This is a great gift book for anyone who has anything to do with either cats or solar energy. I was very disappointed not to find it amongst Amazon's extensive inventory.

The Solar Cat Book is a great introduction to solar energy using cats as a model system. Augustyn teaches us about solar energy and heat flow mechanics through a series of small stories and jokes. The illustrations and cartoons are not to be missed. Although one of the reviews suggests that children can read this book, I think that it is intended and is more appropriate for adults. It is really a shame that this book is out of print. I think that it should be revived!

What I love about this book is that Bergner is not saying to psychotherapists: "Start over! Forget what you've been doing!" Instead, he clearly lays out some ways to make what they are already doing more effective. Plus it's short, easy to read and has interesting case studies that illustrate his approach. I would even recommend it to the general reader who would like to understand what psychotherapists do and how people change.

This small book takes the complexity of pschotherapy principles and carefully enhances those by suggesting simple ways to proceed and the sense in which to do so.

The author rightfully intends the audience to be practitioners. It takes a seasoned practioner to appreciate the depth and guidance Dr. Bergner provides.

This is one of a kind and truely special. I very much appreciate this contribution.

Great book and lots of fun to read aloud. This book could be read as a math book-(division, sets), or, find all the children who are not following the rules, different ways to line up and more. I read it on the first day of school and again when we start division-for first grade. I leave it out for a independent reader's choice book. The kids always like this book both read to them and as a reader. Because of the vocabulary, it is not an easy reader-upper first?. The short length helps lower the reading grade level.

My kids aged 5 and 6 really enjoyed the book. Especially since i doubled up the reading with a simultaneous activity with 12 dolls/toy figures put together in a line. As we read, the kids arranged the 12 dolls in the same manner that the teacher in the book wants from her students. My younger child who is not very comfortable with numbers, got to play around with 12 pieces understanding that they can be arranged any which way to add up to 12 all the time. She also taught herself to learn to make x number of rows with equal number of kids. My older daughter immediately got the concept that 4 rows of 3 kids means the number 3 kept in a row 4 times, which i told her means 3 multiplied by 4. Another thing that happened was that the kids learnt the meaning of 'a dozen' and 'pairs' and 'rows'. English is not our mother tongue and though the kids speak english most of the time, specialised words such as these dont get to be spoken.
The book has repeat value as now it has become a 'family game' and they want me to read the book again and again so they can arrange their dolls again and again.

I enjoyed this book very much, and will return to it over and over to enjoy the excellent reproductions of Brosen's highly realistic watercolors. His work is unique and compelling. I also enjoyed the artist's descriptions and information, given as picture captions, about the scenes he painted. There are also highly readable vignettes with each chapter, focussing on a local, long-term resident of the area of NYC that that chapter pictures. A fine read, but an even more beautiful LOOK.

Sort of a Chris Van Allsburg feel

It's extremely well-executed photo realism with pencil + watercolor, and
the artist has chosen buildings/scenes which are architecturally strong
and visually rich so as to let his technique really shine. However, the
real strength, I think, is actually the artist's ability to impart a
dreamlike quality (reminiscent of children's book illustrator Chris Van
Allsburg). This elevates the book to a whole different, more evocative
level, so that you stop marveling at the technique and start thinking of
the subject matter itself. Anyone who loves New York should love this
book.

