Although the story of what Bryan went through is devastating, the book is a fantastic read. I found it very eye-opening and humbling, as many of us take our childhood and parents for granted. I could not put it down. I commend Bryan for the courage and inner strength he found to tell his story. I hope there are more books to come written by this talented author.

This is a very moving and thought provoking story. Bryan's delivery of his life story took a lot of effort and must have been emotionally draining on him as well. His story reveals what goes on behind closed doors, something I myself as a former 30 yr. veteran of the Jehovah's Witnesses (JW) was ignorant to because they keep everything secret. The sadest part of what this book reveals, is that the JW's elders are NOT qualified counselors and have no specialized training, yet they practice such and have contributed to the suffering of such innocent ones as Bryan and all in the name of their so called, Jehovah God who is actually the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society.

I read the book in 7 straight hours. You can't put it down.

Very well written. It shows how a life and family can be torn apart by a high control group. More of these types of books should be written, to show the world that this happens not just occassionally, but happens frequently. The world needs to know.

I could not put this book down! Jehovah Witnesses and non-Jehovah Witnessed could benefit from Bryan's heart breaking experience. We all take life, and being a parent for that matter, for granted sometimes. This book truely opens one's eyes to how easily we are manipulated by our social environment and how it molds us to the core...touching every cell of our being.
The lies and deception that Bryan experienced by being kidnapped from his own mother are devastating! The end results are heart-wrenching....

A Compelling Memoir

Bryan Lee McGlothin compelling memoir Have you seen my mother? is the heart-breaking story of one man's quest for love, truth and acceptance. The contrast between the behaviour of both of his parents is most telling. The father professes to be Christian but kidnaps young Bryan from the loving arms of his mother, slandering her in the eyes of the world but more important, in the heart and mind of her love-starved and vulnerable son. The mother, heartsick and desperate in her unsuccessful search for Bryan, flounders mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. While the father "progresses" in his faith and in life, the mother spirals toward tragic circumstances.

Bryan's father's narcissistic selfishness and cruelty are all too familiar to this writer, but the roots of such evil are complex, never easily explained.

McGlothin does a commendable job setting forth his story in his quest for truth. What he discovers will break your heart. It might also educate and humble you.

One of the many values of this book is that it provides an opportunity to enter into the experiences, feelings, and perceptions of persons with Alzheimer's on a deeply human level. This is a book grounded in respect and value for the person with dementia. It is also an affirmation of the gifts of love, compassion, and wisdom to be found in relationship with the family member or friend with dementia.

This excellent little book of stories (in its 2nd edition) is well worth reading.
They are first-hand accounts, written by family members and/or friends, of loved ones who have slowly found themselves forgetting, and/or becoming confused. Some of the tales are hilarious, others very moving.
All the essays and stories are well-written, and the editing is superb.

Very good reference on the variety of elementary schools (K-6) and the services that each can offer. Guidelines on which factors parents should consider in choosing a school for their children were also given. School administrators and teachers were also informed on how the parents will choose a school. School administrators and teachers were made to be aware of on how to meet the parents' expectations while conforming to the educational goals and standards. A more sociable approach for schools.

There are few things more important than picking the right school for your child and this book will show you how to do it and feel very confident about your decision. We used this book when we were deciding whether to switch from private to public schools for our kids. We used many of the toolkits/checklists which made the process much easier. We have made the switch and our children have never been happier. Thank you for writing such an important book.

If parents were asking these questions consistently, there is no doubt that the quality of education in America would be significantly better. The Picky Parent Guide provides an excellent framework to think about what educational choice really means, and the tools to put these ideas into action. The concepts are easy, and logical. This is an indispensable book for parents to learn about what they can do to help pro-actively and constructively ensure the optimal learning environment for their childen. The book enlightens parents about the factors to consider, and that indeed, there are a lot more choices in elementary education than you might think. Parents' choices are not limited to the question of public vs. private vs. parochial. The Picky Parent Guide is a great primer on how each child can be encouraged and supported to get the best possible education. It's an easy read - VERY helpful, very common sense, very encouraging and very actionable information. Read before your kids are in school so you have a way to think about this subject, and then read it again as your kids approach school age so that you can put what you've learned into action.

Our first experience with Ant and Bee was in 1975 when my own grandmother bought Ant and Bee ABC for my daughter. It soon became a book that I read many times a day, in fact I have it memorized to this day. We have a favourite family story that we still laugh about today. My father came over to our house when our daughter was 18 months old. She sat in her grandfathers lap and of course wanted him to read her favourite book, "Ant and Bee ABC". As he began to read, our daughter suddenly took over and began saying the words to the book, word for word. My father jumped up and came running into the kitchen. "She can read!!" my father announced. "She is a genius!! We should put her on TV." We began to laugh so hard that we could barely speak. Our daughter had memorized this book word for word by the time she was 18 months old. You should have seen my father! It was a moment to remember forever. Thank you Ant and Bee books.

One of my favorite series of all time!

