This is not a good reference book on Fly Fishing in NC

This is not a book that someone should read if they want an in depth review of fly fishing opportunities in North Carolina. Nice folksy stories about fishing experiences but that's it. Go to a local fly shop in North Carolina and learn more in one afternoon.

i couldn't believe folks rated it so low

If you are looking for an intruction book, this is not it, but if you want to read an honest refreshing book about someone's experience and joy of fishing in this beautiful state of ours, it is a good read. And it does have helpful advice within the stories. I got it from the library, and after reading it Im getting one to keep in the home library.

For any equine lover. This book really is Gigantic and filled with quips and quotes about Horses that inspire and amuse anybody who has ever encountered one of nature's finest creatures.

A Gigantic Disappointment

I don't want to unfairly criticize this book because I'm sure someone might enjoy it. However, I've read about as much 'wisdom' on the tshirts in all the equine catalogs I get in the mail. I was hugely disappointed by this book. If you are looking for a book with actual 'wisdom' in it, something practical, forget this book. I'd like to say that if you're looking for a cute coffee table or bathroom book, this is it, but I don't think it even rates that. I poured through this book hoping to squeeze just a few of my pennys' worth out of it, but what I found was
1. the same quotes repeated over again from one 'chapter' to the next. I guess they figured no one would pay attention
2. quotes that didn't really pertain to horses. e.g. 'put the cart before the horse'? Isn't the saying "DON'T put the cart before the horse?" which is a proverb, not 'horse wisdom'
3. and even the introductions to the chapters could have been sweet, meaningful, personal little stories from the author, but instead ? I don't know what the points were.
I really feel cheated by this book. That was a lot of money wasted.

Accomplished aviation pioneer ill-served by this book
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-22
A very poor presentation of a very interesting subject and an accomplished aviation pioneer. The author is an uncritical
advocate of Pitcairn and ascribes to him developments and insights that he did not make which detracts from the latter's very real accomplishments.

I think that this book was written at the behest of Steve Pitcairn, son of Harold Pitcairn - though I could be mistaken.

The book is somewhat useful for its technical information; look at everything else through a sieve of common sense and objectivity.

The Pioneering, the Vision, the Agony of a 26 Year Lawsuit

I have reread this book 20 years later. I have become more amazed and appreciative of (great uncle) Harold's contributions to the field of aviation, and more understanding of the challenges he faced in trying to secure justice for use of his patents during World War II---the benefits of which were not recognized until after 26 years of litigation.

Even if I weren't related, this is great stuff for anyone to read about the pioneering days of American aviation, from the early mail service (later becoming Eastern Airlines) to the co-development work on the autogiro---the precursor of the helicoptor.

Go for it!

Really bad teaching aid
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-11
This book is terrible.

It does not explain concepts very well as well as being very poorly edited. The examples it gives are worthless in aiding understanding of the material and much of the source code that comes with it is incorrect and/or full of errors.

It teaches RPGLE coding almost exclusively in Free-Format despite 99% of RPG code in the "real world" being fixed format. Plus it has no use in my work place as it is a poor reference manual.

Book is so bad that my professor stop using it half way through the 1st term of a 4 term RPG Programming series.

Teaching the real power of RPG

Review Date: 2008-05-10
I have been in the IT industry about 10 years working with RPG and have lost touch with what it is like to learn RPG from the ground up. I had a business need to get three individuals up to speed fast with RPG and one of my main concerns is that they learn the latest techniques vs. old coding styles. This book was exactly what I was looking for because in the 4th edition it was gone through from start to finish and implemented things like free format, the newest BIFs/OPCodes, and even introduced WDSC!

Another scenario I think this book would be great for is teaching programmers of other languages about RPG. It is nothing new to anybody that RPG programmers are getting hard to find, so an approach that can save your investment in you iSeries is train individuals who already know other languages to learn to use RPG - this book would be a perfect fit for that.

I would definitely recommend this book be used for the purposes I described above!

The CPT book is standard across america so it is ok. But buck has written her own ICD-9-CM and HCPCS. She cut corners and left stuff out. Don't waste your money if you are truely interested in coding. Buy the books published by the coding professionals. I have wasted 200 bucks buying her books only to now have to purchase the others! Her books are geared towards her curriculum not the national exam. Don't waste your money!!!!

This was a great package. It's the first time that we have used the Saunder's products but it won't be the last! The price was good and we like the layout of the books. The ICD-9 book has illustrations and pictures that help even a beginner coder understand what they are reading.

The needs of democracy itself within an Islamic context
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2003-10-13
Thoughtfully and insightfully written by Susan Buck-Morss (Professor of Political Philosophy and Social Theory, Cornell University), Thinking Past Terror: Islamism And Critical Theory On The Left surveys the contemporary literature on the relationship of Islam to modernity, and exhorts the importance of thinking beyond the impacts of terrorism and counter-terrorism to better understand the needs of democracy itself within an Islamic context as well as a multiethnic, multi-religious, global environment. Stressing that domination and consensus are most strongly maintained by the disorganization of dissent, Thinking Past Terror looks forward to the goal of a cosmopolitan Left that can find unity and strength to remain viable in ever-changing times. Thinking Past Terror is an especially timely and recommended addition to Islamic Studies reference collections and reading lists.

This book is got a few gems on saving money that I haven't heard like The Family Energy Plan, and some good ideas to have everyone in the house work at saving money. Most is however basic and a good place to start on the furgal lifestyle but not to continue on that path since you probably were doing most of these if not all already. Very good and easy to understand for the beginner.
