This is a very well researched and chronicled book. During the writing of Adventures in Hi-Fi, the authors found my black and white photographs of R.E.M. published on my website and contacted me about using them for the book. I no longer had the exact date of when the photos were shot, but they knew. It's awesome to see R.E.M.'s journey all laid out in this well organized book. A labor of care and love, great work by Rob Jovanovic and Tim Abbott!

My friends bought me this book for my 18th... I love them so much! This is an absolutely fantastic book!
It has detailed information of the bands history... from their early days of jamming together to what they are now. It also outlines the unfortunate circumstances under which Bill Berry, the band drummer, left the band.

It is well illustrated, with plenty of odds and ends to keep all R.E.M. fans satisfied. At the end, it even has a table showing how their singles and albums faired on the UK and US charts!

It's a long read, but it's a blast all the way through. If you call yourself a fan of the best band in the world, you need to get this book!

The following is an excerpt about Buck and his books, from my book, Book Marketing DeMystified: Enjoy Discovering the Optimal Way to Sell Your Self-Published Book, Practical advice from the inventor of print-on-demand (POD) publishing...

Paul "Buck" Kalinowski, Jr. from Wolcott, Connecticut, wrote two
children's books, called Cupid's Secret and The Adventures of Arrow, which he sells from his ranch,
through a website [...]
and also at horse shows. Buck is a singer who
often entertains at the shows, which draws
further attention to his award-winning horses
(Cupid and Arrow) and their namesake books.
Buck has assembled a product line of
porcelain models, plush toys and beanie horses fashioned in the horses' likeness, eBook versions, CDs and T-shirts
- so he can cross-market. He has hired scriptwriters to create a movie
proposal. His book sales are over 20,000 copies and steadily climbing.
Buck has figured out his public very well, and has nailed the best
places to sell his books as well - his ranch, website and horse events.

Of course, this marketing would only work if Buck created great stories, which he did!

Pearl Buck is my favorite author! Angry Wife was different from most of the others I have read by Buck, but, in its own way, it held my interest as do all of her books! Buck's writings are so well described, you feel like you are part of the story, and she has just enough romance to make it interesting.

This little known book from Pearl S Buck is a gem. I liked the book better than "Good Earth".When ever you read Pearl Buck you expect a grim picture but this book is of different style. With due respect to Late Mrs Buck her books in China and Korea are full with details but lack cultural integrity but this is world apart. She is in her home grounds and she knows the life style as the palm of her hand. It is very inspiring for people who want to follow their heart and not get bogged down by the pressures and biasness of the society. Its for people who do not get carried away by dot.com stocks and have no regrets for it. There is a fantastic description of life in Southern ranches - their prejudices, vanities. It also shows the supreme sacrifice of some people for their belief in equality of human life and love for knowledge.

Beyond Time is about time travel, fate, love, and faith. It takes the reader on a wild journey through South Carolina from the capital to the coast, weaving a complex plot full of action and suspense. My favorite thing about this book is that it brought back fond memories of gazing up at the stars as a child. Not only is Beyond Time an enjoyable read, it also conveys a powerful message. Highly recommended!

Beyond Time: A Scientists Journey into Faith

Sometimes true men are not forged until the fires of life burn hot with failed struggles and attempts at earthly atonement. This bears to witness that man is comprised of only shards of broken dreams and misplaced intentions without the searing power of God's forgiveness and unquestioning love. That is exactly the premise for Rob Buck's freshman novel, Beyond Time.

The story centers around Peter Anderson, a scientist feverishly absorbed in his work with little time for anything else. His arrogance causes him to ignore more important parts of his life, such as his friends and his family. His self-absorption comes to a head when his childhood friend commits suicide and his wife leaves him. It is here that he begins to appreciate all that he had, and mourn all that he has now lost.

Through the miracle of science, and the help of his friend Jimmy, he is seemingly given a second chance to correct what he sees to be God's own mistakes. From here, the novel delves into Peter's lack of faith, his questioning God's will, and his eventual journey back into the loving embrace of the Lord. Peter finds that God has his own plan, and that in following that plan, the suffering he causes in his personal life (and Time itself) melts away in the advent of God's love.

This personal journey takes place in the middle of an exciting plot that threatens to bring the American government to heel under foreign control. Terrorist factions, using Peter's scientific miracle, vie for temporal and economic dominance in an ever escalating endeavor to serve their own evil ends. If not for the vigilance of Peter and his friends to make right the wrongs of their own individual misdeeds, the terrorist plot would surely succeed.

This is a truly uplifting tale of loss, love, and faith. It has excitement, action, and a genuine message of the infinite forgiveness of God's wisdom. This book has something all people can enjoy, religious and nonreligious alike. Rob Buck has achieved a good work of fiction in this book, and a great start to his writing career.

I wish him luck in all of his future books!!