I can't sing the praises of Ant and Bee loud enough. I loved them as a young child in the mid 70's. Luckily, I held on to five of the books. (Ant and Bee and the ABC's, Ant and Bee and the Rainbow, Ant and Bee Go Shopping, Around the World with Ant and Bee, and Ant and Bee Tell Time) Unfortunately, seeing how much they are now worth (not that I'd sell), they were loved a little too much. My three year old daughter loves saying "Naughty Mommy" whenever we read a page with some "additional" artwork.
I can't quite put my finger on what makes these so magical, but the illustrations are a big part of it. I used to just stare at the pictures....the variety of ways Ant and Bee travel the world, the Shopping Center they shop at, the three-legged race at the zoo, their teacup home, etc. The stories were simple yet interesting. Repetitive but not irritating. Full of friendship and fun. And I must add, the image of Ant and Bee sitting on their make-believe rainbow as day turns to night is one of the sweetest children's book moments ever. Please publishers re-release these. They are a gold mine.

As a kindergarten teacher, and a fan of the Ant and Bee series from the time I was a little girl, I highly recommend these stories. I have vivid memories of my grandmother reading me the stories, and now my kindergartners love them as well. They are quite new to my students, but they love the characters, drawings, vivid imagery and repetition. They often "read" them during our free choice time. Of course, they now want me to add to my collection, so I'm working on it!

Wonderful to be able to find these classic books still

I could hardly believe that the Ant & Bee books were still available. A neighbour lent my two young children some of her's which her (now) adult children had as toddlers. My children have become obsessed with reading them on a daily basis. They have been wonderful for building my five year old's confidence with her solo reading. I urge the publishers to consider reprinting the whole series. Believe me there is a new generation of readers itching to get their fingers on the Ant & Bee books!

Fans of the film SUPERMAN RETURNS must have this film book: it covers all the concepts and developmental art which served as the movie's foundation, pairing over two hundred works of art - costumes, locations, sets - with interviews with the director, screenwriters, artists and costume designers involved. Sketches and color stills accompany reviews of the plot's progression and choices in production. THE ART OF SUPERMAN RETURNS packs in the color and the depth and is the perfect accompaniment to the movie.

Over all the Artists did a good job in recreating the Superman Univerise, the book supports there efforts! A must have for your (art of) Collection:)

This is a magnificent book. If you were swept away by the artistry of the movie "Superman Returns" like I was, this book is a MUST. Big photographs from the film, sketches, paintings, and storyboards galore abound in this excellent coffeetable edition.

Among my favorites are:
*A full page painting of Superman lying unconscious in a crater in Metropolis Park after falling from space
**An almost 2-page painting of Superman lifting New Krypton out of the ocean, complete with tidal waves and green Kryptonite-laced lightening
***Photos and details about the new Superman uniform - like that it is actually fit for a 9-year old boy, then stretches onto a 6-foot-three Brandon Routh so that there will be absolutely no wrinkles
****Great explanation about Superman's story-opening trip to Krypton and his starship, complete with awesome paintings and photos from deleted scenes
*****Insight about the art deco design of Metropolis - why we just can't take our eyes off of that COOL Daily Planet Building

Superman fans will be happily consumed by the book's artwork and text that will broaden their knowledge and scope of the film. It is a nice size, probably worth more than you'll pay for it, and will definitely become a collector's item! To be re-read often!

One of the best cross-promotional items I've seen based on the new Superman Returns film is "The Art of superman Returns" from Chronicle Books. This 160 page, hardcover book with dust jacket is simply breathtaking as it takes readers behind the cameras of the recent blockbuster film with hundreds of pieces of concept art, storyboards, models and miniatures, paintings, sketches, costumes and photography. It serves to show in vivid depth the amount of detail and planning that goes into making a big budget film like Superman Returns.

The Foreward by director Bryan Singer brings this home right off the bat as Singer is shown standing in the midst of a miniature version of Metropolis, surrounded by buildings taller than he as train tracks and weave all around him. It's a fascinating photo. Full color paintings show Superman's rescue of the stricken jet. Storyboards bring the rooftop standoff sequence to near life as the machine gun pours bullets at the Man of Steel to no avail.

Moving to Smallville, we see the Kent farm recreated in perfect miniature and you can't help but marvel at the skill of the model and miniature artists as no detail is too small for them to include in their work. Once painted, you'd be hard pressed to guess that you were looking at a model, and not a real farmhouse and barn.

One of my favorite parts of the book was a look at Krypton. The Krypton of this film, while similar to the earlier Superman films, is a bit darker and edgier. Superman's Fortress of Solitude gleams compared to earlier films where it was sort of a dull white.

Throughout the book, author Daniel Wallace provides even more detail about the creative process behind the various creations of settings, scenes, and costumes. Metropolis, with all its art-deco accents is truly a sight to behold. Wallace is aided by comments from the film's screenwriters, production and costume designers, not to mention Bryan Singer himself. This is one of those books designed for the avid fan or collector, or even those who might be interested in getting into film work themselves.

Depending on the clinician to whom one talks, between 50 and 85% of Western populations are workaholic, so "Chained to the Desk" should appeal to virtually every English-speaking Westerner. Few of us will, however, read it. This is a great tragedy because, if you suffer from an addiction to work, not only do you probably suffer from many other less "socially admirable" addictions that will undoubtedly be shortening your life and making it less enjoyable than necessary, you are probably also unwittingly spreading this very debilitating and serious disease and, moreover, will unwittingly be creating varying degrees of "hell" for your intimates. I know. I lost my family before I woke up to the family-and-life-threatening concomitants of this disease.

