Excellent Collection of Pulp Mystery Stories

A Mate for Murder is a collection of six 1940's pulp magazine mystery stories by Bruno Fischer. Although most folks today
have never heard of Fischer, he was one of the pioneers of hardboiled detective fiction. As such, this book is a real treat
for mystery lovers. One note of caution: The stories in this book reflect the prejudices of the times. Modern day audiences
are likely to find some of the elements in some of the stories offensive. That being the case, this book is an excellent
artifact of politically incorrect times gone by.

This book has a two overarching contrast and comparison in formation of Michelangelo's career as an architect.
First, author contrasts Michelangelo (M) to Leonardo da Vinci. This allows reader to understand that the major method and theme of M's art was very religious and theological in its nature. Unlike da Vinci's very scientific artifacts, the author portrays M's art as a very personal aspiration towards God. To corroborate the claim, the author, points out major aspects of M's poetry, painting, and sculpture. In poetry, placement of words and the syntactical relationship is emphasized to point out almost mystical and inductive nature of his artistic bent. In painting, using a Sistine Chapel's painting, the author pulls out the compressed perspective as an "illogical" element of M's art. In sculpture, his "not-finished" element is mentioned as his religiosity.
Second, the overarching comparison in the book is between Florence and Rome. By comparing the two, the author was able to identify the nature of patronage and their political strife. Both Medici and Pope had difficult times when M was alive. Florence was under the internal turmoil to kick out Medici and establish republic and Rome was under the attack from Reformation to abolish papacy and reinstitute Christianity. That in mind, the book, chronologically analyzes architectural works of M. Florentine works of New Sacristy and Lauretian Library and a Roman works of Capitoline and St. Peter's stand out in the book. The author painstakingly points out the concept and its actual execution to illustrate what kind of role M played as an artist during the major historical events.
The book is both extensive and intensive in its content. If a prospect reader is a design professional, there are plenty of striking design skills to hear about.

This issue was soooooo good! I enjoyed seeing the "Star Wars" story. I found an error on the item description on this page.
It says there is a story called "One dangerous Vacation!", but it is really called, "Double Danger"!! D'oh!

I just finished reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the information as well as the way in which
the information was presented. Not only for IT people but for anyone who is involved in business strategy. Yes, my husband
is one of the authors, which made me even more surprised that I could sit down and read the book as well as understand 80%
of it.

Mischiefs and Miseries is an engaging and informative look at the founding of the first permanent English settlement in North
America. It is a wonder that the colony survived! The book recounts the adventures, betrayals, and hardships of 1607--bringing
the conflicting agendas and egos to life as only a novel can. The nobility and savagery of both the English and the "Naturals"
are presented without judgement--refreshing, when "political correctness" is so often required of the past as well as the
present. The reader is left grappling with questions of justice, power, avarice, honesty, and the relentless flow of history.
And for all that, it's a fun read! K.K. Bruno is a talented writer who has done her homework.

This is a book along the lines of a Fabozzi text, where the editor - Bruno Dupire - at the behest of Risk Publications runs
through the best articles written by practicioners on a topic of extreme importance to model developers, MBS/CMO/ABS quants,
and other financial engineers who are interest in exploring numerical integration methods through simulation. I've read most
of the books out there on MCS and this one is one of the best. I particularly enjoy the practical analyses presented, the
benchmarking, the references, and the formulas. Well done.
