This series attempts to make math fun, and for the target audience (ages 6-8 in this case), maybe they'll succeed.

Jeff wants to be the best - at almost anything! His friends are better at baseball, sledding, leaf raking... and he's determined to come up with something he can win. When he decides to make the biggest snowman ever, he and Maria each make one and then measure them to see whose is bigger.

I'm all for anything that even tries to make math more fun for kids, so the 5 stars is more for that than for the content, which is just okay. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the activities pages at the back of the book are full of fun stuff that all relates to using math. Not bad at all - for a book about math!

I'm very glad I read the Fidget Factor. It was short, simple, and motiviating. Just reading through the different activities I learned that at almost every point in my day I can find opportunities to move, just a little more. I work 70-80 hours per week and have trouble finding time to exercise. Reading this showed me that there are many little things I can do to increase my level of physical activity, and burn extra calories. Michelle

This volume is one of the most elegant books I have read - it should be read by everyone with some sense of spirituality, or for anyone that has any inclination to question the rationale of a Loving Spirit in a world racked with insecurity and hate.

The reading can be done in less than 45 minutes - although the arguments that he makes are hardly complicated, the examples he conveys are concise, but still inspiring. The pinnacle of why violence and unhappiness occur are precisely examined for the lay audience, without any deep theological or technical details.

I had forgotten how timeless the prayer of Francis of Assisi was - it is beautiful writings like this and its inclusion by Jean Vanier that convince you of the infinitude of the written word, and its Higher purpose. What makes this work so unique is its accessibility, consistent in spirit with the idea of encouraging humility and compassion, and motivating the reader to remove oneself of any sanctimony or arrogance by addressing the search within.

Humanity can only understand the violence in these dark times by redefining that Peace means more than shows of courtesy and tolerance, but something within each one of us that needs some Divine help, especially if we are sincere about making peace, and not just abhorring violence.

This is a great undiscovered book. I happened across it and was quite thrilled! Countless 14th,15th and 16th century woodcuts, some I have never seen before (and I collect them) to go along with the eerie stories. Some I have heard before, some were brand new. All in all a great book if you love folklore, old witch stories and old woodcuts.

This book is a great quick read for those that dont get time to read or don't enjoy reading much. We all really need to be warned before destruction. It compells you to strive to do and be better. To be your best through Christ. It has urged me to do the impossible, to be unlike the world. time for change,we need and long for better. this world we live in today is not getting better, but worse and it needs a turn around. so I urge everyone to purchase this because people need to know that God loves them and to know the truth honestly and boldly.

This calendar is composed of photographs of handsome and virile men who, in fact, are people who make a MAJOR AND IMPORTANT CONTRIUBTION TO THE WELL-BEING OF SOCIETY. These guys are REAL, not overly groomed models who simply parade their wares. Thanks guys...and...uh...WOOF!!

Poetry which was nominated for a Pushcart Prize are included within The Flesh Procession, a determined and inspirational collection of brief yet impacting free-verse poems by Suzanne Burns. Vivid, sometimes shocking images impress upon the mind pictures of unflinching and sometimes brutal truths, of good, evil, and the selfishness of human nature. Blonde boy with St. Vinnie cardigans, / like you expected canonization too soon, / an X Generation saint / both fallen and glorified, / rock-n-roll throne abdicated / by a lonely trigger / and a full syringe.

Why Not a Movie?
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-07-18
As a student of Sub-Saharan Africa I found this history of British Empire propaganda efforts through cinema showings in Rhodesia fascinating reading. This is the stuff of great drama -- the British investment in moving picture development and censorship efforts directed at forging a "tool of Empire" in order to pacify Africans and assimilate them into the new colonial order. Most of othe propaganda tools later employed by the Nazis in Germany and the Soviets in Russia were originally in play in the prolonged and heavily subsidized business of developing a cinema oriented to promoting the white rule administrations. The book is a fast paced, engrossing read -- if there is one criticism to be levied it seems that perhaps in the interest of brevity the author passed over quickly some of the engrossing tales of how certain motion pictures were required to be bowdlerized in order to negotiate them into a colonial atmosphere. For example, a full chapter might have been devoted to the reaction of the Rhodesian natives to cowboy movies, a campaign that stretched over decades, changing in scope and intent to accommodate the growing sophistication of the native audiences. Has anyone made an attempt to produce a motion picture not centered in the Hollywood concept of African colonialism? Perhaps the author has this in mind for a future project -- I would look forward to watching a drama concerned with Rhodesian cinema development in a style of "Out of Africa" presentation, demonstrating the power of film to shape credulous audiences, and how that same influence backfired in fomenting political unrest and revolution.

I used to fish with Brad Burns in the 80's and have to say that he is the best fisherman, and best story teller, that I have ever fished with. This is saying a lot considering all the characters I have met on the water. Brad has an uncanny knack for finding fish and discovering how to lure them to a fly. In addition he has a talent for translating his experiences to the printed page. This book is another example of his lucid and informative style, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try fly fishing in our coastal waters.
