"We know Jesus Christ in so many ways. He's often, however, shrouded in the yellowed gauze of antiquity. By placing Christ in such a modern context, Tom Bruno opens a very modern passageway through which the example of Jesus seems not only a possible application for our lives, but a critical one." NEW YORK, This book was a great inspiration to me. It explains how Jesus lived his life and what His words mean for us and how we should live our lives. A chapter that really helped me was the one entitled "He taught Us not to Worry." Prior to reading this chapter, I would drive myself nuts worrying, I know now that worry is a lack of faith. After reading this book, I got the courage to update my resume and found a new job. As I read this book I felt God was speaking directly to me. Bruno helped me get out of my ruts and really enjoying life. I thank Bruno for helping get my life back and have a plan for my life. If you only read one book this year, this should be the one!

Jesus Ph.D. Psychologist is 21st Century book with new insights into the teachings on Jesus. The stories are interesting and helpful and can be applied to everyday life. the principles of Jesus are presented in a way that are clear and can be applied to our modern behavior patterns. Bruno crosses religious barriers to appeal to Christians as well as non-Christians. A book worth reading, and discussing with friends. A book that will stay with you even after you put it down.

I got a job for $24,000. Then I read the book. I quit the job and re-applied for it the correct way, as directed by this book. I got $32,000 from the very same company. Now, six months later I earn $38,000 with a written promise of $46,000 for this year. If this doesn't show that this book is good, then I don't know what will.

I found the book by Kate Wendleton of the "5 O'Clock Club" to have excellent recommendations for exploring my own interests, abilities, and talents and matching those with needs in the market place. A very down to earth, no nonsense book. Best $ I ever spent.

If you're casual about your career and personal fulfillment, this book is probably too much work for you. But when you are truly ready, this book is the most practical and thought-provoking exercise I've seen. Whether it be a promotion or a complete career change, this book takes nothing for granted. After the exercises which help you understand your own professional desires, it provides you the steps and resources to conduct an effective search. It teaches you how to organize a resume, get interviews, how to prepare for them, maximize them, get offers, negotiate them....and I'm brushing over details such as lessons on researching companies, using a job search library, networking.

I, too, was SHOCKED to find Gordon Korman's funniest books out of print. I loved his stories as a kid, especially the Bruno and Boots series, I Want To Go Home, and No Coins, Please. Unbeknownst to me, my mom gave all of my books away while I was at college. Now that I have children, I decided to again build my collection of Gordon Korman books so I could share these fantastic stories with them, only to find most of the classics are out of print. This is honestly a travesty. I have SO many wonderful memories reading this books and laughing until I cried. I have read these books over and over and never got tired of them. The stories are so witty and well written--the characters are fantastic! If you have grade school kids or young teens, they will LOVE this series! And to the publisher: PLEASE BRING BACK BRUNO AND BOOTS! I can't believe this series is out of print! Do a good turn for all of those kids out there who may grow up without Gordon Korman books and publish these again!

LET'S BRING THEM BACK!

I could not believe that most of Gordon Korman's books are out of print!

Is everyone so decadent that all they care about is garbage 7th grade bathroom entertainment like Simpsons?

I decided to finally purchase this book after getting it out of the library several times and was shocked that it was already out of print.

There is the usual hilarious slapstick comedy of the kids in the school for boys and the girls acress the street.

This time there is a movie going to be filmed at the school. The book is pretty predictable and fun to read....

...until Miss Scrimmage (the dippy headmistress of the girl's finishing school across the street from the boys school) goes ballistic and a trailer runs wild.

Although I have read the book several times, that part NEVER fails to get me laughing so hard that I end up in tears. Very few books can to do that to me- espeically over and over, but Gordon Korman books can.

The characters in the book are beautifully developed and by the end, you feel like you know them.

I would recommend that you read the previous books in the Bruno and Boots series from the beginning (starting with THIS CAN NOT BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL, BEWARE THE FISH, GO JUMP IN THE POOL, WAR WITH MR. WIZZLE, ZUCCHINI WARRIORS).

Then you will appreciate this book MACDONALD HALL GOES HOLLYWOOD even more.

A Gordon Korman book (especially BRUNO and BOOTS) every now and then is a perfect remedy for what ails you......IF you have a sense of humor, that is.

This kind of humor is sorely needed when you have a bad day or just when you need to sit back and have a really good laugh.

Great book!

I am a horticulturist and wanted a book to research a Provencal garden I wanted to design for a client. I was leary because there were many books and I was not sure which one would be good. I made a great pick. The pictures are great and provided me with lots of ideas. The author knows a lot about gardens and specifically design. I highly recommend to anyone that wants to creat a garden with high design and a great spiritual feel.

The French country garden has experienced a renaissance in recent years. Following Rousseau's stipulation to "please the eye" the reader will find this is accomplished by placing what Jones identifies as "Land Art," right at the heart of the garden and making it the focus. Around it, she strikes a personal balance between formality and gentle disorder.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic region of Provence, New Gardens in ProvenceV features 30 designs detailing the full extent and exciting diversity of the modern French country garden.

Hundreds of arresting photographs capture Provence's seductive allure that are sure to gain favor among Francophiles. St. Fiacre the patron saint of gardens would approve of this wonderful celebration of new interpretations of French gardens, old-fashioned techniques, and the rediscovering of obscure heirlooms.

This is a very lovely book with large beautiful photos. I had been looking for a book that captured the true essence of Provencal gardens. The narratives were very informative as well. Because these were "modern" gardens I felt that the look they presented was attainable for my own garden design. One negative is the book does not go into much detail about the actual plants used. There is some plant descriptions but not as much as I hoped. I was also looking forward to more photos of the garden on the front cover. Overall, the book is one of my favorites and will be a source of reference for my ongoing gardening projects!

