Bruno and Hardy get it done for the beginner

These days, if you aren't playing two over one (or at least some system other than Standard American), you aren't playing competitive bridge to your fullest ability. Bruno and Hardy make it easy to get engaged in this popular system. But you should still get at least a basic lesson at your local bridge club. With a lesson under your belt, you will better appreciate the system's nuances and this book will make more sense to you. Even without lessons, you can play competitive 2/1 after absorbing this book. Then you will want to get their next work, a more intermediate approach to the game. To me, 2/1 clicks and I caught the concept right away, and I have only a couple hundred masters points. Yet, I can compete with the Life Masters and do fairly well. (Now if I could only remember to draw all the trump!)

Great if one can get it

Un buon saggio storico e religioso
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-04-07

This book is incredibly touching - filled with drawings of the people of Sarawak, Malaysia by Bruno Manser and rich descriptions of the people and place as well as passages of traslated quotes from the Penan themselves. This rich book will have you dreaming of living in the rainforest like Manser did before he disappeared without a trace.

Long ago in my hippie days I lived in a log cabin in NewEngland. One day a bear came to feast on my bee hives. I moved them tothe porch, and that evening he came to visit my house. These events inspired my sister in law Ferida to write this book. You'll like it.

I couldn't put this book down once I started reading!

Bruno Gideon's story is an inspiring and personally honest autobiography of life's lessons learned and applied on the ever-winding journey to success. Bruno was not defeated by early adversity but he was shaped by it. Growing up as a young Jewish boy in Switzerland during the Nazi era he experienced both isolation and rejection. Despite a somewhat lonely childhood in an adversarial school setting, the "rebel" within gave him the power to persevere, overcome and eventually develop the self-confidence needed to succeed. He learned the value of hard work and how business and ethical practices cannot be divorced from one another.

What did I learn when I read his book? I learned about the power of forgiveness and the need for courage; how small beginnings can provide big life lessons; how a fighting spirit (the "rebel" inside) gives you the power to get through the hard spots in life and business and succeed. I learned that success is not static, that while life may change direction, the entrepreneur is not afraid to take new risks at any age; that variety and newness is good for the soul; how the same lessons learned in one situation will propel you to success in the next...the list goes on and on.

This is the "real" story of a "real" entrepreneur. Thank you, Bruno! Your book is a gift to the reader.

Review Date: 2008-04-30
Some people call it "luck" or "good fortune" when unexpectedly good things happen in their life. Bonnie Bruno through this excellent book, WHEN GOD STEPS IN helps readers get in touch with the God Factor in their lives and celebrate his active involvement in our lives.

Our lives are filled with daily challenges and we need that heavenly touch to lovingly mold us. Now through these fifty stories about different people, you can repeatedly see God's hand of grace and guidance in life. This book is a solid dose of encouragement and combines Bruno's beautiful photography with inspirational words.

I recommend reading one of these stories each day or purchasing the book for a friend who needs encouragement. You can gain from the experiences of others to increase the awareness of God's work in your life.

Another Reason Weimar Fell
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-03-18
This pamphlet dismisses most of the claims of people about the rise of the Nazis. Here he gets down to the nitty-gritty. Being that he actually served in Germany and Austria for 30 yrs., he knew something. Weimar was perceived as a legitimate government; the people wanted to get rid of the kaiser, efforts were made to install a legitimate democracy. The two main reasons that all of this failed were monetary inflation and land monopolies. Heilig's details are fascinating (using hither-to unknown statistics) as we watch wages absolutely plummet, despite the currency revaluations and deflations, prices for materials keep rising, and the Junkers (landed aristocracy) hold increasing power. Why? Because the land was all bought up. Speculators took advantage of the cramped condition and held onto land until big time building projects came through. They would then sell the land for 5 even 6 times its original value. With this came increased government corruption and a refusal to reform.
The economy finally tanked, leaving one third of the German workforce unemployed, ripe for the picking of Nazis and Reds. Land prices were astronomical so no one could be employed. The author links these facts back to Henry George's ideas about the monopoly of rent and the serious social implications it has. The government could have held down land prices and paid expenses by confiscating rent, but it did not. After reading books like Dying of Money, The Economics of Inflation, and When Money Dies along with this pamphlet, you will understand why the author says every country is a potential Weimar.
