Fusilli delivers again in "A Well-Known Secret"

Picking up two years after events depicted in "Closing Time" very little has changed for Terry Orr. He still misses his wife and young son and he still isn't writing. He is still doing some private investigator work in the hopes of learning the skills necessary to take down the madman responsible for the pain he and Bella feel.

When his housekeeper asks him to talk to a friend of hers in need, the least he can do is talk to her. The friend's name is Dorotea Salgado and she wants her daughter Sonia Salgado found. One wouldn't think it would be too hard to find her since Sonia only recently got out of prison after serving a thirty-year prison sentence for the murder of a diamond merchant in the course of a robbery. The murder was particularly brutal and Terry wonders from the beginning how a physically small high school student could have done it. He wonders that and a lot more when he finds Sonia dead days later. The case quickly becomes something he can't give up and before long this obsession, like his others, puts him crosswise with everyone around him.

This second novel of the series does not suffer the usual fatal flaws most second novels do. The writing remains top notch as the author continues to expand Orr's world and further nuance the cast of recurring characters. Bella continues to appear smarter than her years to the reader and yet, at other times, there is an endearing child like quality to her known by many parents of the young teenager set. Also realistic is Terry's continuing pain over the loss of his wife and young child as well as his first real tentative steps in returning to the world around him instead of just living day to day. Overriding everything is another complicated and well done mystery where almost everyone has a hidden agenda quite possible worth killing for.

New to me, at least. This is the first book by him that I've read. I loved it.

Talk about atmosphere. This is a gritty NYPD kind of Manhattan book. Some of the police are just a tad better than the criminals and it's not clear who you can trust. The book is set in Manhattan just after 9-11, and the detective-protagonist lives not far from the site. From time to time, some memories of 9-11 are introduced. Everyone is still dealing emotionally with the impact of the attack.

Terry Orr, our detective (he's an independently wealthy but living modestly author turned private investigator), is also recovering from a devastating loss: his wife and infant son had been killed in a random act of violence in the subway, and he is left grieving and raising his daughter by himself. His housekeeper approaches him about a woman who is trying to locate her daughter, who has just been released from prison after serving 30 years for a violent murder. She says she needs to talk to her about her grandchild, the daughter's son she has raised.

Lo and behold, Orr learns that the daughter had no children, so he's left wondering what's going on. Before too long, he gets caught up in a murder investigation.

The writing, plotting, and character development in this book are very good, and it was compelling enough to keep me up long after my bedtime. I only hope his other mysteries are as good. I look forward to reading them.

WOW! Compelling Mystery & Love Story!

If you want a mystery that does nothing but deliver suspense, this is not the book for you. This book opens with a quotation from Epictetus which speaks of the human soul and choice, and concludes: "For ruin and recovery alike are from within." A WELL-KNOWN SECRET offers both a literary mystery and a very engaging exploration of human ruin and recovery.

I see that this is the second in a series. I had not read the first, and found that the book stood on its own.

Terry Orr, our hero, is a writer turned amateur detective. He is engaged to solve mystery of Sonia Salgado, who has spent 30 years in prison for a murder she did not commit. What really happened? Why did she do it? Why was she murdered after being released from prison? Terry unravels this decades-old mystery in classic amateur PI fashion -- asking questions, getting less-than-straight answers, getting a bit battered in the process. That part of the novel is well executed, but not overwhelmingly new and different. What makes A WELL-KNOWN SECRET stand out -- and it does stand out -- is the other stories that Fusilli is telling.

A WELL-KNOWN SECRET is set in post 9-11 New York City. That story of ruin and recovery runs throughout the book. The more personal ruin that we unravel is that of Terry Orr himself. We read in a newspaper story at the beginning of the book that Terry's wife and infant son were killed four years ago. In the course of his solving the mystery, we find out more about what happened and why, and watch to see if and how Terry and his daughter will recover.

A WELL-KNOWN SECRET is a fine novel and an enjoyable mystery. Its somewhat leisurely pace will likely madden anyone after a strict suspense fix. However, if you are willing to slow down a bit, it is a very rewarding read. I found it a bit slow at first, but once hooked, I could not put it down. I read A WELL-KNOWN SECRET in one sitting. I will definitely pick up the next Terry Orr novel!

Amazing writing . . .

