This book is a moving depiction of early 20th century America from a woman livng on the edge. Through poverty, world events, a dishonest occupation and a mental hospital she is a survivor. Always keeps you wondering if the story is fact or fiction. Either way, it's definitely a good read.

Hilter's plan to eliminate the mentally ill, too

CONFRONTING THE "GOOD DEATH": NAZI EUTHANASIA ON TRAIL, 1945-1953 narrows the focus to a campaign to eliminate the mentally ill which Hitler unleashed years before his famous final solution to annihilate European Jews. This campaign killed as many as 270,000 people and set a precedent for the mass murder of civilians, and Michael Bryant here analyzes the U.S. Government and West German judiciary's attempt to punish these killers after the war. Primary sources blends with in-depth research to outline the Nazi campaign against the mentally ill and the postwar search for justice: a recommended pick for college-level Holocaust collections.

For any type of professional interesting in the consulting field, this is a great place to start. Co-authored by three notable professionals with abundance of related education and experience, the knowledge flows from this book. While touching on the 'need to know areas', the authors do not dwell on any one area for too long, while providing a starting place for furthur research, if interested. TWO THUMBS UP.

Marvellous!!!!

This is a great book! I was rather surprised that no one had reviewed this book. Anyway, for anyone that wants a summary on this book, here it is: "Corey and her two best friends, May and Jasmine, were going to perform for this horse show to raise money for CARL. After the horse show, a certain group of riders is chosen to ride in a drill demonstration. Corey was one of them. However, in the first horse show, Corey's pony, Samurai acts up and behaves badly. Corey feels so mad at her pony that she promises herself that she'll never ride again. When she finds an orphan kid in the middle of the field, she brings it back home with her. I was really happy with the ending of the story. I would have given it more stars if I could. To any horse, Saddle Club (by the same author) or Pony Tails lover: Buy this book!!!

Reaching back centuries and moving forward to the present day, Bryant's text details the development of the Southwestern cultural scene in an immensely readable fashion. The enormous impact of women, both as contributors and as patrons, in the building of and continued growth of the arts throughout Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arizona and California, receives particular attention. An informative and highly enjoyable book!

I describe this book as a treasure. It is not easy to find practical, well written books that talk about how to raise our kids the best way possible. Every chapter has examples, stories about a specific value (compassion, commitment, justice, humor, honesty, integrity, loyalty, independence, patience, pride, etc). I strongly recommend it to parents, grandparents, preschool teachers and everyone who wants to give more to society. FYI:I am reading the spanish version.

A Hit in Our Home
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-19
My mother bought this book for my 5.5 year old daughter. She picked it simply because the cover featured a ballarina. When she got the book home, however, she was unsure about her choice because the book contained no pictures. Also, this would be her 1st chapter book.

My husband read one chapter per night to my daughter. She was hooked from the start. And so was I. The story is well paced and engaging. My child was drawn into Rose's story and truely worried about the trouble Rose and
Kieran got into. She was also fasinated to learn that boys took ballet, too.

We all enjoyed the book so much that we've ordered the other 6 in this series.

A different perspective on the 80's in the Castro
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1997-12-20
Dorothy Bryant gave me something to think about. Most of us living in the San Francisco area have heard both extreme sides of the debates over the gays in the Castro. Some have glorified the 80's as the coming out period; others have verbally attacked the gays as being the first signs of the end of the age. Dorothy's book focuses on this time in San Francisco with a mother and a son. The son is a gay man living in the Castro. The mother grew up in the 60s and was a radical herself growing up. The conversations between the two and the musings of the mother are another interesting picture in this maelstrom of a time and a place. I would recommend reading it - not for changing viewpoints as much as providing yet another viewpoint together with the ones existing in the media.
