This book introduces the character of Emily, who has cerebral palsy and rides at a special riding center for the handicapped. The Saddle Club meets her while they volunteer and becomes friends. Emily wants to participate in the trail show at Pine Hollow, partly to show Veronica diAngelo that she's a real rider. She succeeds and shows that good riders and horses come in all packages.

THE SADDLE CLUB #52: RIDING CLASS

WRITTEN BY: Bonnie Bryant
COVER ART BY: Paul Casale
PUBLISHED: 1996
PUBLISHED BY: Skylark
PAGES: 130
PRICE: ...
EXTRAS: A summary for The Saddle Club #53: Horse Sitters.

SUMMARY:
Emily has cerebral palsy, but she and her specially trained horse get around just fine. The Saddle Club girls make friends with Emily and even take her on her first trail ride.
Unfortunately, Emily's wonderful outing at Pine Hollow Stables is marred by someone who doesn't think disabled people belong there. Veronica diAngelo is the most unbearable snob ever! The Saddle Club and Emily cook up a plan to show Veronica what real riding class is.

COVER ART REVIEW:
It's nice looking but it just look funny. Plus, it's not a scene from the book, which brings it down a bit.
OVERALL: YELLOW.

BOOK REVIEW:
This book is perfect. It introduces a wonderful, human character named Emily. Hopefully, we'll see more of her and maybe she'll join the Saddle Club too. We also have Lisa actually thinking about something and someone other then herself. We have Veronica acting like herself and Carole and Stevie both show though wonderfully.
OVERALL: CHAMPION. This is a wonderful book on a topic that no other Saddle Club or horse book has hit upon. Theres to hoping that we'll see more of Emily.

This was one of Bryant's finest! Emily, a girl with cerebral palsy, is an awesome new character! And she doesn't fade away, like some! In fact, she's included a lot in the later series, Pine Hollow! It really makes you think twice about people with physical disabilities! Emily has a lot of heart, and so does her horse, P.C. THat's another thing I like; P.C. always stands for soemthing different! This is a great book for any die hard fan, or anybody who likes horses! The Saddle Club rocks!

I really enjoyed this book about a young girl who refused to let her disability keep her from wanting to try new experiences, and I think that it was great that the saddle club wanted to help her achieve what her heart desired and it didn't hurt that they put a certain rich snob in her place, Look out Veronica or Emily will beat you every time! Great book I love all the saddle club series! I want more !

Ever wanted to become a US Army Ranger?
Well, this book will tell you what to expect if you join the ranks of recruits who hold the hope of becoming a Ranger.

This pictorial book will start where the first change occur when we sign up for duty in the armed forces; the haircut! From there it take the reader through the process of training a raw recruit from a civilian life to the life of - not only a soldier - but a US Army Ranger!

We will follow recrutis through the Ranger training, on the firing range, parachute training, patrolling at night, and not to mention the demanding physical opstacles that has to dealt with, if you want to make the pass as a US Army Ranger. The pictures take the reader close enough on the recruits so when you finish the book you can almost say: been there, done that...well almost!

The reader will get a good knowledge about how the life of a Ranger recruit is.

Read it before you sing up, if you do not want to be taken by surprise!

I thought this book was amazing, lots of pictures, and lots of information. Although there are downsides to the book. They only talked about being a ranger from an enlisted point of view and not of an officer, and there were some other things that i wanted to learn more about but couldn't because they didn't go into complete detail, however i understand, and still recommend this book to anyone interested in the military, and most definitely recommend it to those who want to become a ranger.

My sons will enter separate universities this Autumn. Each will enter as an Army ROTC cadet and--by plan at least--emerge four years later as a college graduate and a commissioned officer in the United States Army.

I don't fully understand what makes these strong-sensitive lads of mine yearn to enter the ranks of Americ'a warriors, particularly since their growing-up years were spent almost exclusively in Costa Rica and England. Yet knowing these two strapping third-culture kids the way I do, one or both is likely to end up in Ranger School.

I thought I'd better study up.

And what a way to begin my education! Russ Bryant's TO BE A US ARMY RANGER is not full of the agonized ethical self-doubts suffered by many of my peers. It takes the mission for granted and tells the story of how the Army's version of special operations trains an excellent soldier to be a Ranger.

Clearly, they know how to create an elite force with the highest level of skill and a devout adherence to the Ranger Creed (yes, it's called that).

I believe many families of Ranger candidates will find this book very useful in bridging the gap between what their sons experience as they earn the Ranger tab and what those of us on the outside can only begin to imagine.

I'm already proud of my two sons, who have overcome adversity, seized opportunity, and kept themselves in the game through twenty and eighteen years of life, respectively. Respect is not on the table. But when I see them in uniform for the first time, the heart will swell. And, if ever, I have a son who is a US Army Ranger, I'll remember this book and the first glimpse I had of a corps of warriors that--out there somewhere and in the mix of an ethically confused world, does unwanted tasks that by and large serve the cause of justice--keeps the Creed.

