Written by co-pastors and proud parents John and Helen Burns, What Dads Need to Know about Daughters, What Moms Need to Know About Sons is a simple, sensible guide to raising children that pays especial attention to what children need to have and learn from their opposite-gender parent. John Burns carefully explains what mothers need to know about their sons, and Helen Burns gives the inside scoop on what fathers need to know about their daughters. Though written from a Christian perspective, What Dads Need to Know about Daughters, What Moms Need to Know About Sons is overall a solid and sensible parenting guide for readers of all backgrounds. "It's good for a dad to encourage his daughter to use her talents and develop her skills to the best of her ability. But many parents have a tendency to only notice what is lacking in their children's performances and point out those deficiencies. A dad, with his natural sense of competitiveness, can be especially critical of a daughter's performance in competition. In a little girl's mind, this criticism often translates into a sense of inadequacy and an unhealthy pressure to become 'what Daddy wants,' rather than the unique and special woman God intends her to be." Highly recommended.

Finally, a book that deals with the least-discussed issues in parenting! John and Helen Burns tackle relevant topics, such as raging teenage male sexuality and the way in which otherwise caring fathers often distance themselves from daughters as the girls enter puberty. The authors offer compassionate advice, sharing strategies that have worked within their own family. Reading the book is like sitting down to tea with close friends--safe, warm, and uplifting. It will bring hope to any parent, regardless of the age of his/her children.

Excellent book. It helps the students focus on what they really are trying to show.

Writing in Math Class is a great resource for any teacher interested in teaching writing across the curriculum. I have used many of the ideas in this book, including how to use math journals, but I think my favorite is asking students to write their own math authobiography, what their math life has been like before coming to me. In North Carolina our 4th graders take an open ended test in the fall where they do math problems and then explain what they did--this book will help teachers get students ready for this test and teach the children some very important skills in the process!

This book is an exciting and fast read. It's excellent.
It was written by a woman who overcame severe dyslexia in her childhood. She's a great example of a success story.

I listen to Jim Burns' "HomeWord" program fairly often --- he tends to have guests that I enjoy. Burns is one of my favorite writers on family topics. This book is well-written and points you in the direction of wise priorities as you build your family --- even if you are starting over after divorce.

I haven't bought the book yet, but I borrowed it from a girlfriend who thought I might find something to complain about. Both writer's are not as abrasive as I thought they would be although the Black author (Burns) is really judgmental about how and what Black men should do. He also takes a lot of effort to state that Black men are the root problem in the Black community. He does address different issues that exist which create problems for Black men but he still states that if Black men get right then the race will benefit. As far as the White author is concerned, he comes off pretty much in the way I expected a young White man to sound. Until he is forced to answer a hypothetical question about sending his own kids to an all Black inner city school. It is at this point the book is most effective. However, I still think the book is incomplete, which may be a tactic by the authors to revisit the book at a later date. They ask questions which both men should answer but they just let the last answer stand without addressing the answers given. You could tell they both wanted to go back and answer because they would start certain answers by saying something about another question before moving on.

Overall the book is great for bringing up questions, but it could have been better so I should give it 4 stars. But I won't since I think it took a lot for these two guys to honestly speak about race in a public manner. I highly recommend the book for as a change of pace. I also think that even though it is not as stuffy and self righteous as a Shelby Steele or Cornell West race book it does give both sides a chance to talk, and it brings a new generation into the discussion on race.

The author is a doctor who specialises in gastroenterology and while this is quite clinical it's also informative about how Celiac/Coeliac disease presents itself, is diagnosed and can be lived with. While it is short and to the point he also points you to other resources and the index is extensive.

A book to read if you have, or suspect you have Coeliac/Celiac disease and to reference often.

The book called THE PRAYER OF JABEZ was phenominal with an awakening power of the Holy Spirit's call to spiritual Israel to awake and receive the blessings that God has already bestowed upon us. I pray this prayer everyday. It is on my refrigerator as a reminder to pray and thank God for His blessings that He has already promised in His Word to His children. The prayer of Jabez is found in I Chronicles 4:9-10. After the author of Chronicles has gone through the long list of members in the family tree of the Hebrew tribes, he comes to the tribe of Judah. The reader has to read forty-four names of the descendants of Judah's tribe in chapter 4 before the short story, consisting of only two verses that many of us have missed when reading through the Bible, shines through. I had missed this light previously. It was only through the leadership of the Holy Spirit, which came through several Christian friends, that I finally read the book and received the richness of the contents of this Godly prayer. Bruce Wilkinson challenges us as Christians to believe and receive the blessings that are rightfully and legally our own. I am praying this prayer for myself, my family, and my church. I am claiming the power of God in my life which He continues to reveal in and through His people by the workings of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that gives life to the Word. He quickens His Word in us and the Word becomes alive in us and flows out of us revealing God's power in and through us. Our faith in Him and our belief that He is working in us will motivate us to act upon what He has promised. This action of faith on our part will release the power of God for us and bring about changes in our lives. We will be blessed, indeed and our borders and territories will be enlarged. God will be faithful to keep us from evil that we may not cause grief or be grieved. The power of God is unlimited. Bless us, indeed, Lord. Enlarge our territory - the whole world is God's territory and we are His heirs and joint heirs. He is our Keeper. He keeps us from evil. When we are weak, He is strong. He knows how to stretch us and make us His warriors. If you, as a Christian, are ready for the transformation that God has available for His people, read this book. As Bruce Wilkinson says in His book, "You know beyond a doubt that you were redeemed for this." I want to encourage God's people to behold the identity that God has given to us! We are not paupers. We are priests and kings through Christ Jesus! We all need to claim our blessings that God has bestowed upon us.

I am a nurse who works in the Progressice Care Unit of Exeter Hospital. I use to be a Med-Surg Nurse for 7 years prior to this job. I have found this book a great resource for my new position. I also plan on using this book when I work toward certification in the future. Great Purchase!!!!

This is a compendium of data on plants from the boreal forest which are used for food, or medicine, or in a variety of ways for handicrafts (in the ample sense of the word). It fills a growing need for ethnobotanic scripture, when much knowledge is being lost because it is «old-fashioned». The data are presented in an easy-to-use format of one species per page (more-or-less), and cover the three aspects of use already mentioned, as well as the known names in Chipewyan, Cree, English, French, Latin, Ojibwe, and Slave. Anything known about chemical properties is also included. This is truly an in-depth compilation, and shows us that there is more in the forest than moss and spruce trees (and unsuspected uses even for these).

Great book! Teaches you how to achieve independence. Great exercises for bass drum. Strongly recommend for somebody who is starting out, or even intermediate level.
