe that it deals with the heart matters of pride which is the core to the divisions
in the Church. I'm not saying that your church has the problems Burroughs is talking about, but it probably will at some
time or has had in the past. Understanding the pride of the heart is essential in dealing with the divisions in the Church.
I pray God will guide you through this book and challenge your own outlook on the people in your church.

Burroughs was kind enough to provide the PDF version of his book online for everyone. The information covered in this book
is an analysis and compilation of scholars and archaeologists that have rejected the hypothesis of the Jesus Family Tomb and
the Lost Tomb of Jesus.
It is incredible that both secular and Christian scholars agree, that the Lost Tomb of Jesus is based on hype rather than fiction. This is a serious blow to the producers and filmmakers...and this book explains how and why.

Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions. These usually contain 2 books of the
different ERB major series in order - thus far John Carter, Pellucidar, and Carson of Venus. In the future, possibly Tarzan!
These books are handsome and my rating is mainly based on this - the ERB fan knows best about the rest of it.
Volume 3 contains "The Chessmen of Mars" in which the author introduces a Martian chess game, complete with rules and description. This game actually had a small, dedicated group of practitioners back in the 60s or 70s and you could buy sets of Martian chess. The other one introduces another earthman who travels to Barsoom(Mars) into a different part of the planet from John Carter's.
These books cannot equal the original John Carter trilogy but are nevertheless good ERB. ERB produced more quality book in the John Carter series than in any other series he wrote. including Tarzan.
All ERB fans who can afford them should buy these magnificant Leonaur Limited editions.

If you're looking for good 1930's era pulp fiction, you've come to the right place. Fans of ERB's Mars, Venus, Pellucidar,
or Tarzan books will enjoy this novel. True, the plot is somewhat predicatable, and the chapters read like monthly installments
(like they were), but its great fun to read. You also have to ignore some of the prejudices of the era, particularly the
roles of women and men, but as long as you know that going in, you'll enjoy a good story.

This is a great ERB trilogy, so it gets 5 stars in my estimation. The movie cover is from the 1975 Doubleday edition. There
is NO 1946 Doubleday edition. This mistake was simply from a misreading of the copyright page, which often occurs with Burroughs'
editions. If you are a old collector, you have already purchased Robert B. Zeuschner's "Edgar Rice Burroughs: The Exhaustive
Scholar's and Collector's Descriptive Bibliogrpahy." If you are a beginning collector, buy the Zeuschner!

Torpedoed by a German U-boat in the South Pacific during World War I, a group of adventurers find themselves marooned on caprona,
a hidden and impregnable island seemingly suspended in time, inhabited by dinosaurs, Neanderthals, scattered bands of humans,
and cities of fierce humanoids. As they explore this otherworldly place, the protagonists struggle to unlock the fabulous
secret at its heart. This book was a wonderful classic fantasy, any fantasy reader would thouroughly enjoy it!

A final novel, and a literary tour-de-force
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-03-19
Review Date: 2005-03-19
Gysin's last, brief novel -- he died the year it was published -- is a dark epistle of expectation. As he imagines it, Paris'
old, crumbling Beat Hotel is now run as a bardo by Buddhist monks, a physical manifestation of the spiritual stages in which
individuals have the opportunity to achieve enlightenment. The story and its' characters move upward, from first-floor room
to ascending floors, and Gysin's fantasia weaves East and West together, fusing hallucinatory tales of sexual debauchery,
ancient myth, and the Word. The story is dense with literary allusion and wordplay; there are scraps of poetry, fiction, and
scripture of all kinds on every page. The Dalai Lama, Apollo, Hassan-i-Sabbah and Gertrude Stein all make appearances in this
cultural approximation of Gysin's literary cut-up style, and along the way there's a money-mad rock-star simian named Mickey
Monkey whose father may or may not be William Burroughs. (Quoting one of Burroughs' more famous observations in the text,
"you have to take a broad, general view of things").
The novel is an edited version of a larger manuscript Gysin intended to call "Beat Museum-Bardo Hotel," which remains unpublished. What's presented here is, still, a literary tour-de-force. It's Gysin's valedictory, and at the end the author himself seems tired of life's own pyrotechnics: "A story like this can have no happy ending," he writes. "Or can it?" This may not be every reader's idea of an inspirational message, but for Brion Gysin it was enough.

The lessons are designed to be user friendly and to encourage active group discussion. Participants should feel free to agree or disagree openly and honestly, while being sensitive to other group members.
The topics in this study guide include the uniqueness of the Bible, it's inspiration, how the Bible as we know it originated, a discussion of supposed myths and legends, and questions about contradictions.
The writings of the Qu'ran, the Book of Mormon, the claims of Jehovah's witnesses, and the writing of Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist religions are all discussed in light of the Biblical claim to be the inspired Word of God.
