This short book packs a maximum of information into a minimum of pages. Without wasted words, every aspect of Confederate ironclads is covered: design, construction, armor, armament, life on board, strategy, tactics, and actual combat actions. Nor is analysis lacking. The author contends that the casemate ironclad was the best design possible given the Confederate resources available, and after switching doctrine from one of expecting the ironclads to break the blockade to one of having them defend vital ports, they performed their function well. As is usual with Osprey, the book contains many diagrams, photographs, and color artwork, including a cutaway drawing of CSS Virginia. Information about the 22 ironclads actually comissioned is assembled in an appendix, but any put under construction are mentioned somewhere, including CSS Stonewall, a non-casemate ironclad built in France. The only misprint I noticed was in the appendix where CSS Huntsville is spelt "Husville". The book is suitable for those just starting to learn about Confederate ironclads, and old hands who want a quick reference available.

"The control of human retrovirus gene expression is a TOPIC OF CONSIDERABLE AND GROWING INTEREST IN THE BIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL RESEARCH COMMUNITY.

The frightening acquired immunodeficiency disease syndrome (AIDS) is caused by human retroviruses referred to as human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV).

The spectrum of cells infected by this virus and the manner in which these cells provide for the expression of resident HIV are issues that must be understood at the molecular level if directed, potent, therapeutic intervention into the AIDS cascade is to be a reality....."

Kids will love it!

Are you a kid? Do your parents ask you to help out around the house? Now you can! With this book, you'll be able to help out once and guarantee that they won't ask for your assistance again for a long time! The next time mom asks you to help her with dinner, why not make big bowls of Bloody Nose Soup for the whole family? Grandma's birthday is coming up! Do you knnow what to get her? Why not make her a pair of dangling digit earrings? These crafts and more can be found in Creepy Crafts. Every kid needs to do crafts, and the ones in this book are perfect for Halloween, or any other day your kids seem to be little monsters! If you're not a kid, you should know that I used to work at a daycare, and I have seen a lot of craft books that just didn't interest kids. The crafts in this book might seem gross to adults, but to kids they're fun to read, fun to make, and fun to play with after they're made. I'd highly recommend this book, even if my brother wasn't the illustrator! (Plane fare from California to Ohio is pretty expensive, and my mom would really like to see him more than once every 18 months, so if you won't buy it because it's a good book, why not buy it to bring a family closer together?) ;)

Unbelievable-but it is history and it's true!

This is the type of history that you won't read in history books and as a layman in military history, I have to say I have been completely brought "about-face" to the realities of WWI--especially the British-Russian Armored car Squadron of the Royal Navy--this would be the "other" heroic story we didn't read about after "Lawrence of Arabia"--so it should be "Oliver of Russia". There should be a sequel with the "rest of the story".

amazing path for following God's word
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-07
This book is the most amazing prayer book I have ever used. It works really well for either a group or individual. Each day has a psalm, bible reading, short reflection from the author, petitions, reading specific prayer, and a prompt for the Our Father. As a group, we found that it always raised tons of questions for us so we had one person read each part and our group discussed the reading, reflection, and/or psalm after the reflection. The book is organized so that it builds on itself, for instance repeating the same psalm for many days in a row to build an understanding and familiarity with it, while incorporating in bible readings of a similar vein. The daily prayer is short enough to have finished in 15 minutes but some days we spent 2 hours reflecting, discussing, and pressing the related issues of our life. The book also works well on your own as I found when separate fromk the group. I highly recommend using it in the mornings before starting the day to keep God the focus. It is intended for Catholics but we had a non-Catholic Christian in our prayer group for whom it worked just as well. I am so grateful for this providential prayer book which provides an amazing path for living God's word.

Ashley Bryan read this story to my second grade class at a school assembly. It was a wonderful story then and it has only gotten better over the years. I have shared this book with many young children during read-a-thons and at bedtime whenever I babysit. The story is fun to read for adults, younger kids will enjoy the short songs that make up the book, and everyone can appreciate the messege of revenge without cruelness.
