Only problem is that Ghost was described as "gray-white.' Light colored horses are just called gray. As Lisa learned in book three of the series, "it's a sign of a real beginner when they call a horse white."

On the court with Kobe Bryant by: Matt Christopher. Its s a young star named Kobe Bryant, that lived in Los Angeles CA. He lived with is father Joe (Jellybean) Bryant. They both loved basketball, Joe played in the NBA and played for the Knicks. Joe taught Kobe a lot of it. When Kobe went to High School, he played basketball too. He went to Lower Marion High. He had good grades all year round, that's why he got drafted out of high school for the NBA. Kobe was drafted in 1997 to the Phoenix Suns and the LA. Lakers traded a 1-2 draft picks for him. In 1997 he won rookie of the year award in 1999 he won the slam dunk contest. 2000-2003 they won the finals in a row. They have the most finals won in the entire NBA.

Because of how it's written, it's a pretty quick read, but it's most def. worth it. It's a really cute story with elements not atypical to a preteen/teenage novel, but (refreshingly) not filled with too many cliches or drama.

I did not enjoy this bookReview Date: 2007-12-27
However, my favorite inspirational lesson came in chapter 9 when Mr. Miller claims that he drove to Morehouse college, told the secretary to the Dean of Admissions that he would not take no for an answer, only to be welcomed to an unscheduled meeting with the Dean. During this interview, Mr. Miller claims that he told the Dean that Morehouse college would be funding his tuition in its entirety simply because he didn't want to stress about it anymore. Here's the excerpt...
He said, "Okay. Well, how do you plan on paying a hundred thousand dollars to go to Morehouse College, Mr. Miller?"
I said, "Now, that's a good question! Well, I guess Moorehouse is going to pay for it. I know this college doesn't offer transfer scholarships, but I'd love to have my matriculation funded by a scholarship from Morehouse College. I can't go back to Baltimore to finish my last semester and worry about paying for Morehouse College. Now, I think you think I'm crazy. That's because I am. Now, what's it going to be?"
He Said, "Okay, I'll tell you what; give me some time next week and we'll see."
I said, "Ah, ah, no no. I need to know this right now. I've been stressed out over this for too long, and I don't want to be just another phone call. Can we make this happen? Do we have a deal?"
After which of course the dean tells him he likes his style and gives him a full ride.
I don't know what world he is living in, but I work with at-risk children, and this is not what I would recommend for them to try in order to work towards their dreams. If this did happen, which I question, it does not happen normally, and this book that is supposed to be inspirational gives terrible messages about the means by which this man reached his goals. I commend him for getting his education, but there are multitudes of people who have turned their lives around in this country who came from atrocious childhoods, who chose not to ignore their many illegitimate children, sell drugs, curse out cops, judges, college counselors, and secretaries to achieve their goals. I'd rather read their books.

"Red Alert" is a red-hot readReview Date: 2008-04-15
Completely gripping, the story moves forward like a juggernaut to it's chilling yet believable ending. One of my favorite cold war novels.
For those of us who remember "duck and cover" exercises in elementary school, this is a must read.
Red Alert: The Basis for Dr. StrangeloveReview Date: 2007-12-06
The novel is much more serious and has the technical aspects of Kubrick's version such as the message scrambler CRM 114 and Russia's Doomsday Machine. This reprint, in spite of annoying misprints throughout the text still grips the reader in the tension of a nuclear holocaust. Definitely worth reading if you love the movie. Be aware that Kubrick changed all the characters' names into double entendres, there is no Dr. Stranglove in the novel, and the ending is quite different from the movie. A must read for "Strangelove" fans.

Good Story, Terrible PrintingReview Date: 2007-08-23
I myself am a terrible speller and usually read right over such mistakes, but these are so numerous and so obvious that I cringe thinking about all those I missed. They are a distraction to the story and show the poor quality of the editorial staff.
If you can find an earlier printing of this book, buy that copy. So far, it is worth the read, but not the frustration.
A great story well written. Must read.Review Date: 2007-03-05

Couldn't get into itReview Date: 2007-11-26
For me the book was overly intellectual, there was not enough action or emotion. The story is so dry at times it's almost textbook like. Attention to detail is taken to the extreme, and often does nothing to further the plot lines or character development.
I only read the first 120 pages, and I couldn't take it anymore and gave up. Several metaphysical concepts where introduced, such as lucid dreaming, and visions, and channeling, but I did not find the insights from these activities particularly enlightening in the book.
The book is almost 500 pages, so maybe it gets better as it goes along. Unfortunatly I'm just not interested enough to find out.

The Second Coming of the Star GodsReview Date: 2004-03-18
What an enjoyable read!Review Date: 2004-03-15
Second Coming of the Star Gods will hold the attention of many different kinds of readers. For some, it will be a rousing, Egyptian-themed sci/fi adventure book in the traditions of Zelazny or Leiber, where the "gods" commune with humans, imparting advanced knowledge. Others will look at it as historical fiction - a magical version of Mary Stewart or Taylor Caldwell or even Joan Grant, where daily life in Ancient Egypt really comes alive. Those who enjoy political intrigue will find the sibling rivalry that turns Pharaoh's half-brother into a usurper to the throne reminiscent of the power struggles of Cain and Able or Joseph and his brothers. For readers who are more metaphysically inclined, this book is full of the ethical dilemmas of black vs. white magic, and serious information about how to work shamanically with various types of star energies.
I understand that this is Page Bryant's first work of fiction. If this is any indication of her storytelling abilities, I hope it's not her last!
