If you like photos by Tom Bianchi, then you'll definitely like Jeff Palmer's. Jeff's photos ranged from innocent moments to "hello, mister!". The best were those taken of two men together, embracing each other which just speaks volumes.

Overall, Jeff does a wonderful job and you will not be disappointed.

Wow!

"TEMPTATION is the long awaited second volume of Jeff's male nude images. It is an exceptional book that features 65 duotone pages of masculine and powerful imagery -- dramatic ... romantic ... erotic ... honest ... beautiful. This handsome hardbound 8 x 9 monograph is the perfect addition to every collection and makes a beautiful gift. This book continues what Jeff is known for -- classic images of men alone and men with men. It also introduces more erotic images that Jeff has been working with in the past few years." - description from jeffpalmer.com

Only partial nudity and few young models

The books contains 54 black and white images. Of those, 19 contain full frontal nudity.

The models are for the most part in their late twenties or older. Some are much older.

The images themselves are well done for the most part.

If you prefer young models and full frontal nudity then skip this book.

Passion, lust, oh..wow!!

"Jeff Palmer (the photographer, not the porn star) likes to put on a good show with his photos. There's always action of some sort whether it be a man moving towards another or water falling on a man. His men are muscle-bound, spectacular hunks--lots to show off. This B&W collection of starkly erotic photos printed on a heavy, low-gloss stock in a gorgeous, multi-tonal cover. While we can't show you the hard-core nature of this book here, trust us, there are some steamy images for you guys to enjoy--all in a stylish book--suitable for gift-giving.--Scott Cranin"--© zebraz

great photo collection, although not perfect

Review Date: 2008-02-21
What could be better than a collection of artistic photos of a pair of twinky hyperactive twenty-something twins? It hits pretty much every demographic the gay audience seems to look for in a photo collection. Morgan and Nash are adorable, fun-loving, and of the rail-thin hairless type that seems to be so sought after.

Overall, the photos are beautiful, and Roffman has done a superb job at creating an intriguing look into the world of these two boys. The composition of the exclusively black and white images is just incredible, and the boys seem extremely comfortable and natural in front of the camera. Of the hundred or so photos, about ten are full-frontal, but it should be mentioned there is no full frontal of the twins together. The guys are hard to tell apart, so maybe only one of them poses fully nude. While there is no sexual energy between the pair, there is an easy intimacy that is beautiful and endearing.

The collection reads a little like a really well-shot catalogue of vacation photos, and the twin's personalities really shine through - to the extent that they come off as both very loveable but also kind of annoying (as teenagers often are). Most shots are of the twins playing with one another - football on the lawn, snowboarding, goofing off on a lazy saturday afternoon, and the style and feel would do well in any Abercrombie catalogue. (Too bad they wear Old Navy!)

The photos give you a glimpse into the boys' lives, but I'm not sure their story comes across all that clearly. From the forward, they seem to have lived an intriguing and sometimes rough life. The photos present a picture of a somewhat pampered and happy existence. A few photos that were less idealized may have balanced out this disconnect.

Overall, for someone who likes skinny young men and finds the concept of twins intriguing, this is probably a safe purchase. If you find the cover art interesting, you will probably like the rest of the book.

This is a beautiful photo-book, capturing handsome twin brothers at play. Howard Roffman has an uncanny ability to show us the souls and personalities of his models, and he does this with Morgan and Nash, the twins of the title. They're beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. Fans of Howard Roffman, new and old, will enjoy this latest photo-book.

Hot and Charming.

If you like portraits of very good looking young men this is your book. It is a pleasure each time I look at it. Howard Roffman knows how to set up a shot that reveals the person below the surface. Thier bodies are not only nude but so is thier soul.

Superb!

"Roffman's gently probing photographs investigate the alternatively tender and rambunctious lives of early-20something brothers who are identical in look but disparate in character. It's typically Roffmanian that Texas Twins isn't a glossy magazine spread, but a photographic study. Even the satisfying number of full frontals seem more revealing of character than genitalia. In short, the boys are super, and Roffman's superb." - San Fransisco Bay Area Reporter, April 26, 2007

Anyone who collects books on erotic male nude photography will be disappointed in this volume, eighty percent of the photos are modle like shots with clothes on, or head shots. The twenty percent that are nude are quite beautiful but for the price I expected alot more. So I would say save your money for something better!