I have heard a LOT of new comer questions in the last couple of weeks
and wanted to be sure and tell everyone of an awesome book I used when I
was first starting out, in fact I still use it to this day. It is called
the Paralegal's Litigation Handbook and it is written by Carol Bruno. I promise you, every item you can think of
about litigation is in that book, she has definitions, form templates,
ideas for making work production faster, step by step instructions on
what to do next and where to go for resources and answers, etcc. I could
probably write a book describing this book, but suffice it to say, it
has saved my behind more than I care to count. It sits on my desk like a
dictionary and I have been a paralegal for 9 years. I honestly don't know how my career would have turned out without this book, because I had this book I felt like I could tackle the world because every answer I needed was at my fingertips.

I really hope Carole writes a new edition for the up and comers in this industry, but if she doesn't I will keep referring everyone to this edition.

PS the books are reasonably priced also.

Another grand journey into Roffman's life and art

Review Date: 2004-04-28
This is another beautiful example of Roffman's exquisite photographic skill as well as his eye for beautiful young men. The book is divided into sections, each section is devoted to a particular young man, with a brief introduction about either how Roffman met him or how the shoot went. There is at least one boy that is repeated again later in the book, as Roffman did a second shoot with him. The cover photograph is a good indication of the quality of the work inside, it was all shot with natural light (from the looks of it), and the young men seem totally at ease, not only with the camera and their own nudity, but with their bodies in general and with Roffman. In parts the book feels a little like another of Roffman's work, "Friends and Lovers", although this work is devoted more to the boys on their own. Stunningly done.

This Book Keeps Me Grounded
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-09-07
When I get so engrossed in work that I lose all perspective (thinking that my co-workers are monsters for making one small little comment to me or threatening to quit because my boss's voice was just a tad condescending - or even worse, ignoring the world's problems and focusing on my own private macrocosm of misery), I force myself to pull this little book off of my shelf and read a chapter or two.

I usually pick a chapter or two randomly and read them - and as I sink into the content, it restores my perspective and helps to ground me back into the reality of what life is really all about. It's like God's little tool for thumping me on the head and saying, "Hey - take a break and get it together."

Soul Business is a book for everyone. The twelve faith-based entrepreneurial qualities should be examined in every human's life. The format of the book is reader-friendly and helps the reader to really reflect and search his/her soul no matter what type of work he/she does. I found it inspiring and thought-provoking with stories well-told to exemplify the qualities.

I discovered Michael Breyettes work a few years ago. He quickly has become one of my favorite American artists. What is it about Michaels work that is so great. One word. Realism. Michael's art speaks volumes. Whether it's a glance or a stare, a day at the beach, a memorable encounter or a fantasy, Breyettes work stirs many emotions within you. I should say that those emotions are always pleasurable. What also comes through Michael's art is the man himself. I have yet to meet him, but have had many online dealings with him. He is a very personable, easy going guy. He answers his own emails. His "realism" shines through.
Buy this book. You won't be disappointed.

This book is for anyone who has a weight problem. It really CAN solve these weight problems, and in a surprising way. This is not another diet book, but a book that helps all of us in looking at our weight in a new way.

The major point of the book: any weight problem is located between your ears. The book does not dismiss any (potential) health problems associated with high body weight, but gives a way to work with your weight that really works. Given that diets do not work in the long term, and that current research seems to indicate that there are biological reasons that diets cannot work, Barbara Altman Bruno shows a way to promote health while accepting the weight nature (and your history) has given you.

Strongly recommended.

I'm sending Volumes 1 and 2 of Secret Journals of Bible Time Kids for my niece. These books are really great for getting an idea of what it was like to live in biblical times. As I read Vol. 1: Abigail's Secret Journal, I could clearly picture the mixture of confusion and excitement the Israelites must have felt as they traveled from Egypt to the Promised Land. Vol. 2: Rachel's Secret Journal is a wonderful story set in biblical times when Solomon was building his temple. Rachel's father is a talented builder, her sister is a great seamstress, and Rachel learns to appreciate her talents as a gardener. She also learns to value friendship. My 12-year-old niece will love these books!

Review Date: 2004-08-24
In Volume 1 of her Secrets Journals of Bible Time Kids, Abigail's Secret Journal, author Bonnie Bruno has beautifully captured Bible history for children. Taking a wedge of time from the book of Exodus, readers are allowed an intimate look into the diary of twelve-year-old Abigail.

With the manner in which she relates unfolding events in Egypt during the time of Moses, Abigaily, as her grandmother fondly calls her, keeps readers fascinated and involved. With youthful sincerity, humor, and sometimes passion, Abigail commits her feelings and emotions to her journal while facing the many unknowns looming in her future.

In this well-written book, you are there, seeing through Abigail's eyes, God-events that liberated and shaped the nation of Israel. You are her age and see swarms of locusts pass above you, watch your father prepare your house to keep death away from your big brother, gasp with awe as a great sea splits apart before your eyes-and you walk between the waters-and that's just a beginning!

Bonnie Bruno does an excellent job of weaving the threads of Abigail's friendships, family, and growing faith throughout this outstanding book. Never allowing interest or excitement to wane, a delightful surprise awaits as Abigail writes some ending entries in her journal.

Following the story, the author doesn't leave Abigail's Secret Journal without touching on a vital life issue. She adds a "Spiritual Building Block" to enrich a child's faith-building experience. Parents and caregivers will appreciate the short, clear devotional that lifts the value of trust into the realm of a child's understanding.

I highly recommend this first-in-a-series book by author, Bonnie Bruno. It's a must-give gift/must-have book for pre-teens.
