A novel for the millenium, Sick Burn Cut takes us back to pre-Microsoft Seattle, the days of Guns 'n Roses. Mary, a man in a dress, captivates and activates a small group of compatriat guerrilla drag queens for whom mere survival is a matter of survival. They take on the Mall Rats and the Dictators, feuding drug lords and gangs - Mary and her companion, Sayid Huysayn. Meanwhile a group of highschool kids in Spokane Washington form a cult of the Divine Virgin Mary. The two Mary's, who are never conscious of each other's existence, begin the spin a web of intrigue with the promise of great meaning lying behind the banality of suburban discontent. I was having a really bad summer, 'til I read this book!!! Deran Ludd is William Burrough's grandson. Which is not to say that Sick Burn Cut is Burroughs redux. Ludd takes the sensibility and tosses it into a 90's context Burroughs could barely have handled ('cuz he was too old).

This book is very helpful in understanding sin and the nature of it. Why even the "littlest" sins are not little at all, in the eyes of the Creator. Discusses Mortal and Venial sin and how that every time we sin, we are nailing up our Lord to the Cross once again. How every sin we commit we are also slowing killing, (if it is not already dead) our souls and pushing our Lord away from us. I recommend it to anyone who has trouble with a certain vice they are trying to overcome. This will indeed make you more aware of what ought to be done to save one's soul.

As an architecture student that wanted to understand landscape urbanism better for a studio project it was a great start. The introduction allows you to get a feel for what L.U. is about, and then breaks down the essays so if you are looking fro something specific you can turn right to the essay and read away.

Easily worth the price. I first heard this over 10 years ago, and I've been looking for a copy ever since. Irreverant, and thought provoking. Once you hear it, you'll never forget it. Philosophy Majors would especially love this, but it's funny to just about anyone.

Hi, folks, and welcome to the world of Kindle.

I'm a consultant turned novelist. I'd like to say I'm a John Grisham of the business world, but my writing style is definitely more James Patterson.

[...]. Throughout my travels, I marvel at the excitement in the world of business, and was yet, surprised at how little we see in terms of good business novels.

So as an arrogant consultant, I decided to write one. Set in modern day Japan, The Sky Burns Red follows the deal maker king of Japan as he uncovers a conspiracy within the trans-Pacific Airline industry that could topple the government of Japan. With tensions escalating because of the conduct of US troops on Japanese soil and the growing nationalism in the Far East, this novel is a reminder that businesses are inevitably tied to the socio-political environment.

Three junior high school girls out on a date with US Servicemen are brutally raped. A struggling US airline announces a major strategic alliance with the national carrier of Japan. Demonstrations spread throughout Japan to throw out the Yanks. Kentaro Kawakami weaves through the intricate web so that he could seal the deal of the century. And in his quest for economic supremacy, he faces the ghosts of his own past--a failed marriage and a destroyed family life. When he meets an angel in the sky, his life is turned around.

The Sky Burns Red was translated into Japanese and released there by major publisher Gentosha. In the US, you can only get it through Kindle.

The little landholders that could

As of 2005, one-half of the world's forests have been cut down. Slowing deforestation's a worldwide concern. Agonizing over what Virginia Tech calls the wildland-urban interface isn't an easily solved problem. Solutions affect the well-being of individuals, nations, nature, and the world. For cutting down forests clears lands of homes for animals, birds, bugs, and plants. It clears lands of necessary carbon and organic material. It clears the way for greenhouse gases.

Small landholders are usually blamed for clearing forests, because of overworked soils and their families' needing extra money and more food. The book's about the tropics in general and Brazil, Cameroon, Indonesia, Peru, and Thailand in particular. It finds, except for Cameroon, most deforestation's done by large landholders and migrants. Large landholders are always clearing forests, for more large-scale cattle ranching, commercial logging, and export farming. Successful land use draws migrants. Migrants clear forests, because colonists, large landholders, settlers, and squatters fill the available space.

So forests are cut down, because deforestation's profitable, and there's no obviously workable choice. Not much can be done about large landholders. How they use their lands is linked to the world market. They export their cash crops, cattle ranching products, timber, and wood products. So how they use their lands makes their countries part of the world market community of trade, technology, money, and credit.

But small landholders use their lands to support their families and sell to local markets. How can they do otherwise than grow garden vegetables and food crops? They're trapped by high transportation costs and poor transportation means. They work soils low in nitrogen and phosphorous but high in aluminum. They can't afford lime treatments; fertilizers; and engineered, instead of local, seedlings. Local market prices tend to be low. So when they need more money, they try off-farm work and illegal logging.

SLASH-AND-BURN AGRICULTURE suggests another money-maker. Why not pay small landholders not to clear forests? But tropical countries can't pay for that or for making sure forests won't be cleared. They need any extra money to be spent on better roads, job opportunities, housing, health and education. So why not get the money from the world market community? The entire world benefits from slowed-down deforestation.

Editors Cheryl A Palm et al organize the book well. The chapters give clear examples, facts, illustrations, and references, along with some guesses and suggestions. The writing gets a bit academic. But the contributing writers still bring us up to speed on how, what, when, where, who, and why of slash-and-burn deforestation.

_Slow Burn_ is not for the faint-of-heart. People are spontaneously combusting all over Dallas, Texas, and the heroines have to figure out why before they explode themselves.Roxanne Longstreet's protagonists are unusual - a pickpocket and a hooker with a heart of flint - but Longstreet makes the reader care about her characters. The plot keeps you guessing, the writing keeps you involved. Read this book, but not on a dark, stormy night when you are all alone.

I found this book to be exceptionally insightful for anyone who is interested in intelligence operations deaing with defeating a highly motivated and organized enemy. Having spent two tours in Iraq, there is no other book I can more strongly recommend for anyone, especially intelligence professionals, trying to obtain some very valuable "lesson's learned" in understanding the HUMINT aspects of the global war on terrorism.

Librarian, stripper, and author, Crystal Reed is at the end of her book tour when she stops at a local Miami radio station to be interviewed. From the moment she steps into the sound booth, she feels drawn to Garrett Vartan, the disc jockey. It seems as if he has actually read her book and Crystal is aroused by his countenance and Texas looks. As they are walking to their cars, she gives him her card with her phone number on it hoping he will call her and later that night he does. Crystal can't wait to see him again, but she is scared to death of him finding out her secret.

Radio disc jockey Garrett Vartan is intrigued by Crystal Reed. She is not what he expected at all. Attracted to her, he is pleasantly surprised when she gives him her card with her phone number. Listing the many reasons why he shouldn't call her, Garrett doesn't listen and dials the phone. Thirty minutes later, she is meeting him at the door to her apartment.

Slow Burn by Madison Chase grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. Fully understanding Crystal's hang-ups and insecurities, I kept hoping that Garrett would be man enough to take care of her and make her believe in the power of love. Slow Burn made me sweat and tingle and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

A compelling and thrilling look behind the life on the outer Scottish islands. The setting serves beautifully to highlight the eerie feeling of mounting suspense. Marten Claridge has a knack for character and dialogue, and a gift for description. I was thoroughly caught up, and enjoyed every minute spent, a glass of single malt in one hand and this tale of murder in the other...