Excellent detailed history

Review Date: 2006-01-16
Very readable, fun, interesting history. It has a lot of good background, a lot of detail on political history of the Social Democrat party. Very insightful. If your interest is in the party as it led up to revolution, this is a great book to start with and the footnotes will help you find others to follow up with. It is 500 pages of the background of the party leaders, Lenin as central of course but with insight into the early party workings; it is not a private personal book about Lenin or a history of the Bolsheviks once in power, but for pre-power Bolshevism, its a great start.

First the Decembrists...
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-08-08
There are many more recent books on this subject but rereading this one was interesting for the way it properly places the beginning of the subject in the nineteenth century beginning with the mutiny of the Decembrists in the 1820's. The history of Russian Communism told in a void is misleading in some ways. The whole tragedy begins with the extreme reaction of the Russian system (before and)after the repression of the Decembrists and the poisoning of the faintest indications of emerging liberal culture. This forced the issue from the beginning and virtually manufactured the extreme explosion that finally came. All this also puts the Bolshevik era in direct descent from the era of the French Revolution and the period of the Restoration in the era of the abortive birth of the bourgeois culture. All of a piece. The rest follows.

Good biography of Lenin

Review Date: 2000-02-10
Anyone interested in a good biography of Lenin written from a non-Communist slant should pick this up. Its amazing that this book, written in the '60s, required no revisions upon being re-published in 1998.

This book is a critical look at the life and career of V.I. Lenin. It is not entirely one-sided, however, and the author generally does a good job of putting events in their proper perspective. Those considering buying the more well-known Lenin biography written by Dimitri Volkogonov would do well to read this instead. It is far superior in every respect.

Detailed history of Lenin and the Bolsheviks

Review Date: 2000-03-26
I read this book for a class to get an understanding of Lenin's influence on the Russian Revolution. This book is very detailed and not for someone who doesn't understand what the Bolsheviks were rebelling against. Little background is given on the Tsar's reign and the problems associated with autocratic rule. The story is never presented from the Tsar's side. What the reader does receive is a detailed account of Lenin's private and political life. Lenin was full of contradictions and paradoxes that were reflected in Communism. It was almost as though his influence was so powerful that the political culture reflected his egnimatic personality. In addition to being a fine intellectual biography of the man, Ulam's text details all the political movements that competed with Lenin in addition to highlighting the beginnings of the Stalin era.

Ulam writes well and is interesting to read. As a lay reader I found all the details sometimes overwhelming, and I had to do additional research to understand the issues that the Bolsheviks were responding to. As a non-scholar, I found this book readable and memorable.

A Good Reply To Christianity In Crisis

Christianity in Power refreshingly presents the Word of Faith controversy from another viewpoint. If one is going to read "Christianity in Crisis" or "A Different Gospel" they would do well to also purchase this book as well as "E.W. Kenyon: The True Story" for a fair analysis of Word of Faith. You can then listen to both sides of the issue.

So far many of the people who praise the works by Mr. Hanegraaf and Mr. McConnell have only had their exposure of this movement by reading those books and have judged the Word of Faith by them. They have never bothered to see the other side. Many others are colored by prejudice and bias and will never see the other side of this issue no matter how well it is presented.

Finally, some have been hurt by "extremists" in the Word of Faith and many of these have never studied the Bible for themselves. As soon as something does not work out for them they go on the attack. Mr. Hanegraaf and Mr. McConnell books provide them with ammunition for those attacks. However, if you truly want to "judge with righteous judgement" (John 7:24) then please examine ALL material related to this matter. This book is a good start.