The behavioral techniques taught in this book enabled me to set up a token economy in my initially rowdy classroom. After implementing this program my class became known for its good behavior and manners. My class was complimented by the superintendent at their DARE graduation for good behavior. The system requires some effort to set up and much discipline to maintain. However, the rewards of a compliant class ready to learn is worth the work.

A Great Management System! I couldn't teach without it!

Big Bucks: A Creative Discipline System is simple to use, effective, and the students love it! There is no out of pocket expense! This book will teach you how to set up your classroom, enforce your classroom rules, and provide activities for your students. I use this system with my sixth graders, and I think it could work in grades 1-8. The book is well-written and easy to understand.

Welcome to Millionaire, Montana, where twelve lucky souls have won a multimillion dollar jackpot. ** Well, doggone it, if millionaire animal doc Jack Hartman didn't go disappointing the disproportionately high female pet-owning population by popping the question to his plain-Jane partner, Melinda Woods. Why, the odds on the romance-resistant widower remarrying were longer than The Main Street Millionaires winning the lottery! Unless, of course, the venerable veterinarians are trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes by pretending to be betrothed. But sources say the slow dances and even slower kisses shared between the cozy colleagues simply cannot be contrived. Then again, the incriminating blush on bashful Melinda's cheeks does confirm rumors of a secret crush. Still, skeptical minds want to know: when is the wedding?

In economically depressed Jester, Montana, twelve of the local merchants each chip in a dollar every week for the Big Bucks Multi State Lottery. When one of their numbers hit, they win over $1 million each after taxes.
In this second installment in the Millionaire, Montana series, local veterinarian Jack Hartman is laying the ground work to leave Jester. Five years ago, his wife was died and there are to many painful memories for him in Jester. When Jack becomes one of the lottery winners, he finally has the money to leave town, now he just has to get the local ranchers to see his partner, Melinda Woods, as the competent vet she is and not judge her just because she's a woman. To complicate his life even further, the local single women figure it's time for Jack to come out of mourning for his wife now that he's worth $1 million. When one lady corners Jack in the clinic's exam room, the only way Jack can think of to dissuade her is to tell her he's seeing Melinda. That evening, as Melinda is watching the local news, she learns of her "engagement" to Jack. Since Melinda has had a crush on Jack since she first met him, she agrees to go along with the pretend engagement so the local women will leave him alone. Jack soon finds his feelings for Melinda growing. Melinda is a truly beautiful person who fights hard to win the respect of the local ranchers. Her assortment of quirky pets is delightful.

Mr. Lepp can tell a tall tale like no other person. The stories are detailed making all of them nearly truthful. His incorporation of local West "by God" Virginia landmarks and history add to the stories. A must have for anyone who loves tall tales or is from southern West Virginia.

Overlooked Gem

This game is often overlooked- or outright dismissed- by the gaming community. However, it may be my favorite game setting of all time. The mechanic used to judge action is a streamlined AD&D 2nd edition model and is heavily skill-based; level-based emphasis on classes (called careers in this game) is less than in standard AD&D.

The setting is amazing and very interesting. The designers of this game emphasized that they wanted a "plausible" future for the setting and that is done very well within the confines of making a playable and fun RPG! The XXVc (25th Century) setting is confined to our solar system (assuming as you read this you are orbiting Sol like I) and the "aliens" and "monsters" are genetic variations of humans or other animals- custom-tailored to exploit different environments within the solar system..or for other, more nefarious means.

The extra sourcebooks and adventure modules also serve to bring the setting alive, but I strongly recommend getting the 10 "comic modules" published by TSR and set in the XXVc setting. These comic modules bring to life the atmosphere of the XXVc in full color glory- gritty and hard as it might be (that's right- this isn't the campy Buck Rogers from the early 80s...this is a totally different animal in more ways than one). These comic modules (so-called because each comic included a complete board or card game within its pages) coupled with the boxed set will keep a gaming group (or a fan of good sci-fi) entertained for hours!

I can't recommend the RPG, the novels or the comics enough! I've scoured the internet for information on this game and I've come across several threads at RPG forums which mention how this game was a good one, overlooked- a real gem. Do yourself a favor and delve into the XXVc!!

A TSR attempt at a sci-fi role playing game

TSR was the grand-daddy of Role Playing Game companies. Best known for "Dungeons & Dragons," TSR actually developed many other games (some fine, others less than great), but none ever approached the popularity of D&D. Interestingly, TSR had much trouble coming up with a science fiction RPG, and wanted badly to emulate the success of the "Traveller" RPG at rival company GDW.

In 1990, they secured the license to the "Buck Rogers" franchise, and developed a game around it. The game never received a huge audience, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. In addition to game supplements, they published Buck Rogers novels, comics, and even a board game. (See my "Amazon List" of products) It's more Science Fantasy (like Star Wars) than Sci-Fi to my taste, but I sure admire the love and effort put into the game system.

The basic set as listed here should include the following books and accessories: "Characters & Combat," "The World Book," "The Technology Book," 4 maps, measuring device, 24 large cards, die-cut counters, and a ref's screen.