For someone only on his second novel, Fusilli certainly has it nailed. Terry Orr, historian turned private detective, lost his wife and infant son four years ago when a madman (whom he thinks of as The Madman) pushed them in front of a subway train. Now he obsesses on revenge, to the detriment of his career, his friends, and (sometimes) his precocious daughter, Bella. The plot this time revolves around a thirty-year-old mugging that became a murder, and the death of the newly-released woman who went to prison for it. Everybody in the case has secrets, not least of all the Mango brothers, who are a good deal more scary than in Fusilli's first book. Terry works things out in a wholly believable manner, partly by research, partly by instinct. The subplot, about Terry's buddy, rock critic Dennis Diddio, and his hopes for an industry award, is funny and compassionate. So is his struggle to deal with the attentions of Julie, a very nice ADA who believes in him. But arching over everything else is New York City in the aftermath of September 11th, when Terry's personal loss is overshadowed. Fusilli's work has great specificity of place -- you could walk through the city, book in hand, and see every detail he talks about -- and that's what makes this a standout piece of writing.

This book is a fantastic work of love. Love for New York, pre and post 9/11, love for music, food (especially Italian) and it's characters.
The central character, Terry Orr, is mourning his wife's death and acts as a sort of detective. His slow progress back to the world of the living parallels his attempts to unravel a mystery from the 70's. It's a great piece of writing, filled with poetry and hard, tough words.
There may be a few too many plot contrivances but the clear picture of modern NYC and the people who fill it more than make up for them. This is a great modern detective novel equal to anything by James Lee Burke, the other master of this type of novel.
I'm psyched for the next book.

I really appreciated this book. #1- I always value a book that involves people's emotional attachment to their animals. #2 - I appreciated the fact that the book could have treaded into uncomfortable territory but didn't. I loved these characters and I felt like I wanted to have them as my friend. an excellent, easy, delightful read- I can't wait to read more of her books.

Everything about this little novel is charming. The characters are, by and large, gentle and literate. The tone is comic and lyrical. The plot is quirky without being off-putting. And best of all for us word-puzzlers--crosswords, puns, anagrams, palindromes, the lot--it's chock full of delightful gems. For instance, not only the book's title but all the chapter titles, too, are themselves palindromes (e.g. 'Pa's a saP') and actually have bearing on the chapter content; Marcus's father really IS a sap. The main character herself, Emily Lime, has a palindromic name. Even her dog, Otto, has one. (Another plus is that most of the characters are animal lovers.)

This is not Great Literature, but it is a Fun Read.

This is one of the most entertaining novels I've read in a long time. It
has everything: young love, an eccentric collection of artists, an
equally odd collection of dogs, and a murder plot. What more can you ask?
Oh yeah -- it's also a page-turner, and laugh-out-loud funny.

Solos, by Kitty Burns Florey, is one of those books to curl up with on a hot summer day, or a cold winter night, or a pleasant fall afternoon or--whenever. It's an absolutely delightful story with a bang-up ending, about people you wish you had for friends. I can't recommend this book highly enough. It sucked me in, made me laugh, and even made me think. Mostly it was just really fun to read and hard to put down. I have been a fan of this writer's books for a few years now,and eagerly look forward to her next!

Reading "Solos" is like spending a weekend with a good friend, who also happens to be witty and charming and can tell a great story. The Williamsburg setting is fun, but even if you're not from THE CITY (even if you're from rural Maine, for example, like I am), the warmth and humor of this book make it worth reading. It's a well-written, intelligent book you don't need to feel guilty about loving! I've been recommending it to all my friends, and those who've read it have enjoyed it as much as I did.

This is a very comprehensive encyclopedia, covering much more than merely equine terminology. The book is filled with information on topics such as equine care and handling, ailments/symptoms and how to address them, equine nutrition, plants that are poisonous to horses, horse anatomy, aspects of showmanship, how to choose an instructor and much much more -- topics too extensive to mention all of them here. You can't go wrong with this book.

Horse lovers and owners should have the Horse-Lover's Encyclopedia as a home mainstay, while public libraries located anywhere near a rural area should have the Horse-Lover's Encyclopedia on their reference shelf. This is a comprehensive, A to Z encyclopedia of horses, from breeds and horse care to stable lore, and provides all kinds of details on everything from caring for hooves to performance and rodeo competition training. Small photos and diagrams throughout make for an excellent, basic handbook on the horse.