The picture quality in this book is excellent. The book also does an excellent job of keeping the pictures and information relevant and in good chronological order. Having gone through Basic and Airborne School down in Fort Benning it was great to look back and recognize so much of what was being covered. So you can be assured that these are pics of the actual places being talked about and not just replicas or places with a likeness. The book does not go into great depth on any single topic but does a great job of giving a brief synopsis of a vast majority of the events. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in reliving some experiences or in learning what can be expected from a trip to Fort Benning.

I think the book was great! It's about when the saddle club's going on the MTO (Mountain Trail Overnight) and this time Phil's coming along too! Stevie is really exited, but when Jo Novick comes and asks Stevie to help him with his horse, Phil sees and gets Jealous. So he goes and helps Betsy Cavangh, and Stevie is not really happy with him. Things go from bad, to worse when the MTO starts. I thought it was funny when Carole dreamed of swatting giant Mosquitoes and instead hit Stevie in real life instead! I recomend this book to peale who love horses!

This book was great. I like the part were they were galloping in the morning and Lisa thought that Phil or Stevie had gotten hurt when she didn't see them when they got to the top of the hill. I also like it when they were on the walk and Stevie almost fell! This book was so cool it was funny to I had my friends laughing the hole time we were riding our horses. It was kind of weried when Stevie and Phil were always on oppsite teams. This book was cool and even if your not a Stevie-fan this book talks about Lisa and how she has to do something for school and it talks about carole and how she has to help the younger riders. I liked this book and I know that if your a horse-fan you'll like it to.

It's been nearly 2 years since I read this book. But I remember that it was good! The thing I remember most about it, though, was on the M.T.O. (Mountain Trail Overnight), Carole had a funny dream about giant mosquitos, and she was trying to hit them. She ended up hitting Stevie in real life, instead of mosquitos in the dream! Overall, this is a great book and you should get it!

I have read this book at least twice and it is ok.this isn't the only time Stevie's been jealous over her boyfriend, Phil.In the book, Phil comes to MTO(Mountain Trail Overnight) and he meets Betsy. This spells trouble when Stevie gets mad. Teddy (Phil's horse) spooks and Stevie and Topside come to help.

Could Phil and Stevie be serious about breaking up?

Breaking down barriers is certainly something we need to do more of in the world, and we can all start with the barrier around our heart. Peppermint-Filled Pinatas provides us with the road map that will allow each of us to open our hearts to those that are different from us. Eric Bryant brilliantly shows us how by sharing his real-life experiences with those that are different. He makes it real, he makes it funny, and he makes it achievable. Imagine moving into a new neighborhood and making cookies for your neighbors. This book is hard to put down once you start it. So get a copy and start reading today. Bravo! Eric.

Discovering the uniqueness of those around you

Review Date: 2007-08-04
Most churches don't react well to diversity. The inclination is to turn inward and preserve what is familiar.

But is that the right way to react to those people that are different?

Not according to the author, a staff leader at Mosaic, an LA church known for its diversity. Using humor and personal stories, Eric re-introduces a better way, one that originated with a humble Carpenter over two thousand years ago.

People need to be seen as unique individuals, important in their own right. Love is the strongest apologetic there is, but has been lost in the plethora of programs and rules. Outdated ways that no longer work in this more diverse world.

But this new, yet not new, way is risky. Relationship building takes time. Stepping out of one's comfort zone is a frightening prospect for many. Pain can be the result when one's attempts at friendship are rejected. Most people are content to remain within the familiar, under the sometimes false assumption it is a safer place to be.

Eric speaks from experience. As a BWG (bald white guy) he's experienced rejection and criticism based on his looks and others' assumptions. But he hasn't allowed those experiences to make him bitter or cynical. Instead, he reacts with humor and grace, telling us of a better way to live and interact with those around us. This is a book that has a home on my keeper shelf.

Embrace Love, Love Your Neighbor

Eric Bryant did a wonderful job showing, explaining, and encouraging the reader to love those and our neighbors we tend to overlook on a daily basis. He even shows us how to show love to those we might even dislike. And how we are to befriend everyone so we can help them to discover and experience what a true relationship with God is all about.

Isn't this what Jesus did? Isn't this Jesus' call to all of us?

Eric used first-hand accounts throughout his life and in his leadership role at Mosaic in Los Angeles to help the reader to show love and grace and to understand how to build relationships with those who hold radically different beliefs from dispite what their race or religious background may be.

I highly recommend this book.

More than likely you will find yourself drawing parellels between the characters in the book and the characters you may have encountered in your career. To be sure, the plot develops quickly capturing the reader at the outset thus making this a great read for a cross country plane trip. The authors do a good job of mixing facts and historical events; if you are not careful you might think this is a non-fiction book (i.e. The Da Vinci Code Lite.

