I bought this figuring it was just something to fill the time, and because although it is fashionable to 'diss' Boomer, I think he's a bright and straigtforward guy.

The book is lots better than most people would expect: I think most of us think football players are kind of dumb bozos. Some of the characters in this novel are not all that bright, but the characters ARE characters, and the plot grabs you from about page 15 and keeps you hooked for another 300 pages. The protagonist, Brody, is a likeable yet imperfect guy. And the book is smart, not dumb or even formulaic. There's a lot about football here -- and much of it not what you get in the sanitized version every Monday night on ABC. If you like football, or like crime novels, you'll like this book.

Writing was not meant for football players

This book was a disgrace to the literature culture, Esiason's book was so terrible and a waste of my time, I got absolutely nothing out of his book. The language and word choice was that of a junior high student. Sorry Esiason, you may be a great football legend but you can't write!

Can you say outstanding?

Toss is a fascinating read from beginning to end. The twists and turns in the story will keep you gasping for breath with every page. This is not just a book for football fans, it's a book for readers who love a good crime story and a good writer(s) to tell it. Though the dirty secrets of the NFL are a big part of the book, it is the fascinating main character of quarterback Derek Brody that keeps the pages turning. You can't help but wonder just how much of Boomer Esiason is in Derek Brody, which makes it all the better of a read. Esiason (and Cauffiel) has definitely thrown for a touchdown on his first play from scrimmage.

A very good read, even if you could care less about football

Toss is a very satisfying read, one that is hard to put down. The research was excellent and the story unfolds quickly, without a lot of boring - and unnecessary - football details. Don't get the wrong idea - there is lots of football 'stuff' in this book and the facts ring curiously true. Most of the events probably really occured, names changed to protect the guilty. Yes, I read North Dallas Fourty. This book is nothing like that. It is told from the rookie point of view, by someone still in love with the game. The characters are vivid with gratuitous sex kept to a minimum. This book will be enjoyed by both men and women.

This book is the literary equivalent of an interception run back for a touchdown by the other team. Mr. Esiason is well on his way to winning as many literary awards as he did Super Bowl titles.

Like most of Trudeau's Doonesbury books, this one is well worth the money that you pay for it. Lots of strips, and all the Sunday strips are in their original colors. My only quibble is that the book does not pick up where PLANET DOONESBURY left off; that is, a huge chunk of the strips seem to be missing. As I understand it, the only place to get these strips is in THE BUNDLED DOONESBURY, and they constitute only 1/4 of the contents (the rest of the compilation is strips from VIRTUAL DOONESBURY and PLANET DOONESBURY). While this is a clever marketing scheme to sell to people who are compleatists, I find it reprehensible that Trudeau would gouge his fans like this. Therefore, I can't say that BUCK WILD DOONESBURY totally met my expectations.

I may be in the minority, but I truly dislike "Doonesbury"

I don't like Doonesbury. I admit that. I find I can't abide that fresh mouthed Alex with all of her get rich quick schemes. The way she talks to adults makes one want to backhand her! I also dislike the smarmy balding bulldozer and his equally offensive look alike son. That creepy Alex and that bratty boy are birds of a feather! I also dislike Kim, the sneaky stereotypical Generation X female with the fresh mouth. I'm also no fan of good old Doonesbury himself. I am a Democrat who doesn't like Doonesbury, which is often hailed as the Sacred Cow of Comic Strips.

There was a time when I thought a big drawback to being famous was being lampooned in Doonesbury. I felt sorry for Trudeau's roommate, the Pillsbury heir who inspired this strip. I hate the way this strip puts people down and has an array of unappealing characters, like that talking cigarette, Mr. Butts. Stubb out Mr. Butts!

Boo, hiss, Doonesbury!

Wasn't the best but was still pretty good

I think this had many good strips but was missing to much. It didn't seem like it came after planet doonesbury. I really like the character zipper and if you do i suggest you read this book definetly. I think alex mikes daughter was also very funny as she sets up alex cam. I dont think this is even close to trudeau s other doonesbury books but if you reallly like doonesbury I suggest you get it.

good, but considering Doonesbury's rep for excellence...

Buck Wild Doonesbury has some excellent strips in it but the book as a whole is lacking. WAY to much time is spent on Zonker's nephew Zipper. Zipper would be funny in short bursts but a huge amount is dedicated to him. Mike's internet company is losing millions and positions itself to go public...but...you'll just have to wait untill next fall to read about them doing so. At least Duke is in good shape through this book, trying to sell his house (still an orphanage) to a John Denver fan for millions and later becoming appointees for Jesse Ventura. Of course, Duke is always funny. It's also nice to see Roland Hedley make some hilarious appearances but overall this collection does not live up to the extreme standards GTB has set for himself and just makes me more eager for next fall's collection.