First published in 1951, this book is further proof that Archbishop Fulton Sheen, like Pope Paul VI, was a modern-day prophet. I hesitate to call it easy reading, largely because every other sentence is quotable and so packed with meaning that you really need to sit with each thought for a time and let it sink in. Sheen's insights are extraordinary and very timely, perhaps even moreso than in his own day. Although I agree with other reviewers that this book should be required reading for every engaged couple, it would be best if they had a solid priest or some other theologically-trained person to guide them through it.

For me, one passage sums up Sheen's entire argument, which is, of course, also the argument of the Catholic Church: "A man is easy to describe if he has only the material components of a match stick, but it requires more wisdom to define him if he has human freedom and infinite aspirations. If love is mere animal-mating, then any physiologist is its master; if it be a spark from the Divine flame, then one must pray in order to understand its mystery."

I pray that Archbishop Sheen will one day be canonized, so powerful was his influence on America in the 20th century; through reprints of books like this, his influence will continue to grow.

In this book, Sheen at one point states that the true test of whether one really knows a topic is whether one can explain it clearly and simply. If this is true, then Sheen really knows about Love, and the God Who Is Love.

While on the surface this book is about Christian marriage, it ought to be required reading for all Christians. As Sheen explains, there is no love without God, for God is love; just as one cannot explain Christian marriage without true love, one cannot explain true love without explaining the Triune God.

In short, this book is an excellent summary of Catholic teaching not only on marriage, but on everything essential to the faith.

Ruttan excels at writing a crime procedural that twists and turns and is a page-turner. What I love most about her is characters are full of integrity, but she also livens things up with complicated sub-characters who act as villains and propel the action forward. It's also peppered through with social commentary as the characters interact with each other.

This is a great read for anyone who loves meaty crime fiction. Ruttan is a master at her craft.

Arsons, rapes, an alleged rape, child abductions, murders, the bureaucratic politics within police and fire administrations and the various personalities that can either inhibit problem (and crime) solving or enhance it are intertwined (and very tidily so) in Sandra Ruttan's fast-paced thriller, What Burns Within. There are a lot of characters and relationships (father-son, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend/lovers which make the read all the more interesting). As background to the above is a mysterious case (something brutal enough for the referential teasers to enhance the overall intrigue of the story and personal dynamics between the main players - Nolan, Hart & Tain). The author uses clever hooks at the end of each transition between scenes that keep the reader engaged and wanting more (especially so in the last 40 pages which you will read without pause).

Are all the crimes related? What's religion got to do with it? Sometimes the harmless whackos you see on trains, in parks and at bazaars, say, aren't so harmless. If you think that's a tease, start reading What Burns Within and you'll quickly find yourself teased (and racing) to the gripping conclusion. And then you'll still want more.

Fortunately, we'll get it ... in November of this year ... The Frailty of Flesh ... book two in the Nolan, Hart & Tain series ... and the title is more than hook enough for this reader.

Ms Ruttan is off to a great start

Review Date: 2008-05-01
The author is a native of Vancouver, CA and a co-founder of Spinetingler Magazine, an online e-zine devoted to mystery literature. Her background serves her well in this initial entry in an expected series of police procedurals featuring Vancouver police officers.

This minutely and tightly constructed novel has the RMCP striving to solve a series of arsons, child abductions and rapes which, on the surface at least, appear to be unrelated. Three officers previously had been assigned to one difficult case together and have a history. Now each is working his own separate crime until the body of a young abducted girl shows up at an arson site. Now, everything becomes intertwined.

The novel is a classic police procedural, with detailed descriptions of each step along the way. The interactions of the protagonists and human emotions are finely told. The dialogue and writing are excellently presented and the story gripping. Further efforts in the series are greatly anticipated, and the book is highly recommended.

Outstanding Police Procedural!

What Burns Within by Sandra Ruttan marks the debut of a police procedural series, one that is a must-read for anyone who appreciates the genre. The reader follows RCMP Constables Tain, Hart and Nolan through the investigation of three difficult cases, until the officers discover their cases converge.

Tain, Hart and Nolan are three officers who "share a common tendency toward insubordination and independence." They were split up due to fall-out from a difficult case. Now, the Vancouver officers have tough new cases. Tain is dealing with child abduction cases in which young girls have been snatched off the street. Ashlyn Hart works arson fires, until the body of one of the abducted girls is discovered in a fire. And, Craig Nolan is handling the investigation into a serial rapist. Despite their supervisor's attempt to keep them apart, the three investigators discover common links in the cases. Suddenly, they're in the middle of a case that could blow up for the Vancouver RCMP.

