Written by former teacher Virginia Law Burns especially for young adults, Bold Women in Michigan History collects the true stories of courageous women who helped make Michigan the proud state it is today. I have worked in education and history museums for 20 years, and I have yet to find a more complete and entertaining guide for "doing" local history. Burn Baby Burn, the second novel featuring Alphonse "Dave" Davecki, is billed as a Superior arson mystery and it delivers as just that. It is indeed a superior arson mystery novel. Savage does not disappoint as his quirky detective investigates a serial arsonist, or arsonists, with a new partner, the beautiful "Bubba" Carlstrom. The reader is introduced to some rather interesting, and some rather downright oddball characters as Davecki pursues his nemesis.

True to Savage form, the book is as much about place as it is plot and makes for a neat tour of some of the high, and low, points of Superior Wisconsin, as well as the twin cities. Overall a nice fast paced book with some laughs and some shudders.

The Vademecum series of medical handbooks is designed to be a convenient, carry-along range. As would be expected from a book compiled by one of the world's most respected burn centres, this small volume gives an excellent overview of current burn management. All aspects of burn management are covered, from pre-hospital care to final rehabilitation. Emanating as it does from a First-World burn centre, the emphasis is on the hospital management of major burns. This is an inexpensive, small. Comprehensive volume, which will be of value to medical students, registrars and practising physicians and should be available to all personnel involved in any way with the care of burn patients.

A new title; a new format for the book and the individual chapters; and lower price, all intended to make the book more readily and easily accessible to the physician, dietitians, nurses, and other professional that provide care to burned patient.

As poetry goes, fame comes last. George Wallace, if I was in charge, would be herald the minstrel mountain troubadog of joyous bark and babble. A true wizard in the art of language, as beat, paint or something to stand in. By and away the furthest word from a man of mouth. The last 10 or so poems in this collection could alone blow your head into cupcakes. It did me. Recommended highly.