Anyone who has worked in a large corporation for a length of time will sympathize with, and perhaps identify with Gary, the main character, who is faced with choices that test his integrity. Gary is talented and ambitious, but going for the brass ring requires him to compromise his ethics beyond what he is willing to do. As Gary sinks deeper into the quagmire the reader has to stay tuned to find out how he deals with his excrutiating situation. Couldn't put the book down.

I first read this book, when I was about 10, 11 or 12. I was hooked on the Saddle Club at 9 and even now, at 15, still find myself returning to them occasionally. I have read 'Summer Horse' and 'Summer Rider' countless times, and still go back for more! I found Stevie's determination to save the camp, Carole's lesson in adapting to suit her horse and Lisa's dedication to her school work an inspiration (although this was not necessarily how it was intended). This is an exciting book and a most memorable one! I borrowed my user name from it! I used to read the books non-stop, and although I never read the entire series, I wanted more than anything to be a part of the Saddle Club - I still do really. Hehe. Anyway - READ THIS BOOK!!!!

What a great book. The message is very good for kids and adults- to be principle-centered! Freckles the puppy gets lost and then takes up company with some wild and mean dogs. Freckles hangs out with them and has a sense of belonging to the group until he realizes the mean and unjust things the dogs are doing to the other forest animals. He then must choose between remaining with the wild dog "family" (thereby ignoring his conscience) or take a stand for just principles, risking being cast out of the pack to be alone in the woods again. Freckles ends up listening to his conscience and doing the right thing, but is cast out of the pack. Although he has been rejected by his own species for standing up for what is right, Freckles is embraced by the other forest animals and ends up with more friends than he could ever imagine.

The illustration by David Stanley is totally amazing. I can stare at the pictures all day. The old rusty pickup truck riding down the country road with all the puppies bouncing in it is a rich and dynamic scene. When I stare at it, as when I stare at the other frames, I feel more like I am watching an IMAX movie than simply looking at a 2-dimensional page. The expressions and personalities of all the characters in the book are magnificently represented with clarity and color. It is a visual feast. I enjoy reading it to my two-year-old daughter but find myself lost in staring at each page far too long to keep her attention.

Although at 14 months he doesn't understand the lessons (and there are numerous lessons to be learned), he really enjoys the illustrations and trying to pick out the different Wild Dog characters. We both enjoy trying to make the sounds associated with all the different characters. The author hints at subsequent stories, and we are anxiously awaiting Freckles' future adventures.

My two-year-old son LOVES Freckles. The illustrations are truly awesome from front to back (especially the picture of Freckles being startled by the howling dogs), and the message is wonderful without being preachy. We have great fun doing all the voices of the Big Wild Dogs and the Owl. It's quite an achievement to create a children's book that is as enjoyable for me as it is for my child! I would recommend this book to anyone with any form of respiratory illness or wishes to understand the deeper workings of the lungs

A couple of us got this for our first clinic rotations in RT school, our clinic instructors and floor RTs we worked with all had them by the end of our semester at one hospital. It's the best out there. The "Oakes" pocket guides where required for clinics at the time, the PDQ has since replaced it. The spiral gets hooked on scrub seams, I prefer the sturdiness to the sticky Oakes binder pages.

I absolutely LOVE this book. This thing is pocket size, and yet still FULL of information. I recommend this book to any student, or respiratory therapist! It will be a great help!

I love this book! I like how it is about horses and friendships. It is really great how this book is exciting and funny, from a cattle stampede to a snooty assistent trail boss to a bratty little eight year-old girl. This book along with its companion novel are truly fantastic!

The book was great!

This book was really good. I hope that Stevie,Carole, & Lisa get even with Gabriel and that little Eileen leaves Stevie alone. Keep writing, Ms. Bryant!

Wonderful !!!

The Saddlle Club is heading out for a wagon trail with Debrah. They all think it is to be fun. Then they discover all the work they have to do. Stevie has to wear a dress,Liasa has to walk a lazy cow, and Carole ends up giving mini riding lessons. Could the wagon trip not be as fun as they thought it would be?

The Saddle Club series rocks!

Hi! I'm a member of a club called the Stirrup Stars, a horse and riding lover's club. We really, really enjoyed this book along with it's sequal, QUARTER HORSE.

WAGON TRAIL/QUARTER HORSE: The three Saddle Club girls are enjoying their time out west, but they encounter a few problems: Stevie's worrying that Phil(her boyfriend) will forget about her while they're separated from each other, and she's competing with a boy who's also along for the wagon ride. Lisa has to take care of Veronica, a reluctant cow(no, NOT the snob at Pine Hollow), and even Carole's finding herself wary. Things spark up to be much more interesting for the girls, however, when a stampede threatens the wagoners and a dangerous animal runs loose at a rodeo!