Ruttan has created three strong-willed characters, strong officers with a dedication to their job, and an unwillingness to deal with fools. They may share that trait, but Ruttan has given them distinct personalities and backgrounds. She skillfully handles the minor characters as well, from Sergeant Daly to key witnesses, and the abducted girls. The cases are fascinating in this excellent police procedural. What Burns Within is an outstanding debut for a new series. Fans will be waiting for the November release of the follow-up, The Frailty of Flesh.

In his book: Y2K: You Can Burn This Book!, Tom Potter has done an excellent job covering the basic elements all our communities should consider as the Year 2000 approaches. We've all spent many months and considerable resources reconfiguring our hardware and software so they will continue to support our businesses - now we need to look at our personal preparedness efforts and those of our employees. Potter devotes a chapter to each area of fundamental needs (water, heat, power, food, etc), explaining where disruptions might occur and then providing suggestions for different levels of planning. For a detailed resource that follows up on topics mentioned in many preparedness primers, this is just the book you need. ---Deben Tobias, Board of Directors; Business for Social Responsibility

Tom Potter's Y2K: You Can Burn This Book! is an excellent resource for anybody concerned with disaster preparedness. With an emphasis on personal and household preparation, he sets a positive but proactive tone for pursuing these preparation activities. Using his expertise in industrial energy use, he discusses the scope of neighborhood preparation that Boulder > is also concerned about, and offers a broad range of solutions. Potter's book is a great resource for taking that first step toward being informed - and ultimately being prepared. Unlike some of the other Y2K books I looked at, this one offers a reasonable approach to personal, family, and community preparedness. In some ways, it's unfortunate that it's linked to Y2K, because it is such a useful preparedness book. Living in earthquake country, I can really appreciate the author's checklists, worksheets, and insights on how to calculate how much water, food, and energy a family will need to ride out any crisis. Also, the very optimistic outlook and focus on non-violent responses to crises was a unique approach, given many of the other guides that seem focused on seige mentality. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who lives in an area that is subject to earthquakes, floods, blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, or any other possible disasters, including Y2K.

The network of SOME Commission Corp and higher up management officials have at their disposal the IHS to abuse their positions and inflict harm on faithful IHS employees. Ii commend you Mr. Burns on your book. I as an Indian female IHS employee have felt the RATH of IHS and have filed EEO's MSPB,Whistleblow, Office of Special Counsel complaints and no protection is offered to complantants for reprisal. This insanity, misappropriation of funds, abuse of positions and harassment of any form needs to stop. Short of a congressional hearing no one, not even Donna Shalala, seem to care about the abuse within IHS. When all administrative channels are followed, and still nothing is done, What is next? If you want a best-seller write about the complantants who suffer and lose their livelihood and years of dedicated service to managers directors who abuse their positions. People are willing to give you their stories. The only Mission these directors/managers have at heart is their own, a mission of illegal tactics.

I have read this book and followed many of Ms. Lewis' suggestions. As a healthcare professional, I have suffered burnout, numerous times. I was told it came with the job.I love my work but didn't love the stress levels. Ms. Lewis' suggestions are very helpful! I don't overload my schedule nor do I volunter to be everything to everybody anymore. I chose those areas that are near and dear to my heart and stay with them. I am very happy. My stress level is VERY manageable. This book was very helpful and well written so even, I could understand.

Finally! A way to let go and focus on what's important

Mary clearly writes from her experiences which is why this book is superb. An added bonus for me personally is that she comes from the high tech industry. For every roadblock and mindblock I have experienced each chapter of the book has an answer. Mary knows that when you're burned out you can't take having another 'to do' list so she has created a book that tackles one obstacle per chapter. Her personal experiences have provided her with the unique ability to know the order to approach each of the obstacles that need to be worked through. The chapters are short and action oriented. The book gets you moving quickly and easily onto a path of clearing the clutter and achieving what you really want. The beauty of this book is that the exercises apply to both your work and personal life. As a result I can't remember ever having felt as confident, happier and stronger than I do today. Results are quick!

The first step is picking up the book

Exhausted? Frazzled? Can't stand to add even one more thing to your to-do list? You'll want to add following the advice of Mary Lewis...trust me. In "Break FREE from Burnout in 30 Days!" she takes your hand and leads you through a month of life changing, stress relieving tasks that are simple and positive. You will walk away from this book with a better outlook on life.

