Fun, unusual, sometimes scary storyReview Date: 1997-09-30
As deadly vampires enter this polyglot picture, specifically by preying upon Jewish youths on the eve of their Bar Mitzvahs, Wartell personalizes the story with a handful of well-drawn characters.
Conversations and interaction between these characters provide fascinating discourses on politics, religion, philosophy and spirituality. But when two of them -- a Polish rabbi and Catholic nobleman -- find themselves in a tomb populated by a small host of newly-made and ravenous vampires, their talk abruptly ceases. The ensuing scene is bloody eno

Bounded Allegiance Review by DesmondReview Date: 2007-06-13
The end of the book has a single unanswered question that left me wanting more, but even this is not a complete downside, because it could be turned into a compelling sequel.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read the science fiction genre.

A wonderful tale of christmas!Review Date: 2003-10-07
Brenda lives with her grandmother, because "there was nobody else to take care of her". Although Brenda's granmother was poor, she took care of the child, who becomes her pride and joy. She calls her her brave Brenda, because Breda has the bravest blue eyes.
It was almost christmas when grandmother hurt her leg. Now what about christmas? Who is going to make all the christmas food, the decorating of the house, the presents and who is going to sell christmas candy they'd made at the market? Grandmother wants to send Brenda to aunt Larsson for a proper christmas, but Brave Brenda decides she'll do it all herself.
This book inspired me as a child to do more than i thought i could, and the wonderful describtion of what ín the end happend at christmas still brings tears to my eyes.
Perfect to read to your children at christmas!

Wide ranging contributions containing some thought provoking material and action pointsReview Date: 2008-01-25
* The first chapter on Building more effective organisations brings together what is known about achieving high levels of organisation performance. This is done very well in a concise format and the book is worth buying for this alone.
* The material in chapter 6 on leadership development is excellent and covers current thinking and best practice in how to connect your leadership strategy to Business strategy.
In terms of weaknesses:
* The coverage of how to build more effective teams in chapter 7 left me with a sense of what value does does this section of the book add to the readers knowledge/understanding? My conclusion is very little it is hard going and you feel that you have entered a world that is far removed from the practioner on the ground. You wonder why this was included, have the editors really thought through the reasons for including this contribution.
* The lack of coverage of how to design an effective organisation design eg structures/processes etc that enhances organisation performance was disappointing. For example the work of Jay Galbraith and others in this field was not given attention. If you produce a book on building more effective organisations this is a major omission.
* The coverage of health and well-being is overdone, in many areas it feels more like a text on counselling/occupational psychology, the balance is not entirely right.Did anyone actually test the range of topics on potential readers?
In summary the HR practioner will find this useful. Would I reccomend it to a manager looking to improve organisation effectiveness,I am less sure about this.
