This guide book gives you all you need to get to an area to climb and leaves just enough out that the fun in finding the area is still part of the climbing trip. Great route discriptions, this should be a must for your guide book collection for when you are off on that wild road trip you can stop and get some climbing in before or after you have crossed that great void known as Kansas.

Comic Strips as Good as the Stories

Peter O'Donnell created a rarity in Modesty Blaise. She is fully as believable and engaging in her novels and stories as she is in the long-running comic strips. She and her partner Willie cross back and forth as easily as they go from daily life to the beginning of a caper. The strips are classics. I'm collecting all of them, and I already have all the books. Modesty is just irresistable.

I loved it...but I've loved all of Nancy Kennedy's books. I identify with her ups and downs. What mother--if honest--has not wanted to pack it in and just run away at some point. Nancy's books are down-to-earth and something I can identify with. They are substantive, and side-splittingly funny.

Awesome -- 1st Rate -- True-Crime Buff's Dream
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 1999-08-26
This is one of, if not, THE best true-crime book I've read. . . and, believe me, I've read almost all of them. What a page-turner!!! Finally a true-crime book that doesn't give away the ending, but let's you see the engrossing tale spin out before you. Just when you think you know all of the secrets of the Benson family, another one appears. . . and you can't stop reading and wanting for more. I was so intrigued by the book (and the author's gripping writing style) that I did some legal research to see how the various court cases involved in the story were resolved. A true-crime buff's dream!!!!!

This is a wonderful book. I enjoy reading it as much as my 4 year old daughter loves to hear it. It helps her recognize her numbers as well as teaches her how to rhyme.

I visited Syria last August (the hottest summer since 1927) using Ross as my Bible. It is a superb guidebook for those seriously interested in art and archaeology. I would not go to Syria without it.

Maggie Malone and Julia Chandler have been best friends since grade school. On Julia's sixteenth birthday, she asks Maggie to help her break out of the Sunnyvale Memorial Hospital where her parents have sent her to try and get control over her life-threatening bulimia. Julia doesn't know where she wants to go, she just knows that if she doesn't leave the hospital she will die.

So Maggie, good friend that she is, walks out on her job at the bank and she and Julia take off in Maggie's old VW Bug. All goes well the first day but on the second day of their road trip, the Bug dies. Stranded in a campground, their unlikely rescuers turn out to be Jack and Ean, a pair of twenty-something guys driving an old VW bus to Oregon, who invite the girls to travel with them.

The story follows their travels for the next nine days, as they meet some of the most unforgettable characters imaginable, from a pregnant hooker who's found God to a frustrated artist/cafe-owner who sells LSD on the side.

As they travel, Maggie discovers within herself the strength to reject the life her parents have mapped out for her and finally choose her own path in life as an artist; and to accept that she cannot change Julia, only stand by her as she struggles with her own demons.

This is an extremely well-written book, showing the extraordinary bonds of love and acceptance.

Our family loves the book, Mr. Mooney and Pesky Beamer's Close Call. The author Penny (Pfister) Newland has a great imagaination for the humourous side of her story. Then she takes control of the story again, making you feel the love and compromises Mr. Mooney goes through to the very end. The story is a reality check for all of us, it makes you look at the value of "LOVE" what it means to each of us. The book comes in a soft cover. My kid's have turned the pages so many times that the book is almost wore out. I would like to see this book in hardback, it's witty!

Simone de Beauvoir and Sade
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 34 total.
Review Date: 2002-09-28
SdB wrote a book on Sade entitled Faut-il Bruler Sade? (Must We Burn Sade), and the title of this collection comes from hers. Sade is a great concern among the French left. Somehow they think that he is an important moralist (this is how SdB closes her book on him, and why she says we mustn't burn him, but must read him, and hold him close to our hearts).

I've read a lot of Sade's work, and a lot of this collection, but am left wondering whether once you dispense with God, whether this is all that's left.

Feminism has always struck me as institutionalized sadism. It burns men, and destroys them. This is the essence of it. Sade is a great justifier of acts as he puts a moral spin on what is the equivalent of getting fun out of hurting other people.

Women in recent years have turned towards Sade as a great explicator and justifier. This is why men on average are living five years less than women. It is all the things they do to us, and have always done, but that are now institutionalized. The feminist-sadist guru is Simone de Beauvoir, who loves the Marquis de Sade, and considers him to be a great moralist.

Read this book and smell the burning flesh of the concentration camps of the universities, the high schools, and the elementary schools. Sadism is the centerpiece of the left, and the very centerpiece of feminism. It is the black heart at the center of all the piety and self-importance, a black hole of rage that gets satisfaction through the humiliation, torment, and destruction of men and boys.