Too much goes on in this book. It would have been better at 200 pages sticking to the mystery of who killed the actress. Instead there's a lot of kind of sick and not believable stuff about Dutch (why is this her nickname?) and her boyfriend Michael. Meanwhile, she's flirting with Buddy. And then there's her mom. Too much. This book is unfocused and the main character's quirks are too weird. Skip it.

Funny & entertaining with a spunky heroine to root for

This was a fast & fun read with highly entertaining characters. Dutch wasn't a know-it-all P.I. but one whose flaws made her endearing. This "not so tough cookie" treasures her independence, but also seeks to make connections with loved ones. Don't expect the "murder mystery" to be complex -- the zany characters are what make this mystery fun. In fact, the most important mystery Dutch is trying to solve seems to be the lifelong mystery of herself, as she finally finds some concrete clues to her father's identity. Minor characters also change and grow by the end of novel. Don't expect deep social commentary or heart-wrenching drama -- but if you're looking for a light mystery where you can care about the characters, this is one!

A faced paced novel with a strong, humorous leading woman.

I especially enjoyed this book because the main character was so human, her strengths and weaknesses are a real part of the book. The book itself is funny, a great set of characters - including her mother the shrink. The ending made sense, without reaching at all. All in all I highly recommend this book, and eagerly look foward to her next one.

This review has a timed 5 hour exam in the book you do before you start the review. This is very important since that is the major complaint of test takers, they run out of time! It also lets you know where your weaknesses are so you don't waste time studying areas in which you are already proficient, you can concentrate on the others.

The book has review questions and outlines to help you get up to speed in these areas but it is not a study guide. The book is meant to be a review so if your knowledge is severely lacking in several areas use other means to study then use this book to test your knowledge.

When you feel you're ready, take the exam review on the CD. It is similar to the actual test and is also good for practicing pacing yourself. You will also see how much you've improved in your weak subjects.

The actual exam is now 5.5 hours instead of 5 hours and it is a difficult exam. Don't assume you are knowledgeable in all areas and will have no trouble passing the exam. Do yourself a favor and prepare by using a good review guide. Don't, and you may find yourself taking the test again.

Wait until you see what the test is REALLY like!!!

I just took the CPC test a few days ago. I did my course work. They did not really go over past tests but I had secured a simulation of one. I purchased this book because I felt sample tests were something I needed to practice. All the anatomy, etc., in this book is too in depth for what is on the test and overdone...look at how the test is setup. The book should be more based on CPT, ICD, HCPCS, real life examples of coding, etc., that you need for the test. I took the tests in the book and scored well on them.... Then comes the REAL test. OH MY GOSH. I found it to be much more difficult than the sample tests in the book or more difficult than any sample questions I had seen anywhere. And don't think that topics will be evenly covered - mine had 5 cath's on it and no spine, for example. The book didn't hurt, but you need to do much more work than just this book if you want to pass the test.

The cover of my 1960's era paperback of Death in the Castle. described the novel as "chilling and thrilling". It isn't.

Sir Richard and Lady Mary need to sell the thousand year old castle which has been in the family for hundreds of years. Sir Richard has no heir to pass the castle on to, and if he doesn't sell the English government will turn it into a prison or a powerplant. John Blayne, an American, wishes to buy the castle, but he wants to take the castle apart piece by piece and bring it to America and make it into a museum. Sir Richard does not know this and this becomes a source of conflict.

The maid, Kate, is more than she seems to be and while the reader is given enough clues as to her identity, most of the other characters have no idea.

There is supposedly some sort of a mystery here regarding the sale and the mysterious "they" who also inhabit the castle, but to be perfectly honest the story is not very interesting, there is no mystery, there is nothing thrilling or chilling and the novel is little more than the barest thread of a story about a couple not really willing to sell and a buyer who wants to be honest and respectful.

This isn't very critical, but the whole book and uneventful storyline just bored me. It's a short novel, but there is no substance.

I recently bought this book at a "library sell out" were it just caught my eye. This is a rather unusual tale. Sir Richard and Lady Mary are out of money and need to sell their castle, with great regret. The castle is about 1,000 years old and had many royal people live in it or visit it. The State has offered to turn it into a prison. John Blayne, a wealthy American comes, wishing to buy, and them move the castle to Connecticut. There is a maid that Blayne it sure is not only a maid and an old man who claims to be her granddad. However, is he? This is a very nice book and fun to read.

I could not believe the same author who wrote The Good Earth had penned this book. It concerns an ancient English castle with two elderly inhabitants, Lord Richard and his frail little wife, whose name i have already forgotten. Enter a dashing American Millionare who wants to take the castle apart, brick by brick, and take it back to America to house the wonderful art works his Mother purchased over the years. Of Course, Sir Richard is incensed and things go from bad to worse with murder being done toward the end. Who is the maid, Kate? Only the reader knows for sure. I hope somebody will read this and let me know how Pearl Buck could have penned this and TGE.