"Chained to the Desk" is extremely comprehensive, well-referenced, well organized, cogently argued, and replete with practical suggestions. Yet it suffers from a major flaw: it describes workaholics as "them" and leaves those of us who do not like to be described as "them" just as much "in the unknowing cold" as before. Nevertheless, if you can identify with Dr. Robinson's "them" without "turning off or away", studying this book will help you either escape or heal from workaholism. As for Dr. Robinson, well, since he was once himself severely addicted to work, he has another book to write for us in which I recommend his publisher insists that he substitute the words "we" and "us" for "they" and "them". Maybe then the Anglosphere will wake up to our gross, grievous, and ongoing failures to use technologies and techniques for the true and lasting benefit of both ourselves and our planet.

Eye Opener about Workaholism

"Chained to the Desk" is an excellent book for both the layperson and the clinician on workaholism. It provides an informative and clearly articulated discussion of the symptoms of workaholism, the possible causes, and how to fight it. The book's discussion of the addiction's impact on spouses and partners, children, friends, and work colleagues is particularly instructive. The author also provides a simple test for determining to what degree, if any, the reader suffers from workaholism. I highly recommend this book for the individual who is prone to taking her blackberry on vacation or is otherwise "chained to her desk" and for the those close to her who must suffer the consequences.

Begrudgingly I began to read this book at my wife's request, not expecting much - what a surprise I was in for. Chapter after chapter led to new revelations about my own work addition and how it impacts others. What the author presents is a way to overcome a sick work ethic and replace it with a new attitude that allows you to make your life rich and rewarding. Whether you are work-motivated by money or personal interests, this book is highly recommended for anyone who can't leave work in the office or believes that work is the most important part of their life.

This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I would recomend this book to ANY guitar player out there. While it may be a bit discouraging at first, this album has the MOST inspiring/impressive guitar work I have ever seen. This album and it's complexity will leave you speachless.

It's a good book but there are some mistakes in the tabs to the brigde to Erotomania, the notation is good. The songs have a good setup and the whole thing is worth five stars!!

This book is perhaps my favourite guitar tab book I own (out of the 25 or so I have). It is great for expanding on your technique, speed + accuracy, and left/right hand stretching/coordination. There are some very fast parts (one bar in "Lie" contains 4 semihemidemisemiquavers grouped together, which are 1/128th notes) which are difficult to master, but once you have perused through the book, it is extremely easy to play and seems to flow from your fingers like pure ecstasy. Awake is my favourite Dream Theater album, and is certainly a must have for any guitarist's collection. There are very few errors - I can only think of two offhand - the first being the bridge in Erotomania, where fret numbers where simply placed one string out in a few places, but this was easily noticeable if you've heard the song before. The second error was simply a bar line which was missed out in Caught In A Web, where the extra string (Caught In A Web is one of 3 songs on Awake which are 7-string songs - lucky I have one :) ) was drawn a little out of whack on one bar (only one bar, so who cares?). This book is a great addition to anyone's collection, so go and get it!!! (and a 7-string as well).

Meticulously transcribed songs but lots of typos.

The transcriptions in this book are first-rate but there are many typos in the tablature (notes on wrong strings or wrong fret numbers indicated). Position changes are sometimes not consistent - you'll find the same riff played in different positions, sometimes from one measure to the next. But overall the level of transcribing (subtle phrasing such as accents indicated, for example) makes up for the errors. Many of the keyboard parts are arranged for guitar, as well. The harmonic analysis also seems to be well-done, including harmony derived from keyboard and bass parts. With Petrucci's style you'll get plenty of practice with chromatic runs; use of a metronome is pretty much compulsory for this book to get things up to speed. I use this book a lot for picking exercises and working on speed. There are some 7-string parts, of course, so not having a 7-string can be a drawback, but there's plenty of 6-string material (I got a lot of use out of this book even before I broke down and bought a 7-string). A book this advanced could benefit from position markings and fingering suggestions in places, though. The ability to read music is also a plus for finding the tablature errors. With a lot of the riffs I've found it's useful to try them the way Petrucci phrased them, then do it the way I would play it. In the end I try not to get hung up on the subtle aspects of phrasing as we all interpret things differently, and of course Petrucci won't play it exactly the same each time either.

As for the 128th notes a previous reviewer was talking about, they are actually a typo (page 115, bar 1, beat 1). They should be 64th notes, otherwise beat 1 is incomplete. The tempo here is also pretty slow, and being able to play certain types of notes has no real meaning without an indication of tempo. Anyone can play 128th notes at m.m. = 1 (about 1 note every 2 seconds). I don't think that anyone who's actually practiced this material would say that it's easy. It takes a lot of work to not only get to this level but more importantly to maintain it. Let me put it this way: after playing for almost 20 years, getting a degree from Berklee, and becoming a full-time instructor - there are still pages in this book I'll probably never be able to play!
