Informative popular academic exploration of race and health

This book confirmed a lot of my impressions, but was reinforced by hard facts and research from a very very wide range of sources.

The multi-faceted disadvantages which can jeorpardise people's mental health bear disproportionately heavily on our Black community. Also, mental health services are racially prejudiced in their diagnosis and treatment.

What I found most interesting however, a dialogue which you can glimpse at many intervals thoughout the book, is the author's discussion of the historical and long term effects of the experiences of slavery and forced dislocation: lack of condfidence, lack of experience of learning and teaching/passing on authority.

Depressing reading, but necessary for anyone who claims they have a political soul.

Do you know where you state stands on abortion, bioethics, and end of life? "Defending Life 2007" is an invaluable guide. This book is divided into sections:

"In-depth discussions of key legislative and policy issues related to abortion, protection of the unborn, bioethics assisted reproductive technologies, the end of life, and healthcare rights."

"Reviews of the 2006 state legislative sessions, overviews of the important gains and key defeats in the ongoing fight to preserve and defend the sanctity of all human life, and strategic recommendations for the upcoming 2007 state legislative sessions."

"Model legislation (developed by AUL experts) to assist state legislators in drafting, debating, and passing life-affirming legislation."

"Specific information on each of the 50 states, including an overall ranking of the states and careful analysis of each state's successes and opportunities for improvement."

At the end of each chapter there is a subheading, "What to Do in 2007." There are suggestions on where our focus needs to be.

First let me state that I am opposed to abortion and assisted suicide. While I think it's very sad that we need a book like this, I'm glad we have it. I'm from Kentucky and found of particular interest the information on where each state stood on the issues, and state funding limitations. I also found the section on "End-of-Life Issues" very enlightening. Regardless of where you stand on these important issues, this book offers information that you will find helpful. It discusses legislations and biotechnology. I must admit that I found myself extremely ignorant on the topic of Bioethics. "Defending Life 2007" is very well-organized and a very "user-friendly" manual. I highly recommend it to all adults.

Yielding to the Holy Spirit impacted my life. I really feel that it is so relevant to the time that we are in right now. This book addressed anxieties that I was able to put to rest after reading it. The book was made so simple and I so appreciate the work and passion that was in it. I believe we are in a time that we absolutely must hear the direction and leading of the Holy Spirit on a moment by moment basis. The wisdom and revelation was so evident in this book.

THE DEVIL WORE BLUE JEANS
The unexpected appearance of a man in her bedroom was shocking enough for shy Jessie Webster. Even more astonishing was being shanghaied by this sexy, green-eyed stranger who shore her life was at stake.

Though Jessie knew it was a case of mistaken identity, Ben Sutton refused to listen to reason. Despite her protests, he was determined to provide his personal brand of body guarding.

With the sweetest temptation of Ben's long, liquid kisses, the once-timid Jessie grew bolder. Then she realized she truly was in danger - of losing herself, body and soul, to her devilishly desirable protector.

THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC!!! IT WAS NON-STOP ACTION. THIS IS A MUST READ AND A KEEPER. I JUST FINISHED IT AND CAN'T WAIT TO READ IT AGAIN!!

Ms. Kaylor brings an honest and eloquent voice to the miracle of parenting a gifted child. Her courage and love shine through each page, and we share in the challenges and gifts that Christopher brings. This is a must read for parents, doctors, teachers and others who are involved with caring for children with special needs.

Essential research material for anyone with an interest in US Naval ships.

I was researching the heroic story of the loss of the USS Aaron Ward (sunk off the Solomon Islands towards the end of WW2) when I came across this item advertised on one of the Amazon websites. Unaware I was looking at an eight-volume set of books, I baulked at the price and decided to search on. Nevertheless, I kept coming back to this item and decided to take a closer look. I am so glad I did.

Set out in alphabetical order and written without fear or favour, the United States Department of Defence have provided one of the most important research tools of modern years and I congratulate them for an excellent job of work. The entry for each ship commences with a note about the origin of the name. For example, the USS Missouri is named after an American state - enough said. The Aaron Ward, however, was named after Admiral Aaron Ward and that particular section commences with a most reasonable biography of the man.

Each ship to bear a particular name is covered in varying degrees of detail - largely dependant on what historical information was available to the compilers. Famous ships and, naturally, more recent vessels, get excellent coverage although it must be said that if the information was available on those much older vessels, then their full story is told here.

Watch out for single volumes being sold separately - when you are either looking for a complete set or perhaps a different volume.

Altogether, one of the best additions to my library for a very long time.
