I am not a lawyer. I first stumbled upon a series of legal podcasts entitled "Life of a Law Student". After exhausting that supply,I sought additional audio treatment of legal subjects. I had high expectations of the Sum and Substance series and Professor Sherri Burr given her credentials and that of the publisher. The author claims in her opening remarks that this work is geared towards law students and legal professionals needing to brush up on international law.
I have the following complaints about this work:
1) it is obvious that Professor Burr is reading from notes and consequently the pace of the audio is excruciatingly slow.
2) since the author chose to read from her notes instead of speaking in a more relaxed/extemporaneous style, the recording struck me as dry and tedious.
3) as compared to the "Life of a Law Student" podcasts which included lengthy discussion of relevant case law, "Sum & Substance International Law" presented few case examples and treated them briefly. From the Life of a Law Student Series, I found lengthy discussion of relevant case law helpful to understanding and remembering key issues.
4)I found the author's style of pausing to introduce new subjects to be discussed a distraction. In one example, the author introduced a subject, then spoke for approximately a minute on the subject, and then closed the subject. Why even bring something up as important if one is going to spend so little time developing the point?

For all of the above, I can not recommend this audio series.

This book was written in 1975, and was obviously meant to ride the coattails of Gore Vidal's "Burr". What if the famous Burr-Hamilton duel had been interrupted by a time-travel/alternate reality traveler, who falls out of a tree at the right moment?
What if Burr and Hamilton decided to start hopping through alternate realities rather than play politics? Twenty years before, "Sliders", this book explores interesting alternate worlds. Imagine an America of the 1890's that had become a police state that was tracking down subversives sent in by Czar Nicholas II of Russia? Imagine an America of the 1940's in which a German armada lands on the coast of New Jersey? Imagine giant centipedes from outer space devouring New York City in 1935? The main plot involves a copy of the U.S. Constitution signed by Aaron Burr instead of Alexander Hamilton, and government agents work to get their own copy back instead of the Burr variant.For fans of alternate realities and alternate history, this book is a must!

This is a most dreadful reading of a most beloved book. The text has been altered to omit Jo's use of slang words and Amy's misuse of words. The girls sound petulant, and whining, and sickeningly sweet all at the same time. There is not one spark of Jo's spirit. I was terribly disappointed with this recording. What a wonderful thing it would be to hear at least 45 seconds of a recording before making a purchase.
