An Antichristian book that was once bannedReview Date: 2008-06-02
Finally translated into English after 160 yearsReview Date: 2003-01-24
Because Karl Lowith suggested that CHRISTIANITY EXPOSED (1843) might have been a model for Nietzsche's THE ANTICHRIST (1893), we may understand why there has been considerable hesitation to translate this book into English. I had to see this with my own eyes, and when I did, I realized that people greatly exaggerated the alleged radical nature of Bauer's writings.
This book is far milder than THE ANTICHRIST. In fact, Bruno Bauer here mainly reviews some writings from a theologian who lived in the 1700's, namely, Johann Edelmann. By modern standards this book should never have been banned, and there should have been no hestitation to translate it into English. It is well-written, thoughtful and scholarly.
The translators have done a fine job with this edition. It is easy to read, presented in contemporary English.
This is an academic book, hardcover, mainly for University libraries and scholars, yet it has inter-disciplinary interest, I think. Historians, philosophers, theologians, theorists and political scientists will all find something of interest in this, the first English edition of one of the most feared books of 1843.
Despite the fact that Bruno Bauer, the famous Young Hegelian, wrote dozens of books, this is only the third book of Bauer's translated into English. Thanks to this translating team, the English reader has a chance to see what all the fuss was about.

an excellent journalistic complement to the cold-war literature on the subjectReview Date: 2008-03-31
Sampson explains the economics, investigates the characters, and describes the environments they operate in. It is a true tour de force, as only the best journalists can accomplish.
However, the book is dated, as it was written in the latter part of the Cold War. With the US-Soviet rivalry, the dynamic was altogether different from today, when it was far more political to sell to your allies and potential clients. Now, it is pure economics on the selling side, while the buyers are more or less mercenary capitalist brutes.
Warmly recommended. But the interest is largely historical.

It turns out to be a nightmare for both her and Marvelli(especially Frankie) Frankie ends up getting kidnapped by a group of S&Mers and is subjected to some torture. Loretta has to use all her smarts and Attitude to save him.
Boy is this book a treat. Literally too. The reader will be introduced to a new way of eating a hot fudge sundae, demonstrated by the dominatrix Sunny, with the unwilling help of Marvelli(I CANNOT GIVE IT AWAY, read it yourself), and the reader will also discover the secret ingredient of Elmer Fudge whirl. Meanwhile, we root on Loretta as time winds down on Frankie's life span, and she struggles to rescue him.
This book is hilarious. It has a dizty blonde in it, an unusual dog named Dragon, a Finnish lesbian massage therapist, a man who leaks, and other weirdos. Plus, there is a sex club in which Loretta infiltrates, and of course her attitude gets her in trouble.
Don't miss it! I bought this in hardback. And it was worth EVERY darn penny!
