A Better Understanding of Biblical Apologetics, an Equipping Tool
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

In this user friendly study guide "Defending Your Faith," John Ankerberg and Dillon Burroughs challenge the reader to consider the basis of their faith, and to understand the development and accurateness of the Bible. These inter-active studies are formatted to be used over a twelve week period and can be adapted for personal study, or in a group Bible study setting. The book is the sixth title in the Following God Christian Living series, a topical approach to Bible study.

Each lesson considers an important question regarding the Christian faith. Evidence is presented with clarity to help the reader understand the material and in turn to communicate truths to family, friends, or others seeking answers to these questions for themselves.

Each chapter is divided into suggested reading and study to be covered over a five day period. The lessons provide valuable information and background material on such important issues as: The Bible as God's Word, other religions, evolution, creation, the resurrection, miracles, prophecy, and the problem of God allowing suffering and evil. Opportunity is given for self expression to aid the reader in assimilating the material. Each lesson is filled with scriptural evidence for study, reflection, and to equip you to defend your faith.

I personally appreciated the word studies, the thought provoking questions, the personal application opportunities and the insightful quotes from recognized Bible scholars.

"Defending Your Faith" is an excellent study and provides opportunity for the reader to apply truths to their own lives, and to know and communicate what the Bible teaches. It can be easily adapted for inclusion as curriculum in church discipleship and new believers training programs. I highly recommend this book for consideration by pastors involved in adult education opportunities, to every Christian Education Director, to small group leaders, and for individual study, and one-on-one discipleship mentoring.

This is a great book. If you like westerns' read it. If you like mystery read it. If you like adventure read it. If you like romance read it. If you like comedy read it. You love the hero. You are guessing through out the book. It is about Buck Mason (I know bad name.) who is the "Deputy Sheriff Of Commanche County." There is evidence against him say he killed a man. His family had had a feud with this man over land. When he finds out that he is being blamed he goes into hiding. He wants to prove his innocents and hunt down the real killer's. But after he went in to hiding everybody believed him guilty.

This book is easy to read. If you can find it buy it. I only read Louis L'amour when it come to western's. But this guy is good.

I always enjoyed Tarzan running around the jungle etc etc but when he made his way "back into a land time forgot" in the Pellucidar series of tales at the earth's core fighting dinos and sabertooths and mastodons and cavedudes -- well, heck! How cool was that! So get the series of tales here all together.

This calendar contains some of the best art work ever done based upon characters of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Jones' paintings have a monumental, mythic style that is very suitable to his themes.

This is Holtsmark's classic work on ERB and a very desirable book indeed for all fans of Tarzan, John Carter, or students of popular culture. It is one of the few scholarly studies of Tarzan around, yet is an extremely entertaining read. This study is filled with insights as well as providing a brief overview of ERB's life and work.

THE Master of Adventure!

Review Date: 2004-01-23
This is a short biography of Edgar Rice Burroughs, one of the great popular writers of the early 20th century. Although a lot
of his work has sadly dated, he was the creator of characters of
enduring popularity such as Tarzan of the Apes. He also created John Carter of Mars, the Warlord of Barsoom, as well as Carson of Venus, the Pellucidar novels, and "The Land That Time Forgot." Burroughs' life is a treat for his fans, and Lupoff is an enthusiastic and skilled biographer.

THE WORLD OF E.R.B.
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.

For any fan of Tarzan, John Carter of Mars, Venus series, Pellucidar, even Westerns, and many more, this biography of the creator of all of the above, is a must have and a must read!!! I discovered Tarzan and John Carter in the 60s when paperback editions were readily available. Add to that replays of old movies on TV (Tarzan - Johnny Weissmuller, Buster Crabbe, and the rest) and the creation of a fan was in the making. This reprint of the 1967 (The Big Swingers) makes this enthralling look at the life and times of Edgar Rice Burroughs available for the first time in too many years. Now, old and "new" fans alike can marvel at the fullness of this work. I can't praise it enough for allowing this "older" fan to relive the memories of cinema, television, and books that enchanted me as a youngster. For fans and followers, young and old, this book is an absolute essential for your library.

With beautiful Russ Manning art, an exotic prehistoric setting, and a non-stop action plot that never slows down, Tarzan in the Land that Time Forgot is one of the best Tarzan comics ever. Edgar Rice Burroughs never took Tarzan to Caspak, but if he had, the results might have been a lot like this story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and recommend it to anyone who likes adventure.

A Biography of the Books
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-19
It is quite amazing but 40 years after Lupoff wrote this (1965) sterling account of the novels and stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs (the creator of Tarzan) it is still the indispensable source book on all of the 80 plus works of this master of American fiction. It is absolutely a "must read" for every Burroughs fan! It is not a biography of the man but of the books themselves and filled with a treasure trove of insights and commentary. One may agree of disagree with Lupoff's views, but one must know this book to be knowledgeable about ERB criticism.