In the beginning, there were the top ten signs of burnout. If you recognize these things in your life, Mary can help you. Then, taking it one step at a time, one day at a time for a month, you will let go of those top ten signs and be free once more. Steps like not listening to your inner critic, saying no more often, scratching out your to-do list (except for finishing the book!), changing your attitude, changing your peers if need be, stop gossiping and start receiving what you deserve. It's all simple really, and it's all good.

Mary shares her own burnout stories and lets you know that she understands. It happens. But she also challenges you to stop it from happening. You can stop the cycle and you can take your life back. The first step is picking up the book, the second is reading it, one day at a time.

Burnout is not the cost of success

My job was killing me, or so I thought. Like most professionals, I believed that the higher I went up in my career ladder, the more stress I needed to shoulder, and the less time I had to actually live life. I thought that giving 150% was the price for being successful, and that ulcers were a normal part of the rat race.

I was wrong - "the job" doesn't burn you out, your own mindset does! I learned how to stop being a slave to my email, voicemail, celphone and pager, and not only get all my work done, but of a higher caliber than before. This book walks you, step by step, through the process of taking control back and a being truly successful person - happy, healthy, and productive!

A must read for anyone who even suspects they may be burning out, in easy to handle chunks. I highly recommend it.

Mary Lewis has a clear and well thought out style. Instead of trying to change everything at once, she reccommneds a new item a day. Each new way of looking at your worklife builds on what you practiced the day before. Each item is readable in a quick burst instead of long chapters that overwhelm.

The examples are clear and a reflect the things most overacheivers (myself included) believe. Changing those commonly held beliefs allow you to be more productive and more healthy!

HIghly reccommned!

Kit Ehrman's 'Cold Burn' is an engrossing story, well told and full of information about horses. The author's characters are well-drawn and the processes of maintaining horses is given entertainingly without being pedantic. I cared about Steve Cline and his lady-friends. I even cared about the welfare of the horses. With interesting plot twists, 'Cold Burn' was a book worth every minute I invested in it.

Another horse farm, another job for Steve Cline

Steve Cline finds himself delivering foals at a thoroughbred breeding farm in this third entry from Kit Ehrman. He has been asked by Corey Claremont to find her brother Bruce, and Steve has been handed Bruce's old job at Stone Manor Farm. Lucky for him? Maybe.

Steve enjoys the work, although the hours are bit what he's used to. Foal watching happens mostly on the night shift, so he's putting in lots of time between 3 in the morning and noon. As usual, he's working with some different people. Maddie is the woman training him, and she makes it quite clear that she'd be willing to continue the lessons after working hours. This doesn't sit well with Paul, who things they are still together, although Maddie swears she broke it off with Paul months ago. Except she still sleeps with him on a fairly regular basis. So it's understandable that Paul doesn't really believe she doesn't "belong" to him. Was Bruce another one of Maddie's lovers?

Steve discovers that Bruce was dealing dope. This is not a side of her brother that Corey wants to hear about, although she does admit that Bruce had a problem with alcohol. Steve volunteers, sort of, to participate in a "controlled buy" with the local police. Did Bruce disappear as part of a drug deal gone bad? Or is he on the lam after his partner in crime died in a meth lab fire?

Then there are the arsons. Barns are being burned all around Stone Manor Farm. Deirdre Nash, the owner, has a special fear of fires because years ago her fiance died in a barn fire. Are the arsons connected to some of the odd comings and goings at the farm? Is Bruce missing because he connected some dots that he shouldn't have even known about?

Some say Ehrman is the new Dick Francis. I disagree, but not because of the quality of the writing. Ehrman can hold her own against Francis any day of the week. I do think that Steve Cline shares one basic characteristic with just about all of Francis's protagonists: they never do the easy thing. They want to know the truth, no matter what the personal cost may be. Cline's girlfriend Rachel has a hard time with this, but comes to terms with it by the end of COLD BURN.

Ehrman has written another entertaining, informative, engrossing mystery. How many more horse farms will hire Steve Cline? I don't know, but I certainly hope it's quite a few. I look forward to the next entry in the series.

The author obvioulsy has a strong backround in horses, as the details are accurate. In addition, she can write a great story! Its a fun, captivating read! Enjoy!