I was also disappointed for similar reasons to the other reviews already made. The hikes are (intentionally?) downgraded in rating so as to make it almost appear that all hikes in Utah are equally rewarding. While most hiking in Utah is in fact amazing, it is still normal to have our favorites, isn't it?

The book also does NOT even list Angel's Landing in Zion National Park. That's quite an ommission if you ask me.

However, the book is an excellent intro to the areas of hiking in the state. There are many "off the beaten path" wonders in the book. I'd also pick up M. Kelsey's Hiking Guide to the Colorado Plateau and any of Falcon's Utah Hiking guides to complement this.

Dissapointed

I have a couple Foghorn books and really like their accuracy and insight. I especially like that they rate the hikes beased on beauty and other factors. Reading about a hike that is rated a 10/10 is much more appealing and inspiring than a 6/10 hike. But this is where The Foghorn Utah Hiking falls short. Since every hike is rated either a 7 or an 8 (i'm not kidding, check it out!), the rating system is basically meaningless. Not one hike is a 10? How could this be in a state with so much to offer. How do I distinguish between the hikes Buck? I also agree that there are too many overnight backpacking hikes. This is fine but in pretty much every case, you can turn these overnight hikes into a day hike. Just give us the info!

I am giving it 2.5 stars because it still provides good info and is a comprehensive Utah hiking guide. I like the maps and the layout.

A book for the too-young-to-hunt kid who can hardly wait to join Dad as he heads out to the deer woods. It's a story about archery hunting, sportsmanship and the camaraderie of five friends that will cultivate kids' interest in hunting.

By creating this book for children, the author has done hunting a valuable service. it helps present hunting in a positive light for children, depicts what hunting is like, and teaches some of the skills hunters use. Unlike most books for children, The Legend of Johnny Big Buck is not a cartoon book, and the deer isn't given a human personality, but it's very tastefully done.

This is the book for the kid who's chomping at the bit to go hunting, but he's too young, and the right book for a kid who needs a positive view of hunting.

Sets A Very bad Example

I purchased this book to read to my my grandsons. I must truly say it is one of the worst childrens books I have ever read. The author should be ashamed of himself. It does nothing to teach the children about the real pleasure of hunting, such as learning about the habits of the deer, how they live and survive in the outdoors etc. It teaches nothing about the enjoyment of WALKING out in the forest, the enjoyment of being outdoors, and the thrill of scouting and stalking the animal. To ride around in a pickup truck with a spotlight is not hunting. If I could rate this book less than one star I would. Please take this book of your shelves.

Some Poor Hunting Tactics

Review Date: 2007-04-10
I enjoyed the book and like the idea of getting youngsters involved in hunting. However, there were some tactics they used in the book that may be illegal or just poor practices. First they are out spot lighting the night befor the season. That is illegal in my state and if it wasn't I still wouldn't look at it as an ethical hunting tactic. Secondly they jump Johnny Big Buck and two guys shoot at him on the run with a bow. That is a very unethical hunting practice. Very few archers are good enough to pull off a shot like that and the ones that are good enough probably wouldn't take the shot knowing it is a poor shot and they wouldn't want to wound the animal. Archers are very ethical and strive to make a clean shot and a humane kill. That is what I teach my children. A running shot on a deer is not a clean shot. The book is intended for children and including poor hunting practices in the book isn't the right thing to teach them. I bought the book for my son and when I gave it to him I told him it had some questionable tactics inside and asked if he could pick them out. Tried to use it as a "what not to do" teaching tool. Don't know if I will buy the rest of the series.

I am a RN, Nurse Practitioner with a Master's Degree, and as such have taken many a certification exam (RN board certification, NP board certification, GRE, to name a few). I am currently preparing for the CCS exam. I've been working in the medical reimbursement industry for several years now, and consider myself to be knowledgeable and skilled. This is the single worst test prep resource I've ever come across. Perhaps it's intended as a text for a course, in which case it may have some value--but for someone preparing for this exam on their own, it's virtually useless. There is no "text", per se, but the chapters are in outline format that may make some sense to the author, but not to me. The CD is the worst part of the package. After you take the practice test, you get a grade, but no feedback on questions you answered correctly or incorrectly, and it's not possible to go back and see the correct answers. I believe your money's better spent elsewhere. I wish I could get my money back.

I've been in the medical claim industry for about 25 years, but had never needed a certification until now. I bought this book to prepare myself for the test. It is very well laid out, has answers to all of the quizes (execpt the final exam prep tests, as far as I've seen so far), and will teach even a veteran like me a LOT. It has sections on everything you'll need to know to pass the test. If you have a background in claims, I think this is an excellent prep book for the test. If I was brand new in the field, I think the information would be overwhelming, and would suggest taking actual classes to learn the information, but that's just my opinion.