Answers for the critics of the Faith Movement
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-09-14
I spoke with the author personally several years ago by phone about his book and the attacks on the faith message (as it is called). With honest, insightful tact, Mike Bruno sets the record straight and shows how Hanegraaff and others have distorted and twisted the messages of the faith teachers and have made them say things that don't even resemble the truth. The saddest thing that these critics do is to attack the men and their integrity instead of sticking with the issues of theology. This book keeps the debate limited to the issues and shows line by line what scripture actually teaches and what the faith teachers actually teach NOT what Hanegraaff and others have said they teach.

To echo another reviewer, do yourself a favor and get this book and the book E.W. Kenyon and His message of Faith: The True Story. Only after reading these two books will you have all of the facts in order to make a true analysis. If your mind is made up and you are a critic of the faith message then for God's sake DO NOT BUY THESE BOOKS as they will be very damaging to the party line!

An excellent counter to Hank Hannegraaf

I have challenged book stores who carry Mr. Hannegraaf's "Christianity in (sic) Crisis" to carry this book as well. Mr. Bruno writes with candor, humility, and compassion. His comments on the Book of Job are especially insightful. In an age in which the Biblical message of faith has been grossly maligned and misrepresented, this book is a real breath of fresh air. Highly recomended!

Beautifully photographed series of porn shots of extremely self-indulgent, self-absorbed people. The images and text convey the message that if you aren't a buffed gym rat with ample accoutrements, then don't bother trying to enter their world.
An essay published in Gay and Lesbian Review by the author/photographer conveyed the sense that the book was a much more important thing than it actually was, however.

The book offers a passionate and honest photographic look at sexual expression in raw form. The photography is honest and well done. Tom Bianchi offers his personal thoughts as he opens the doors of his life for us to observe. The photography is sexy without needless inhibitions. The images are bold while the text is philosophical. The book stands out which is typical of Bianchi's previous work.

Yet another book filled with black & white photos of very pretty - handsome seems inappropriate - young men. These are not traditional studio shots. Almost all are outdoor scenes of late teens/early twenties, mostly white boys looking bored. There is little frontal nudity, however, a few of photos are provacative. These photos appear to lack artistic pretension, instead they come across as very nice snapshots. These photos did not instill any sense of desire. Edginess was totally lacking in the consistant blandness of these photos. Although I enjoyed the book, I felt that it failed to meet the titled aspiration. I expected more.

It includes some of his 'Three' photosserie and some clair-obscur photographs of boys and man next door. All photographs in duotone print (black&white). Short afterword in English/French and German.
Really the price worth paying! If you leave it on a table, all your friends will certainly take a quick peek at them, whether they are gay or straight.

I feel cheesy saying this about a book with naked cartoon men, but I loved For the Boys. I think it is extremely fun. The art really is outstanding--very well done, colorful and sensual. While many of the men are without clothing, it doesn't have a real porn feel to it, which is nice. In some ways, it almost has an innocent flavor. I simply enjoy taking it out sometimes and reviewing the art again. Also, as an artist myself, I greatly appreciate what has been done in this book and it inspires me to do more of my own art. It is also just a silly, fun conversation starter (with the right group of friends). We have had several laughs while looking over this book. Obviously, if you are looking at this book online and reading a review, you don't need any warnings about the graphic nature (although, it is sensual--not sexual). I would only recommend this book to guys (or some girls, I guess) who simply enjoy different types of art and expression, as well for those who have a flare for imagination, fantasy, and have an original sense of innocence and humor.

Some serious talent!

Okay, I will say this right off the bat... I'm a HUGE Joe Phillips fan, and adore his work (especially the calendars), so its no real surprise that I was really pleased with my purchase of "For the Boys". I suppose the only thing that didn't make me really flip out over it was that the vast majority of the work was stuff that had been previously published, whether it was in the calendars, cover art for Xodus magazine or on his website. Having said that though, it was nice to see the calendar images away from their "calendar context", and to just enjoy the total beauty of the "Joe-niverse".

If you're a Joe fan, the book is well worth having... if you're a fan of those lush coffee table photo books, it might make a nice change from all that black and white photography. Joe fills his art with such beautiful colours as well as intricate detail, its hard NOT to fall in love with it.