In Cold Burn, Kit Ehrman's third equestrian novel, Steve Cline is in trouble again. If you've read Ehrman's previous novels,At Risk and Dead Man's Touch, you know that Steve Cline is a risk-taker, he's dogged in his determination to find the truth, and he keeps his word, even in the most horrific circumstances. This time he promises to find out what happened to a friend's brother who disappeared from his job as a stable hand at Stone Manor Farm in Virginia, a clinic and breeding farm operated by beautiful and aristocratic Dr. Deirdre Nash. To get information, Steve takes over the missing man's underpaid, grueling, dirty, and often mind-numbing job. His struggle to find the truth is all uphill. He has to put up with another hand's jealousy because he gains Dr. Nash's approval by his newly-acquired skill in delivering foals. He has to resist his seductive boss, Maddie. There are mysterious nocturnal horse deliveries. He keeps getting hurt. And to make the whole thing worse, an arsonist is at work. Cold Burn starts with a blazing bank barn uncomfortably near Stone Manor and races through a series of often-violent events until the dramatic climax. Ehrman uses realistic imagery and detail to describe the world of a breeding farm. The description is so masterful that it's almost possible to smell the muck that has to be so laboriously raked up all the time. We don't forget the visual picture of a mare bolting out of the stable with the afterbirth dangling, or the sounds that a mare makes in labor. The scrupulous attention to detail when Ehrman describes the barns, equipment, and procedure, gives the reader a lesson in Breeding Farm 101. That realism extends to the behavior and motivations of the characters. A perfect balance. In Cold Burn, Ehrman has written a compelling book about a young man's honorable quest to find a missing person. In his investigation, Steve learns more about himself and about human nature in general.

If i were to recomend this book I would have given it a five star. The reason why I choose this book is because my cousin said that it was a good book to read and tells you how this girl gets through her troubles. It has also wanted me to go on a mission and learn all of these wonderful things. What I think the aurthor intended the audience is to learn how to be more curtiouse to others and you now have and idea about how handicap people survive and you have an idea about what they are thinking of. One thing I have learned from this book is dont stare at people who are diffrent from us. I think I would recommend this book to a friend. Oh and the book also tells how a girl likes this kid but she thinks he is only talking to her because her brother told him to be nice to her. Does he even like her? Find out and check out this book at you local library.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Emily is truly a great book to read. If you have had strugles in your life that have been hard to go through, or you didnt understand everything that has been placed in front of you (certian obsticals) than you will love this book. Jack Weyland clearly proved, yet again, that he is a great writer. With Emily on your book shelf you will be satisfied and entertained with a great book.

The book starts out with Emily just leaving high school. You learn that she is practically in love with her older brothers best friend Austin, who is two years older than her, and thinks of her as a little sister. He leaves on his mission going through things and exsperiances that change his life, and teaches him life long lessons. While he is away, Emily goes to college, and meets new people. She becomes an new confedent person who is ready to get out there and tackle the world. But when a tragedy strikes her life, she learnes that it will never be the same again.

As she goes through some of her trials, Austin comes back from his mission, and when they get together to pick off where they left ("friends") they learn things about themselves and each other that could change them for life- and -eternity. This book will touch your heart and make you think. Throughout the whole book you will laugh, cry, and wish that Emilys life will turn out like "happy ever after." You will love this book from the first page to the last.

This is a great book. Every time I read another Jack Weyland, I love his writing even more. The inside cover reads,"Nineteen-year-old Emily Latrell has always been infatuated with her brother's best friend, Austin Brunswick. But Austin is two years older than Emily and just home from his mission. He's always had other girlfriends, and though Emily has grown up dramatically during his absence, she can't imagine the handsome returned missionary having any romantic interest in her. Especially not after her tragic experience. Clearly, the attention that he pays he is the result of a promise he made to her brother, Jeremy, and she decides to give Austin the brush-off. But it's not that easy to change your heart. Jack Weyland's latest book about young love and overcoming adversity is filled with spiritual insight, fun, and romance. You'll fall in love with Emily and wonder what it's going to take for Austin to see the light. Theirs is a story you won't soon forget." I simply adored this book!!! I really cried through the whole book. This is a great book.

Okay, maybe this wasn't as good as "Charlie," but "Emily" is still a delightful book. The story is of that of Emily and Austin. Austin is the best friend of Emily's brother, and her lifelong crush. Austin leaves on his mission, burdened by his parents' high expectations. Emily goes off to college to become a tv anchorwoman, but suffers a tragic accident. Both characters are delightful and realistic, people you could get to know. The book is, at times, serious and spiritual, but as always, the author makes us all laugh with the humor he throws in. "Emily" is a wonderful lesson about what a servant in Christ really is. So read it!