In Student cultural diversity: Understanding and meeting the challenge by Eugene Garcia (2002) address the issue of linguistic and cultural diversity among students in American schools. Based on a robust amount of empirical research, the author persuades his readers to adapt new learning strategies to provide English Language Learners (ELL) students with equal educational opportunities, such as understanding the students' cultural and individual development, building partnerships between home and school, and implementing appropriate teaching methods that enhance diversity. To further persuade his readers, Garcia introduces a new perspective on education called a new pedagogy, which allows for respect and integration of the students' values, beliefs, and experiences. He stresses the importance of enhancing learning through providing instruction in a context that is socio-culturally, linguistically, and cognitively meaningful to the learner (p. 19).
The author's ideas and thoughts are well articulated. He doesn't merely offers his opinions and views, but instead, he refers to the findings of many studies in the area of linguistic and cultural diversity. Although his writing style is rather complex at the beginning of the book, as the author incorporates many sociological, psychological, anthropological and cognitive studies to elucidate individual development theories and the many aspects of culture, his writing alters to a simpler form towards the middle of the book. He incorporates studies that more directly pertain to the issue of linguistic and cultural diversity, and therefore are easier to be understood.
Furthermore, the use of tables and real life experiences are most often utilized to bolster the author's effectiveness of presenting information. Characteristics of direct instruction and instructional conversation, or schooling transformation: what is and what ought to be, are presented in a table form which ensures better visual understanding. In addition, the author also includes "becoming a responsive teacher" sections, which incorporate real life experiences of students and teachers in American schools.
Information provided through this book provides immense contributions to educating linguistically and culturally diverse students. It provides educators with teaching strategies that effectively meet the educational needs of these students, such as integrating students' culture in the curriculum or mediating instruction by using the student's native language and English for instruction. Moreover, the author stresses the importance of providing linguistically and culturally diverse students with a learning environment that addresses and enhances their differences. Factors that would contribute to creating such environment include various school practices such having a vision defined by the acceptance and valuing of diversity, treatment of classroom practitioners as fellow professionals in school development decisions, and elimination of policies that apply categories to diverse students that render their educational experiences inferior or limiting for future academic learning (p. 121).
Personally, I have found this book very informative. Garcia not only presents the challenges associated with educating linguistically diverse students, but also offers an array of solutions to effectively meet the educational needs of these students. This book also confirms my beliefs about the American system of education. As the author states: "schools practice a subtractive accumulation, often identified as assimilation, aimed at replacing the old culture with the new" (p.79).

I don't like to review books, but I love the couple in the books "It Takes Two" and "Three's A Charm" and so will you. Mini & Reuban are a witch and warlock who have been punished by the high council and are earth bound for a while. This delightful couple will enchant you. They still find ways to charm the lucky humans who come into their reach, as will Mini's "feline" companion. I just wish Adrienne Burns would give us a third installment of this charming couple's hijinks!

After two centuries of marriage, Mini and Reuben Costello have never fallen this low. Due to the antics of his friend, the Witch Council stripped Reuben of his Warlock powers before sending him to live among the mortals. His spouse Mini voluntarily joined her beloved husband. Now they live in an apartment, struggle with human frailties such as cooking, and earning a living working at the Romance Connections dating service.

qJuvenile psychologist, Dr. Lance Wilder has not dated in four years or since his wife died. His friend Casey sets him up with Romance Connections. Lance reluctantly goes for his interview where he meets owner Holly Wentworth. The two humans are instantly attracted to one another. However, he suffers from the ghost of his first wife and his own father's lack of love towards him. She believes in fairy tale love, but not for her. Mini and Reuben decides they are meant for one another and plan to insure the duo connects.

THREE'S A CHARM is a humorous blending of a contemporary romance with major magical elements. The story line is breezy, enchanting, and simply fun to read. The characterizations are strong, leaving readers enchanted by Lance and Holly while believing in witchcraft. Adrienne Burns casts a spell on her audience that will send fans in search of her other works.

This is an excellent book. The author writes about the early Vanderbilt Cups, the Savannah races and early Indy 500's. It is lively and easy to read. All parts fit together well and the author also discusses current events around the world that happened during the times of the races. I'be been reading books about automobile racing for over 40 years and this was one of my favorites. I hope Mr. Burns has more books in the pipeline.

A great read! My interest in history led to my reading this recommended book. Not only does the author write the history, but also he connects this history to events in the U.S. and abroad. A great deal of technical information is included for those who have this interest.

And how refreshing to read a book that is truly well-written. This author knows language and how to use it effectively. I also enjoyed his use of pictures (reprints of photos) to enhance the text.

I'm now buying it as a gift for others. That's the highest rating I can give a book.

A great introduction to MLK Jr.

I had never read a biography of Rev. King, so I found this book incredibly enlightening. The author is very passionate about his subject, but what I enjoyed most about the book is that Burns provides a very comprehensive discussion of not only King's nonviolent Civil Rights movement, but also Black Nationalism, the rise of Hippies, the Peace Movement, and other groups vying to spark change. The other element I found incredibly interesting was Burns' thorough depictions of King's religious views and how his beliefs fed and sustained him. As a non-Christian, I never really understood how pervasive Christian theology was in the formation and makeup of the Civil Rights movement.

Overall--very well written. I greatly enjoyed reading this book.
