Every student contemplating attending Loyola Chicago should read this book. Whether you plan to commute or live on campus, there is valuable info on safety and recreation and campus life. The school itself is sometimes reluctant to share this info, as not all of it fits in with its self-image.

A quick read, this book provides information that you won't find in Loyola's recruitment pamphlets. It gives prospective students a detailed look not only at Loyola, but also Chicago and all it has to offer. Information is accurate and up to date with student opinions interwoven throughout. Prospective students are finally able to get a 'real' look at Loyola before deciding their college destination.

Yes, you really can make a quilt in a day! Her instructions are beautifully organized, supremely clear and easy to follow. Variations on the Log Cabin pattern include Barn Raising, Fields & Furrows, Light & Dark, Zig Zag, and Arrow. Projects include not only full-size quilts, but also baby quilts, pillow shams and tote bags. Super book!

Essential reading if you admire Bulgakov's work

Since I can't read Russian, I have to read Bulgakov's marvelous plays and novels ("Heart of a Dog", "The Master and Margarita", "Bliss") in translation. Nor did I experience, first-hand, the horrors of the Stalin purges.

I love the work of Bulgakov--he's a master of satire and imagination. This biography in letters and notes is really essential for the non-Russian reader to get a sense of his history, life and work in a way that can't be conveyed in translation. It put all that I had read by Bulgakov into a far more comprehensible light.

As a reading specialist, I'm always looking for ways to integrate quality children's literature into my content area lessons. When I read this book, I could not put it down! It is full of easy, practical lessons. These lessons encourage children to think, develop their own math strategies, and use writing or drawings to show how they solved mathematical problems. I liked this book so much, that I wrote a grant to purchase this book and the 21 trade books used for the lessons. I highly recommend this!

This book is compassionately and sensitively written. It is clear and concise, especially for a woman who is grieving the loss of a baby through miscarriage. It has been an instrument of healing for hundreds of women I have cared for and counseled. It also is a wonderful information guide for those who desire to know about miscarriage.

I feel puzzled nobody so far has reviewd this excellent text by Novikov (and Fomenko). The view-point is somewhat different from Bredon or May or Spanier, but together with Part 2, they form a good introduction to "geometric" topology.

One of the best treatises on geometry/topology available these days!

Review Date: 2005-10-10
I first got acquainted with Dubrovin/Novikov/Fomenko collection when I was still a second year (sophomore in the US system) student in Math-Phys
trying to learn the basics on plane/space differential curves as a
complement for my Calculus courses. And since then I've made countless references to this book and its siblings.

The pace is fast compared to
other well known introductions on differential geometry/topology
but the text has many insightful and non-trivial examples
examples. Challenging problems are present everywhere in the text!
Though there are a few problems per chapter, the problems sometimes really
require some mastery of the material being far from immediate
applications of the theory developed(for the joy or despair of the
reader). Intentionally the authors try, whenever possible, to replace calculations and
difficult deductions with conceptual proofs. Frequent links with
physical theories (e.g. mechanics, electromagnetism, general
relativity, field theory etc.) compound a good deal of the text
which makes its reading still more delightful. As a con, I would
say the text is quite hard for a beginner but stubborness pays-off in this case.
The second volume of this series covers differential topology w/ emphasis on many aspects of modern physics, like GR, solitons and Yang-Mills theory. There's also a nice account on complex manifolds, mainly Riemman surfaces and it's relation to Abel's thm. Among other topics: classification of compact surfaces , hyperbolic geometry etc.
The third volume covers Homology theory and included a readable account of Spectral sequences for those who may need to learn the machinery for qualifications exams and or applications of complex geometry to contemporary physics (e.g. twistor theory). Viktor Prasolov has recently published a treatise on Homology with more problems and more rigorous proofs. A nice complement to Novikov's exposition.
Eclectic, but at the same time superb.

Preschooler Loves Jake!

Gave the book to a dear friend, and her comments were: Read "Jakes Adventures" to my preschool great-granddaughter. She was very attentive and asked questions. She was most interested in the page that has Jake's visit to Sesame Place. She had me read it to her a second time the same night. Jake got preference over Cinderella! About two weeks later she asked for it again, so she has become an avid fan.

"My Chapter Book - Jake's Adventures" begins a series of books to introduce children to the many experiences the world has to offer. Oftentimes, children may hesitate or fear trying something new. This series is designed to help relieve that hesitation by showing what "Jake has done" - like swimming, amusement rides, or traveling away from home on a plane or ship. (For children birth through seven.) I hope you enjoy the book ~

The second edition has been produced and printed. It used the advancements in the printing process to provide the reader with better reproductions of orignal photographs of these truly classic cars.

Revisions were made to the text too, which makes this book even more valuable to both classic car lovers and to those who are restoring these beautiful cars.

Thought you should know that a Second Edition of this book has just been published and is available. The new edition has some 60 new photos and all photos have been rescanned and many reformatted. A color section has been added, there is a new foreword, and the author has written a new introduction to the second edition. The book remains the definitive work on the great American luxury cars of the Twenties and Thirties. Byron D. Olsen, editor 2nd.Edition

Great for all levels of cooking
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-28
I got this six years ago as a bachelor who had barely touched a stove. One of my first cookbooks, the "One Dish" cooking is what was appealed to me. The instructions are easy to follow and the dishes range from very basic to expert. This does have a lot of casserole and stew variations. However, I found quite a few surprises one would not normally think of and it does not stick to Americana cuisine. There is Latin, Asian, European and Middle eastern as well. Chapters are broken down by meat, and course and includes a great one for desserts. Basic cook and bakewear required and a few spices outside the norm is all you need to get the full enjoyment out of this book. Still one of my favorite cookbooks.

Simple, easy, healthy, pretty, can't-miss meals!!!

One-Dish Meals provides succulent recipes, no-kidding easy, with beautiful graphics and can't miss directions. For the novice or busy cook, the meals are timed so you know how long each recipe takes to make. Because the meals are one-dish simple, clean up is snappy. Want pretty meals? This is the book for you. Fish, veggies, desserts, soups, it's all in there. This writer is an average cook, but this cookbook makes me look great!
